REVIEW
Book: The Midnight Library by Matt Haig
Summary: When Nora Seed finds herself at the crossroads of life and death, she is given the option to make things right. Each book she opens shows a life in which she changed a decision she made—from the big to the small. With the help of her enigmatic librarian, Nora must answer the ultimate question before time runs out: can you live a life with no regrets?

Read: 12/22/2024
My thoughts:
I originally tried reading this online, but found that I couldn’t focus. After trying a second time some months later on paperback, I found that I quite literally could not put it down, and devoured it in about six hours.
I thought the characters were well developed (though the book was primarily centered around Nora) and that Haig did a fabulous job of setting up each scene. The book progressed quite nicely and the syntax was eloquent but understandable.
Thoroughly enjoyed both the ending and the overall moral of the story, and I will admit that I shed a few tears. Super powerful book and it was doubly so when I finished and didn’t see any acknowledgements or “Read the next book by this author..” or any advertisement, as I thought it made the story that much more powerful—as if we were meant to read it with no other distractions in mind so as to really sit and settle with the lessons.
Improvements:
Honestly, none that I can think of! I’m especially of the opinion that one should read a book in its entirety prior to forming any negative or evil opinions, but I honestly quite enjoyed this book. I also believe that this book can be read by individuals of any age, even though some people have thought of it as one marketed for YA audiences.
Favorite quote:
“Now go on, live, while you still have the chance” (Haig 2020, 266)
Genre: Fantasy/philosophical fiction
Read if you love: Rethinking the way you approach your life and reshaping your idea of how we’re meant to live.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Happy reading!!

Hello! Welcome to my personal reading blog, where I’ll write all of my thoughts on books I’ve read or am currently reading. I read just about any and everything, and love book recommendations. I tend to prefer books that are well thought out, have strong thematic ideas at their roots, or are nonfiction—but I’m certainly not strongly biased against anything.
I’m of the strong opinion that people should read a book before forming any concrete opinions on them as we are all separate people with separate ideas and opinions, so this is purely fun!
There isn’t much else to it, so I hope you’re able to find at least a little joy or inspiration from my own thoughts.
Happy reading!!
