Rewriting the Treviso vs Minrathous Quest

Ok, so it's pretty clear that the fate of Treviso or Minrathous being reliant on Rook's presence didn't click with a good chunk of players.

Yes, it's the lyrium dagger that makes the difference in regards to what city makes it through alright. Yes, it was the fact that Rook chose to prioritize one city over the other that led to either Never or Lucanis having bitter feelings. The problem is, the way this was written didn't connect with players.

So how do we fix it?

I think the problem is sending a Veilguard team to both cities. Even with the explanations above, it weakens the importance of Rook's choice.

So let's create a reason why the Veilguard can't send a team to both, maybe one that reminds players that the Gods really want the lyrium dagger.

We know the Gods are trying to get control of the Crossroads. Maybe they have a partial victory. Rook comes back from Davrin's recruitment quest to find the Lighthouse under attack. The Gods have managed to send a small strike team to hack the eluvian network, break into the Lighthouse, kill Rook,and get the lyrium dagger. The Veilguard fights off the enemies, culminating in a big fight at the Lighthouse's eluvian.

After a boss fight, Rook and co find a note on the bodies revealing that oh no! The Gods are currently invading both Treviso and Minrathous too! The team starts discussing how they're going to handle this double threat, only for Bellara to reveal that the eluvian was damaged in the fight and is now malfunctioning. She can come up with a bandaid fix, but it will only allow her to attune the eluvian to one city. She'll need dedicated time to get the eluvian back to normal (and to prevent further hacking attempts).

Rook, as the de facto leader, has to choose, do they go to Treviso or Minrathous?

By forcing the team to focus their entire strength on one city, it emphasizes that Rook is prioritizing one faction/city/companion over the other. There's no getting out of the consequences of Rook's choice by pointing out that they sent a team of equal strength to the other city too.

I think this would solve most players' problems with this quest while still keeping the core parts of it the same. It's a good quest at it's heart, it could just be a little stronger, imo.

My canon Rook Grier and my personal/self-insert Rook Duna! I always start my first playthrough as a self insert before I start making my canons just so I can get the gist of the story first. I had fun with Mourn Watch but the Grey Warden just hits different everytime idk what was in that goblet they drank that gave them such pizzaz somewhat 🤭

Still working on their background and haven't finished the game but def would love to make more of em again soon!

She initially had the Hawke armor cause it still slays no matter which character wears it 😩

Nice try Bioware, but I know the state of Southern Thedas better than you do.

First off, it matters if the Hero of Ferelden is alive or not. When the First Warden recalled all wardens, our hero knew that was a bad call and refused, finally splitting off from Weisshaupt after years of mismanagement and taking scores of wardens with them. Their presence and leadership makes all the difference, rallying southern Thedas once more against the blight. If you have only an Orlesian Warden Commander in Amaranthine they’re less inspiring, but as long as you’ve done Awakening they are a boon nonetheless. There is someone to lead the fight against the darkspawn while other focus on the Venatori.

If you 100% completed Awakenings and also Soldier’s Peak, the Ferelden wardens have never been so prepared. They’re organized, they’re outfitted and they’ve been ready for this for years. Also, if you allied with the Architect then you have scores of strange research to give you an edge.

If Merrill completed her Eluvian then she moves south once again and joins the effort. She’s managed to cleanse the blight before and she’s ready to try it again. And her knowledge of the crossroads gives the south an edge on their movement and supply lines. If Hawke’s sibling is a Warden they accompanied her.

If the Inquisitor let Briala have power in any way, the Dales become the leaders in the war against the Venatori, forming a formidable alliance with Ferelden, Orzammar and the Marches, the likes of which have never been seen. And if you completed Jaws of Hakkon then their alliances with the Avvar and Chasind are stronger than ever.

Of course, if the Inquisitor kept the Wardens around after Here Lies the Abyss then their numbers are bolstered. It may cost Wiesshaupt later, but that’s Rooks problem. And if you completed the Descent, then the Inquisitor and Warden had a much better idea of what was coming and spent ten years getting ready.

They will not be broken.

They will weather this storm.

infinitely funny that solas is this powerful god that was worshipped for centuries albeit against his will and commanded spirits and legions of ancient elves in a rebellion

is the same solas who allowed himself to be bullied non stop by inquisition companions who had no idea what he was. imagine being revered for millennia and then suddenly sera is blowing raspberries anytime he speaks, varric’s calling him “chuckles” after his feared mantle of the dread wolf, being subjected to inappropriate spirit sex questions and the skyhold joke that he doesnt like tea, which he deliberately plays into purely for the sake of everyone’s amusement. he was completely content to be the butt of the joke.

Emmrich Volkarin - Dragon Age: The Veilguard

You know I'm never quite sure how this spells strike someone from outside Nevarra.

Thinking about how Ingellvar!Rook being in a relationship with Emmrich looks to the rest of the Mourn Watch.

One of the most high ranking and respected Mourn Watchers goes on sabbatical to apparently help save the world?? And he comes back with motherfucking Ingellvar??? Y'know, that crypt orphan Watcher who took one for the team so hard that they had to be sent out of the fucking country to keep the nobles from getting nasty???? And apparently they're back at it again with the taking one for the team schtick, because they're the one spearheading the saving the world thing????? And people call them Rook now??????

But amidst all that, the real kicker is that Volkarin and Ingellvar are obviously fucking. And possibly 10 seconds away from getting married. The amount of Not Giving A Shit What The Nobility Think coming off of Volkarin for this is staggering. The brass balls on that man. And what a comeback for Ingellvar. Left in big trouble, returned on the arm of The Hot Professor. No one is doing it like them.

I like to think that Myrna is proud of them both in different ways, Emmrich for letting himself make such a connection and Rook for choosing an excellent partner. Vorgoth is offering their wishes of ABUNDANT EXULTATION or some shit.

Meanwhile, the rest of the order is either losing their shit in various ways or just straight up confused. Either way, these two have got to be the talk of the Necropolis.
