The silence is violent.

Christian has never known what it felt like, wanting to be saved, until he finds himself in a vacant, lifeless flat, with no one to call, nowhere to go, nothing to do.

He dreams of him at night, Toto coming to find him, bursting into the bedroom, pulling him into his arms, holding him while Christian grieves. Spends hours fantasising over Toto finally picking up the phone. How they would both cry, apologise, forgive, how Christian would throw his suitcase in the boot of his car and make it home in under ten minutes, Toto waiting for him, open door and open arms.

Oscar doesn’t make it easy. He never does.

He’s tucked against Lando’s side, cheek pressed to Lando’s shoulder, legs tangled like he belongs there.

All quiet and warm and steady in a way Lando forgot people could be.

Lando shifts, tries to inch away subtly, just a bit of space. Enough to keep himself safe. Enough to tell himself this is still casual.

But fuck. Oscar hums sleepily and moves closer, like his body knows the truth even when Lando’s head won’t admit it.

It’s almost midnight when Oscar finally murmurs, “I should go, yeah? It’s a bit of a drive.”

Lando stares at the ceiling and says nothing for too long.

And then: “No, just… stay.”

"Osc? You ready to go?" "Just about," Oscar shouts back through the thin bathroom door. His hair is appropriately fluffed, a well-practiced wave sweeping across his forehead in the style he's perfected. He's rubbed in the light concealer creme that helps disguise the wrinkles growing at the corners of his eyes. And one last check in the mirror that there are no bits of broccoli stuck between his teeth. He takes a final deep breath and pats the weight in his back pocket for the millionth time to make sure it's still there. "You can do this," Oscar thinks to himself. "It doesn't have to be perfect. It just needs to be honest."

Oscar wakes up to find Lando standing over him. He thinks it's a dream at first, Lando looking down on him wearing a giant grey hoodie that Oscar wants to crawl inside along with him. "What're you doing down here?" Lando's voice is flat, his face neutral. Eyes trained on Oscar's but nothing behind them. "Wha—" Oscar's back pops as he sits up and it all comes flooding back. Lando's nose in his neck while he carried him to his room. Lando pulling him down onto the bed. Calling him pretty. Trying to— And then the yelling. Telling Oscar to fuck off. Venom in his voice that curdled in Oscar's veins. "You told me to leave." "Did I?" Lando asks. He doesn't sound surprised. "More or less."

The angst continues but the boys work some things out.

Next (and final!) chapter will be coming very very soon!!! 🧡

"second movement" - Chapter 7

"You skate differently out here," Lando says after a few silent minutes. Oscar didn't even notice that he'd stopped on the side to watch. "Oh yeah? How so?" "Hmm, you're a lot looser," Lando muses. "Happier." "Is it that obvious?" Oscar zips past Lando, not stopping the circular gliding pattern he's mindlessly running through. The sun is low enough in the sky that it casts an orange glow over the valley, making Lando's skin shine even more golden than usual. Like some gleaming statue watching Oscar with a soft angelic smile. "It's just us," Oscar says. "Much nicer than a crowded rink." On the next lap, Lando joins in, fitting seamlessly into a partner pattern Andrea had them learn when they were working on their "connection." "It's always just us," Lando says. "Even with a crowd watching, it's just us. Skating together. However we want."
