nye’s new cage came in :)

i put it together for the most part and it’s now drying from sealing it. i’m still waiting for the glass to come in, but that’s not a big deal since the caulk needs 2-7 days to dry (it’s not supposed to be that humid over the next couple of days, so fingers crossed for two days)

woops looks like i reblogged the last time from my personal. he still hasn't had a repeat of the event, so i'm assuming he hissed and i misinterpreted the sound. i'm still going to watch him closely, though~

is2g nye just sneezed? i’ve had him out for about an hour and i’m p sure he was asleep in my hand when suddenly his whole body contracted, he opened his mouth slightly, and let out a slight hissing noise (it all happened at once, not sequentially). i immediately listened to his breathing afterwards and couldn’t hear anything. i also waited five minutes and listened again and heard nothing, so i feel like it’s not a RI. do snakes ever sneeze when it’s not related to illness? while his enclosure has the correct humidity, my room is probably dry due to the heater being on. could that be affecting him since he’s been out for a bit?

thankfully there was no regurge (at least yet, but it's been over an hour since the event and seven days since he last ate)! i'm starting to think i might just still be in paranoid parent mode, as i had to take one of my rats to the vet yesterday and am still on hyper-alert from that.

it's very possible he just hissed at me for doing something i didn't realize i was doing (i had been messing with his head earlier to check for stuck shed, so he was already pretty fed up with me and i might’ve accidentally brushed it with a finger without noticing). so idk. i do tend to overreact to animal’s health issues, as i’m a worrier. so i’m kind of in a weird stage of duality rn because i’m kind of in panic mode but i also realize i normally assume the worst of nothing. for now i’m just going to monitor him, but he’s acted normal since. if it happens again, i’m just going to assume it’s an RI and schedule a vet appt ASAP. now that i’ve calmed down a bit, however, i’m more and more inclined to think it was him huffing at me.

it’s been seven days since he last ate, so i feel like that’s not it (he also just urated and defecated today, so i don’t think he’s blocked up or anything)? i kept him out another 20ish minutes after the event and he acted completely normal [while i was holding him, he was relatively still (which is normal for him); then i set him on my bed and he did his normal adventuring..he’s a surprisingly active bp when left to his own devices (outside of his enclosure...while in his space he’s the normal bp loaf) and always has been]. i should probably note that when it happened, his mouth didn’t open completely- maybe only a centimeter or two.

he has regurged once before, but it was when i upped his meal size and was feeding him once a week. my thoughts were he might not have had enough time to completely digest the previous week’s (which was the first meal that had been larger than previously)/his stomach wasn’t ready to stretch that far. i’ve switched him to eating every ten days and he hasn’t had any problems since.

i really appreciate your advice, though! i’m going to closely monitor him over the next couple of days (i have a four day weekend, so i can keep a closer eye than usual) and if it happens again i’ll schedule a vet visit.

#I'M SO WORRIED #i just got one of my animals on the road to healing i don't need another sick animal #but he doesn't sound sick at all and his humidity is perfect #like it's at 62% rn so i guess technically it's the tiniest bit too high #but like not enough to be causing an RI???!?!#and his temps are good too #hot spot is between 88 and 90 #and cooler side is between 80 and 82 #snake #ball python

little fabala put me through quite a scare today. thankfully the vet was able to squeeze us in and we got her some meds. hopefully she’ll feel better soon.

#it looks like she might've contracted mites as well as a small infection at the same time #she got a mite treatment and i have some antibiotics in case there is some sort of infection #jfc i always work myself up and convince myself it's worse than it is #so all day at work i was prepared for the vet to say she won't make it

nye finally shed, and it looks like he did so completely.

but the shed is in pieces. i’ve only had one shed with him that wasn’t 100% perfect and now this happens? his humidity was bumped up to 70% and he has had a humid hide for like 2 weeks (to my knowledge he never used it), so i’m just baffled as to why it didn’t come off in one piece.

#he also took forever to shed this time #like i thought he'd have shed while i was on vacation but he waited 2 weeks #i guess what's important is that it all came off #and without additional help from me #snake #he also pooped the BIGGEST poop ever #like omg man maybe just poop more regularly
