Somebody does not have to be in active danger to be oppressed.
I hate how people act like certain transgender people are "priveleged".
eg. A closeted trans woman is not "priveleged." It is not a privelege to be trapped living a life that isn't yours. To be unable to be yourself for fear of harassment or bodily harm. It is not a privelege to have to sacrifice your life to keep breathing. It is incredibly traumatic.
This isn't just mentally damaging in that way, though. Transphobia will still hurt people, even if they are "safe". When my coworkers talk shit about trans people around me, but don't know I'm trans, it's not like it doesn't affect me. It's a looming threat to stay hidden, or else.
The fact trans people immediately lose whatever "privelege"/social standing they may have in your eyes the moment their identity is known is not a fucking privelege. The fact that safety is immediately lost is not a privelege.
This is like saying the gays who force themselves into heterosexual relationships and have kids are "priveleged". They aren't priveleged, they have a boot on their throat forcing them to conform. Yea, society deems them as "more acceptable." But society also thinks the only way we are acceptable is if we force ourselves into nonexistence or are all massacred.
A world in which queers are unable to safely be themselves is not one where queers are privileged.
At the worst of times rights-wise we are systemically killed and threatened into the closet, to hide our true selves. To either die or conform. But now, people have decided those who are struggling in that same way, unable to be themselves, are now somehow the "most priveleged" of the bunch. And I find it despicable.
Killing yourself to survive because you're a minority is oppression, and if you cannot recognize that then you need to stop only caring about your own view of the world. That's great that the life YOU lived made it okay for you to somewhat be out, and experience the different experiences with oppression there, but there are still people who if outed would be killed and their experiences don't become magically less important because they are not your own.

> sees complaints that a female character looks "too masculine" or "like an ugly lesbian"
> ask if we got an actual butch character or if shes just a normal looking woman that isnt wearing make up and a dress
> person is visibly confused, i start explaining the difference between actual butch presentation and dress and a woman simply dressing comfortably to avoid indecent exposure
> person laughs and says "she straight up looks like a guy, i can barely tell her apart from the actual men"
> google the character
> shes just a normal looking woman that isnt wearing make up and a dress

The bee movie is geniunely an interesting study of misogyny in storytelling no wait hear me out. Worker bees in reality are all female so the choice to make the main bees men is an interesting example of thw Default Protagonist being (bee-ing) a man. Of course the protagonist is a man, that's just how it is, we need him to be a man to get the female love interest. I wonder if they even considered it? Was there even a female background worker bee ever shown I don't remember I havent watxhed the bee movie since grade school
