IRAN LAUNCHES MASSIVE DRONE BARRAGE AGAINST SAUDI ARABIA
31/06/2024
(WASHINGTON, Fox News) Iran on Sunday launched a massive drone barrage against Riyadh, fulfilling its promises for retaliation after the 27/06 air strikes. The Saudi Defence Minister stated that 18 ‘Delta Wave’ unmanned air vehicles (UAVs) and seven Quds-1 cruise missiles have been fired from the north. Whilst the Saudi missile defense system intercepted a large number of the missiles fired, falling debris still caused economic damage and fatal casualties on the civilian population.
Capitol Hill on Monday promised solidarity with Saudi Arabia, promising increased arms and economic aid for the Riyadh based government. It has also condemned Iran’s strikes, highlighting its failures for returning to constructive debate on denuclearization.
The Security Council’s lack of comment or action on the attacks has stood in stark contrast to its rapid condemnation and action following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The lack of calls for restraint from any countries has also been observed, heightening fears over a protracted and escalated conflict.  Without rapid and strong action, the ongoing conflict risks wider escalation, strengthening critics of the UNSC, who pointed out its inconsistency and ineffectiveness, mirroring its serious lack of action in the 1994 Rwandan Civil War and the 1992 Bosnian War.

SAUDI STRIKE ON IRAN CAUSES MASSIVE DAMAGES
27/06/2024
(TEHRAN, Islamic Republic News Agency) In the early hours of Thursday, a Saudi led coalition bombed the new Iranian Nuclear Enrichment Facility in the Natanz region. The air strikes elicited a strong response from the Tehran regime, who strongly condemned the use of force and breach of Iranian sovereignty, promising “rapid and immediate” retaliatory measures against the parties involved.
The strike caused massive damages, with a reported casualty of 102 workers who were present at the site. The IAEA has also released concerns of nuclear fallout, with the strike potentially leading to regional contamination.
Despite continuous debate, the Security Council has upheld its reputation as a council of circular debate and ineffectiveness. The Security Council is more concerned over deconstructing Iran’s nuclear program than the hostilities posed against Iran’s sovereignty and regional peace. With this development, Iranians should strongly reconsider its continous collaboration with foreign parties and explore other alternatives to strengthening its territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Moscow and Pyongyang strongly condemned the attack, regretting the use of force and lack of diplomacy in Riyadh’s decision. They offered support and solidarity with Tehran, calling on the UN Security Council to move beyond meaningless debate and empty calls to action.

TRUMP: “IRAN AND ‘SLEEPY JOE’ IS SCAMMING AMERICA”
25/06/2024
(New York Times, Washington) In a recent Make America Great Again rally, former President Trump promised to revoke any deal struck between Iran and the Biden Administration regarding a potential return to JCPOA . Trump lambasted his electoral opponent, President Biden ahead of November’s election, claiming that any deal struck between the 81 year president and Tehran does not address America’s needs sufficiently - instructing Republican allies on Capitol Hill to block the passage of a Bill ratifying any potential Treaty.
Whilst former President Trump has been encumbered with legal troubles recently, a Gallup poll produced recently gave Mr. Trump favorable chances of a second term. A return to a Trump Administration might mark a distinct shift in US foreign policy, threatening to torpedo discussions in the United Nations Security Council surrounding a potential return to JCPOA-era terms. Without concrete independent enforcement mechanisms, critics of the UNSC’s discussions have cast serious doubts about the negotiation’s effectiveness and relevance.

LONDON WARNS OF IMPENDING REGIONAL ESCALATION
07/06/2024
(HM Government, London) M16 released a report uncovering reports of a military buildup in the region following increased Iranian nuclear activity in the past month. A Saudi led coalition of Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Egypt has increased aerial joint-training operations recently, further heightening the possibility of escalation in a volatile region. “This means nothing” claims Iranian Foreign Minister in response to a Reuter reporter’s questions highlighting Iran’s heightened nuclear activity in the region. Tehran publicly promised retaliation should a strike mirroring Operation Cobra in 1981 be carried out, whilst still claiming peaceful intent with regard to its nuclear activities. At the same time however, a followup IAEA report released in 30/05/2024 displayed heightened nuclear enrichment activity, with a recent discovery of trace HEU material in the facility.

IAEA REPORTED NEW IRANIAN NUCLEAR POWER ENRICHMENT FACILITY
24/05/2024
(Reuters, Tehran) The International Atomic Energy Agency reported on Friday the completion of Iran’s new nuclear enrichment facility. Whilst Tehran claimed that the facility will only be used for civilian and research purposes, the Agency stated in the same report a serious lack of transparency in the facilities’s construction, and the lack of access granted towards Agency inspectors for verification purposes. Foreign offices in the Middle East released statements expressing regret at Iran’s lack of transparency and dissatisfaction with the IAEA’s capabilities to verify nuclear operations in a volatile region. Interviews with foreign policy experts elicited a stark warning, and concern that regional escalation may become a serious possibility should remediatory action not be taken. A repetition of 1981s may prove a reality, with the possibility of grievous escalations given the increased tension in current geopolitical standings.
