A difference
When you work in this industry(hospitality) sometimes you get things confused. Sometimes you think the larger the tip, the larger the appreciation. However some people are just big tippers; either they have been in the industry themselves or know someone who has been in the industry either way they tip large amounts. Then there are people that never tip, hardly ever tip, or tip less than industry standard for various reasons(cheapskates). I say that to say I don't tend bar for the money, exclusively(yes I do please continue to tip me in legal U S currency, thank you). I tend bar because it's my passion. I don't want to tend bar forever. But while I'm doing what I love....I want to be appreciated. I want to be noticed for doing above what is expected of me in the role of bartending. It happened Saturday night when a customer pulled me to the side. What he said had me all in my feelings. I had to step back and look at what he said and why he said it (you may think I'm dim witted, or don't think before I answer but I analyze EVERY word in and out). While it wasn't a derogatory remark just an observation he made. It made me feel good that I make a difference in what I do as a bartender......

huh?
Although I have been bartending a while, I am just now realizing I do not ask enough question. Someone contacts me for an event and I ask just a few basic question, who and where. I'm learning through trial and error, bumps and bruises, trips and dips that that is not enough. I swear I don't want to interrogate anyone but it's becoming necessary to ask a few essential questions. To get more details; to make sure we are a good fit. The lumps and bumps of this new (year old) business.
