I told my students they're allowed to be creative and don't have to be factual when writing about themselves in German because I keep getting questions like "what if I don't have roommates or what if I don't have hobbies" and I'm like guys just make something up! Have fun! I won't fact check you!

So now I am grading homework where a student is claiming to be from North Korea and his hobby is tax fraud

#had a y11 french teacher who told me my work was 'boring' and 'too safe' and encouraged me to make shit up to use the new grammar and vocab #like 'it's more important to practise the new content than to tell me the truth. just make something up!' and im like ok thats fair. noted #this backfired when she had us write about how a painting of a street made us feel and i was like ok time to make up some bullshit then #WOW this painting takes me back to the time i was 4 and got lost in paris on a family holiday. the street looked EXACTLY like this one #this painting fills me with a DEEP SENSE OF FEAR (said purely as an excuse to use the new grammar point)#and then i immediately forgot about it and went on with my day until like 3 hours later she confronted me like #I WENT TO YOUR *DAD* [also her coworker] LIKE... Truck drivers in Michigan have for years smashed into an undersized bridge called The Big Penny. Normal warning signs have not deterred drivers from wedging dozens of trucks into its hungry maw.

So they put eyes and teeth on the bridge, in part as a further deterrent.
