little niche here but think about kisame and zabuza. same age, same village, most likely same graduating class. both swordsmen of the mist. even if they weren’t friends, they definitely knew each other. and then they both leave for roughly the same politically-motivated reasons - is it really so coincidental?

or did they know each other. were they allies or, dare i say it, friends. did they dream quietly of peace and freedom from corruption and terror?

after they each left, did they keep tabs on the other? how did zabuza react to kisame joining the akatsuki, and what did kisame do when he learned zabuza was doing mercenary jobs for men of the same calibre as the esteemed and despotic fourth mizukage? did they ever cross paths? if they did, did they ignore each other? did their little teenage companions make fleeting eye contact before walking on?

where was kisame when he learned zabuza died? was it an akatsuki hideout, in a meeting exchanging information? was it walking with itachi and coming across two unnamed graves, a familiar sword stuck in the earth behind the bigger cross? was it in some out of the way shop or restaurant or bar, overhearing from a few other patrons? did he mourn? did he let himself mourn??
