Starting with Ver.4.0.0, Splatfests in Splatoon 2 will be changed significantly. Two new modes, Normal and Pro, will replace the previous Solo and Team modes.
Tumblr media
In Normal mode, you can jump into a Splatfest Battle on your own or join up with one to three friends from the same Splatfest team. If you join a match as a group of two or three, random solo players will be matched up to make a group of four.
Tumblr media
In this mode, the amount you inked is added to any win bonus you get to determine your clout. If your team is on a win streak, the game will try and match you against teams with a similar streak.
Tumblr media
Moreover, when weapons, gear, or general styles of four players in your team meet certain conditions, a nickname and a matching bonus will be given to your team.
Tumblr media
Pro mode is for those who want to go solo and push themselves to the limit. In Pro mode, you’re judged on your Splatfest Power. Raise it high enough and you could make it into the Splatfest Top 100! In this mode, you increase your clout by beating the opposing team. You get more clout for beating teams with a higher Splatfest Power.
Tumblr media
In addition to the above, 10x Battles will be added in both divisions. These are rare matches that will occur if you are lucky, and if you win, your contribution points will be multiplied by 10! And believe or not, there is a rumor that super rare 100x Battles could also occur!
Tumblr media
If your friend wins a 10x Battle or if someone wins a 100x match, teams may appear on the big screen in Inkopolis Square. Also, if you’re in the lobby or during matchmaking, such information will pop up on your game screen like a news flash. Team nicknames are also shown in Regular mode, so you may want to try scoring a cool team name and winning these rare matches for bragging rights!
The final Splatfest results are decided based on three factors: votes, clout from Normal mode players, and clout from Pro mode players.
Even if your side loses the popularity contest, Normal and Pro mode victories can slowly but surely turn the tables! Of course, participants on the winning side will receive slightly more Super Sea Snails as a reward for their victory! Good luck!

nice play, but competitive is very different from ranked. and getting one quad is very different from consistently getting triples and quads against top teams. play what you want, i have no problem with that, but it *would* take a lot more to actually make it viable in competitive play.

This upcoming new stage is called the New Albacore Hotel, which will be added to the game through a future update. Battles take place poolside on the rooftop of a luxurious hotel, which lets Inklings enjoy a skyscraper view of the city while they compete.

so, following smash n splash this weekend, i’ve made the decision to quit, or least take an extended break from, competitive splatoon. there are a multitude of reasons, but i’ll explain the biggest ones.
first off, the end of sugar. i put a lot of work into sugar and we should’ve gone places, but everyone’s dedication kind of dropped off bit by bit until the team dissolved. i don’t want to start over with a new team, we put almost a year into sugar and it would take a long time to get back there. plus, i’m still sad about the end of sugar. i loved that team, and i don’t know if i truly want to be on any other team.
second, i’m frustrated a lot when i play now. i used to pride myself on being someone who didn’t tilt or get super salty, but that’s just not the case anymore. i was really salty this weekend, to the point of toxicity, and i’m just not happy about that at all. i need to take three giant steps back from the game until i can just have fun again.
third, animal crossing. e3 is in a week and everyone’s expecting an animal crossing switch announcement. i want to establish myself as an animal crossing streamer before a switch game is released (because everyone will be streaming it when it comes out), so i want to put more time into that. also, animal crossing is fun and i enjoy playing it and never get salty about any of it, so. definitely the opposite of splatoon for me right now.
so, it’s been a (mostly) fun two years of competitive splatoon, but this is the end. at least for now.

so, i was thinking. i haven’t gotten as far as i have in the competitive scene without the help of my coaches. i have (well, had, i guess) two: a personal coach and a team coach (most people don’t even have one). but that’s the thing, players and teams benefit from having coaches. competitive players (along the entire spectrum) are constantly complaining that we don’t support newer teams enough, it’s hard for them to move up. coaches are one way of helping them. (actually, two! because helping with their gameplay, and theoretically they’re an established player in the community so they know other players/teams and can help find appropriate scrim partners and tournaments.)
so. i’m not enough of a well-rounded player to coach an entire team. i can’t watch everyone and see specifically what the splatling’s doing wrong, or how to teach a tentatek to be more aggressive. i can’t! they’re just not weapons or roles that i’m very knowledgeable on. but you know what i am? and you know what weapon is not common in competitive because it’s hard to fit into a higher level team? octobrush.
so. uh. i’m not sure if i’ll be any good at this (i’ve never tried to be a coach/teacher at all before!) but if any struggling octobrush players out there are interested, i can try?

so, i left sugar! last night.
it wasn’t an easy decision to make. at all. it’s honestly something i’d been thinking of in some capacity for a while, but very much so recently. it’s hard, because i love that team and my teammates, but it just wasn’t working out. we kept running into the same problems, and putting band-aids on them instead of fixing them. but i honestly felt like we had the potential to be a really great team. an amazing team. not just skill-wise, but synergy as well. that’s so hard to get down and we had it. so, giving that up is a real blow.
(i left, but i have to acknowledge that me leaving the team as it is means that’s probably the end of sugar. litblu followed suit after me, and nobody else is active enough to keep the team going.)
so... i’m sad, even though i know it’s for the best for myself. it was still really hard to do, and i hope we remain friends and get to play together again in some capacity. i’m proud of what we accomplished, sad we didn’t get to do more, but that’s how it is i guess.
as for me personally, i’m going to take some time to myself. i’m putting myself out there as a sub/pickup, but i don’t expect much considering the weapon i play. quasar’s been talking recently about getting back together for fun, for tournaments if we don’t have any other commitments, so we’ll see if that goes anywhere. but mostly, i’m just looking forward to having time to chill for a bit. i haven’t really been a free agent since i got into competitive (there were a few weeks before kyki and i started sugar, but that’s it, and i was actively looking for/trying out for a team, so it wasn’t really a rest). i don’t know if it’ll last very long at all, but i’ll take all the time i need.
💜

Hey everyone, my very very good friends Vitamin Sea are playing in the top 8 of the Inkling Open today! If they win, they get to represent North America in the Splatoon championships at E3, so this is huge! Unfortunately I can't watch because I've got a work training all day, but I was hoping you could go cheer in my stead? Just tell them I sent you over! 😉
There's an official stream or two, but it would be really great if you could watch Lily's stream so they don't miss your support! 💜
