it was somebody’s office. there was something to be said about private property, but as a rule, he generally favored private places. plus the painting hanging over the desk was an abdul mati klarwein. he wasn’t going to leave.

“ besides i’m waiting for mr. stewart. he told me                 he’d be back in fifteen. ”

thank god for name plates. plus the family photo on the desk was charming.

It was only Dorothy’s first time in the office–– she wasn’t typically allowed in for record label meetings, but every once in a while she was graced with permission to tag along and nurse a weak coffee in the waiting room. Surely, if Mr. Stewart was private enough to exclude her, it should be a lot harder for this stranger to waltz inside. Or maybe not. Maybe he was somebody important.

She sunk back into her chair, thumbing through the magazine in her lap idly.

“Yer a music guy too, then?”

Dorothy wasn’t usually a quitter. But now? Lips pursed, with her arms stubbornly folded over her chest and a large box of band tees at her feet, she had clearly given up. She hadn’t ever been tasked with hauling leftovers back into the van before, a job typically delegated to the brawniest of the bunch–– but it was the final leg of the tour, meaning the vast majority of their small crew had already dispersed, leaving only the band and a few stragglers— Dottie included.

She waved down the nearest person, with little regard for differentiating between concert-goer and crew-member. It was an “all hands on deck” kind of situation, after all. And besides, Bleed War had some pretty jacked fans.

“Hey—! Would’ya mind helpin’ me with this? Darn thing weighs a ton.”

It was simple moments like these that made Dorothy feel like the luckiest girl in the world. It was the gleam of a late summer sun peeking in through the gaps between her curtains, it was the way the rays illuminated the silhouette of the stirring body beside hers, and it was especially the way his voice, still husky with sleep, rang out to break the silence as soon as she was noticeably awake. “Good morning, sleeping beauty.”

It was still too soon for her to respond verbally. She wasn’t quite ready yet, hardly having shaken the cloudiness that lingered from her slumber. Instead, Dottie acknowledged him with a squinty-eyed grin and an open, extended hand–– it was his to hold until she properly came to.

“G’mornin’ bubba,” she had found her voice, although it came out like a quiet hum, her eyes finally fluttering open to their full beam to greet Sammy warmly.

ian can see the frustration and anger still resides in her. ian was done with it, he felt no ill will towards her. he felt no sadness either. if he was being honest, he could leave and never see her again and be fine with it. his sponsor told him to clean his side of the street and make apologizes and mean it. okay it didn’t help that he also found her attractive. which is why he waited for so long.

he met her with a sigh as well and stayed in the same position with his hands over his knees and stayed fixated on her. while he was listening to her, he looked down in shame, he sighed then looked back at her. ❝ you can keep the music –– im not here for that. i wanted to explain myself to you. i don’t want to leave a bad impression. ❞

The look of regret as Ian began was all Dot needed in order to ease the tension that had started to build up between her shoulder blades and knitted brows. There was nothing to be afraid of–– she was sure he was sorry, and that was enough for her to extend the benefit of the doubt. Or at the very least, a bit of her patience.

“Well, alright. I s’pose I can give you another shot.”
