Gingivitis – The Condition of Bleeding Gums Explained
Do your teeth bleed a little when you bite into something hard, or while brushing lately? These are the warning signs of gum disease, specifically called gingivitis. Gingivitis is swelling, redness and irritation of your gums due to poor oral hygiene. Treating gingivitis is essential at this stage as the disease may progress from the gums to infect the underlying bone, causing a more severe and complicated form of the disease called periodontitis.
What Causes Gingivitis?
Most commonly swollen gums occur after a period of neglected oral care. This poor hygiene promotes plaque build-up on teeth which irritates the surrounding gums to cause inflammation. Here is how Plaque is damaging your mouth:
Plaque formation: Plaque is an invisible bacterial film that sticks to your teeth after consumption of starchy or sweet food. This plaque needs regular removal as it re-forms quickly. Hence, the requirement for routinely brushing.
Tartar formation: Plaque, when not removed, hardens into tartar or calculus which in turn makes it difficult to remove plaque. It forms a protective shield for bacteria and promotes further plaque build-up, and thereby the vicious cycle goes on. This tartar cannot be removed by brushing and requires professional dental cleaning to be dislodged.
Gingival Irritation: the tartar and plaque irritates the gums and causes inflammation or swelling and redness. The longer these plaque and tartar remain stuck to your teeth and gum line the more inflammation will occur. Due to all this swelling and irritation, the gums become tender and bleed easily.
Treatment of Gingivitis
The mainstay of treatment is first controlling the infection and then preventing the build-up. This is achieved by:
Full mouth Cleaning and Polishing:
Your hygienist or dentist will employ special instruments called Ultrasonic scalers to remove the tartar build-up and deposits from your teeth. It is a pain-free procedure in which vibrations elicited by the scalar tips help to wash off the bacterial deposits and colonies. The tip is run on all the teeth, covering each surface to make them infection-free and healthy.
This is followed by a polishing procedure, whereby a high-standard polishing material is used to make the tooth surfaces smooth and hinder redeposition by bacterial agents.
This full mouth dental cleaning and polishing ensures a healthy environment for the oral structures, thereby promoting healing of the swollen gums.· Root Planing Procedure:
In this process, the rough portion of your tooth below the gum line is smoothed out to allow the gums to reattach firmly to the tooth.
· Medication:
Although no pill can cure gum disease, it might be used as an adjunct to make the therapy more effective:
· Antibiotic Microspheres or chips: These minute gel particles are placed between your gums and the tooth surface to release the medication slowly and provide an effective riddance from the bacteria.
· Antibiotic Gels: These are smeared onto the gums after a thorough cleaning to help control Infection
· Surgery:
If the infection is at a severe phase then the dental professional may recommend a surgical process to cover up those ' rolled-back ' gums and prevent bone loss.
· Antimicrobial Mouthwashes: These solutions are to be swished inside the mouth for a minute as a part of your routine oral care process.
· Proper Brushing and Flossing: Last but not the least, the dentist will guide you towards the appropriate technique for brushing to attain maximum output from that 2-minute process, followed by regular flossing to maintain that hygienic space.
The Long and Short of it
Bleeding gums present a common problem these days. This is due to our improper diet choices, and hurried and incomplete oral care measures. But a healthy, dazzling smile equals a healthy mouth. Thereby we must ensure to get that gum infection treated at its infancy stage to prevent complications such as bone or tooth loss. Modern-day oral hygiene therapies are exceptionally efficacious and devoid of any discomfort to provide you with an all-around healthy and safe oral cavity that ensures strong teeth for a lifetime.

Get Big Smile with E-Max Dental Crowns
Have you ever wondered if your front teeth could be more aligned, or less yellow or maybe not chipped? Perhaps you have considered capping your Root Canal Treated Tooth or covering up that gap due to an extraction? A Dental Professional will recommend you Dental Crowns as a one-stop solution to all these considerations.
A Dental Crown is a Prosthesis that covers your damaged/stained or weakened tooth, an Implant post or cover-up a gap due to a missing tooth, as a part of a dental bridge. These are tooth-shaped 'caps' that are customized according to each patient's size and requirements. But the metal-ceramic crowns trusted religiously by the dentists and patients alike, are a thing of the past due to their poor esthetic appearance and greater amount of tooth preparation required.
E-Max Crowns: The Latest Advancement
E-Max Crowns are the newest generation of all ceramic Dental Crowns that offer aesthetics, strength and durability that is unmatched in the realms of dentistry. These are milled exclusively from a single block of lithium disilicate ceramic that renders it very tough and durable. The crowns are known for their brilliant translucency and excellent strength. They are even more resistant to chipping then than their ceramic counterpart-Zirconia, giving them widespread popularity.
Upsides of the E-Max System
Lifelike Appearance: E-Max crowns are the closest match to your natural teeth. They are an ideal blend of translucency and durability that makes them the perfect restoration for anterior teeth and a visually appealing smile.
No Unsightly lines at your gums: Since E-Max crowns are devoid of any metallic components beneath the porcelain, they do not put an ugly greyish-undertone to your gum-line, offering a blemish-free smile.
Preservation of Tooth Structure: E-Max Crowns possess excellent fracture resistance and strength. Therefore, these are prepared in thinner and lighter sections than conventional ceramic-metal mix crowns. Thus, they ensure minimal removal of your tooth structure, providing you with better oral health.
No metallic Allergy Reaction: The absence of Metallic lining means high tissue compatibility and no metallic allergic reactions.
Versatile Use: The use of the E-Max system lies beyond Dental Crowns. Veneers, Onlays, or short-span bridges can also be fabricated from it.
Who should get E-Max Dental Crowns?
E-Max Crowns are undoubtedly the finest cosmetic solution for your dental problems. Go for them for the following problems:
Severely Discoloured Teeth: Those yellowish blotches or stains can now be covered up with E-Max crowns or veneers. They are all ceramic prosthesis that can be employed even when there is little room between your teeth.
Fractured or Chipped Tooth: Due to their superior aesthetics E-Max crowns are a popular choice for the treatment of chipped or broken tooth
Crooked Teeth: E-Max crowns can restore the shape or structure of malaligned teeth in the front tooth region due to their ability to simulate the appearance of a natural tooth
Root Canal Treated Teeth: If your teeth are Root Canal Treated, prevent those fragile structures with E-Max crowns
Missing Tooth: Teeth lost due to decay or trauma can also be replaced with an Implant-supported E-Max crown.
E-Max Crown Procedure
Due to the Integration of high-yielding technology with the CEREC System, dental crowns are now milled conveniently within the dental office, giving you your final prosthesis within a couple of hours in the same appointment:
Tooth Preparation: removing a thin layer of your tooth to shape and prepare it to receive the crown
A digital Impression is made with an Intra-oral camera
The measurements and details of shade or tooth colour are fed into a milling software
The E-Max crowns are then fitted onto your tooth with minor adjustments, if needed and then cemented onto it.
The Bottom-line
E-Max crowns are the most suitable option for anterior teeth restorations in the present age. They are tailored to match each patient's specific requirements and unique smile. The resultant E-Max crown would be durable and tough but will look exactly like your adjacent natural tooth.
