PART 3

Midnight's POV

(later...)

"Alrighty, Filia's safe, Carol's safe. Now I have to recover that stupid kite. Somehow..."

I was talking to myself while I was approaching the Phoenix Tree. A lightning struck the sky when I was near it. The wind blew with a high speed. The tree branches were moving în the wind's direction.

I made a few attempts to climb it for about a half an hour. No results. I tried another technique: I made a few steps back, then I ran towards the tree as fast as I could. I jumped on it. I mananged to grab a branch.

"Score!"

The branch cracked suddenly and I fell down. It wasn't a very high place from where I fell off. I would had some nasty bruises.

"Stupid bad luck..." I said, then I stood up.

I hate the moments when I have some luck, then the bad luck strikes me when I expect the less.

"Could have been worse..."

Suddenly I looked at the road. Far away I saw a dragon-like snake thing on the middle of the road. It seemed to be weak. Then I saw a black limo coming with speed.

"Aaand... Speaking of which..."

I ran towards the road without hesitating. My knees hurt because of my fall. I didn't care. All I cared about in that moment was that snake on the road.

"C'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon..."

The car was fast, and I was still far away from him. I pushed my muscles over their limit to reach him as soon as possible. In a few seconds I was near. The limo was too close.

"It's do or die..."

I jumped on the road. The limo almost hit me. I grabbed the snake right before the limo killed it. Because of my speed I tripped and I made a few rollovers. I was holding him tight trying not to hurt him.

I ended those rollovers two or three seconds later hitting my shoulder by the edge of the sidewalk.

It hurt like hell.

PART 2

Midnight's POV

(that day, a bit later...)

"Alright, we brought Carol home and the storm didn't came. Now I have to bring you home, Filia."

We left the juice trailer. Filia bought an apple juice. I didn't want one. Now we were on our way home.

"I can walk myself home, y'know..."

"With some Mafia guys behind ya? No thanks. They're kinda creepy, to be honest. So creepy that they make me wanna kick their butts! Including your uncle, Vitale."

Filia laughed.

"Yeah, you're right. Sometimes I wanna punch uncle Vitale in his face too."

"Besides, we're also neighbours."

"... Right. Almost forgot that."

"Heh...Hold on. Wait a sec..."

We were passing by a guitar store. We weren't far away from our homes. A black guitar with a dragon head that replaced its head caught my attention. It looked like a battle axe for me.

"Whoa!! Check it out, Filia!!" I said, then I approached the store. "Isn't that cool?! I could finally learn how to play the guitar. Also I could use that as a Living Weapon if it has Theonite inside."

"A Living what?"

"A Living Weapon. Never heard about those?"

Filia shook her head, then she drank a bit of juice.

"Just imagine: someone with a Living Weapon kicking the bad guys' butts, helping the Police, y'know... doing vigilante stuff! Like Robin Hood!!"

"Or like youself..." Filia said shrugging.

I thought about that for a moment.

"Not a bad idea tho. I imagine myself on the newspaper: Maria Heartmay, aka Midnight, kicker of Mafia butt, saved the day once more! The citizens will sleep well one more night, knowing that they're safe-!"

A thunder interrupted me. Filia startled.

"Venus, that was a nasty one!" she said.

"Yeah. Let's move."

If that storm wouldn't came, I would stare at that guitar all the day imagining myself doing vigilante stuff. But screw the weather, cause it screws up almost everything!

PART 1

Midnight's POV

(10 years earlier, Maplecrest)

"C'mon, M! Lauch that kite!" Filia shouted happily.

I didn't wait for her to tell me twice. I launched the kite into the sky. The wind speed was perfect so the kite remained into the air.

We, Filia, Carol and I, were in the Maplecrest Park, near our favorite tree. That tree had a story: it was once struck by a nasty lightning during a storm. It didn't want to die, so it grew up from what remained from it. I used to call it the Phoenix Tree because of that.

Carol was clapping her hands happily.

"Can I hold the rope, please?" Carol asked.

"Sure thing!" I said, then I gave her the rope.

Carol moved the rope gently. The kite moved in her rythm.

"Do a barrel roll, Carol!" I said. Filia laughed.

But Carol did a perfect barrel roll.

"Nice one, Carol! Let me try!" Filia said.

Carol gave her the rope. Filia moved it gently, then she tried a barrel roll. The wind speed grew up suddenly and the kite flew away.

"Uh oh..."

We ran after it for a minute or two. The kite landed in the Phoenix Tree.

"Ah, nuts..." I said. "It's too tall for me to climb it."

"I'm so sorry, M..."

"It's not yer fault, Filia. It's the wind's. And speaking of that..."

We saw some black clouds în the sky.

"Yeah... I have to be back home soon." Carol said.

"Don't worry, Carol, we'll bring ya home." I said.

"And what about the kite?" Filia asked. "I think that your aunt will be mad if she'll find out."

I thought about that for a few seconds, then I shrugged.

"Eh, screw it! I'll recover it one time. First, let's bring Carol home before the storm begins."

We knew Maplecrest pretty well, so we wouldn't had any problem if we walked Carol home. Carol lived a bit far from the Park, but Filia and I were living pretty close to it. Also she was my neighbour.

"M is right." Carol said. "We better leave, or we'll be... washed up."

"Did you just stole one of my jokes?!" I said.

"Maybe..." Carol shrugged.

Filia laughed, then we left the Park.

Well, I saw the Valentine's Day Prize Fight reward mail like two days ago. I got nothing good except for this beauty...

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY GUYS!

Yeah, I know I said that I will post a drawing with Midnight here - also happy birthday for her too - but I was too busy with my dad's present. Today was his birthday too so it took me long enough to make his present. And this weekend l wasn't home. I went in a trip with my family to celebrate my dad's birthday.

And please don't tell me "Happy Valentine's day too!". I don't have a Valentine or a boyfriend. And I don't want to. I always say that it's better to be single rather than cheated.
