Dr. Chee Yew Wen is an Electrical and Computer Engineering Professor
Dr. Chee Yew Wen is an Electrical and Computer Engineering Professor in a leading college of the United States. He has received his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, M.S. and BSE in the same field. While growing up, Dr. Chee was always interested in architecture and performance specifications of storage devices. He wanted to know how a system’s specifications set the performance requirements for recording heads. He believes that learning is a never ending process and continues to research on various subjects even today.
Dr. Chee Yew Wen’s recent research was focused on the fabrication and characterization of materials and devices within the information storage systems such as tape drives, hard disk drives, etc. His areas of activity include the following-
Thin film FeCo alloys for high magnetization write poles
Field emission assisted magnetic probe recording
Very small aperture lasers for near field optical and heat assisted magnetic recording.
Nanostructured magnetic disk media using self-organized nanomasks
Magnetic pole dynamics in high speed write heads
Sputtered thin film media for tape using CoCrPt/SiO2 composite media
Cr-SrZrO3 materials for resistance switching applications
Dr. Chee Yew Wen has also participated in road mapping and workshops on magnetic disk technology, Optical disk technology, Probe storage technology, and Magnetic tape technology. Besides his professional work, Dr. Chee likes to involve himself in community service. He is also an advocate for animal rights and has been an active supporter of many animal welfare organizations. Some of these are:
World Animal Protection
The Humane Society of the United States
American Pet Association
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)
Animal Legal Defense Fund
