Something to remember:
I was reading聽Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale. I mentioned this to my friend Lauren, who said, "If you like that, you should really read A Thousand Splendid Suns." Which I did, and loved.
At an after-work gathering, my colleagues and I were talking about books. I told them I was reading Handmaid and Suns.
"I guess I've been on a disenfranchised-women literary kick lately," I said.
Instead of staring at me with the look some people get when they've realized they're speaking with a feminist, my colleagues said, "You should really read The Red Tent. You'll love it." And my boss went inside to get her personal copy to lend me.
(I did love it, by the way.)

We've been harvesting almost more mesclun mix and arugula than we can eat, but this was the first hearty harvest from our garden: a heavy, gorgeous zucchini. We combined it with broccoli rabe (also from our garden), onion, parsley, garlic, and sausage for a hot pasta salad.

Bronx Botanical Gardens, Father's Day 2012. Joe and I walked around with his parents for a few hours and then went to his parents' home for a cookout.

I had a particularly tough day the other week. Joe brought this home, and took me out for coffee and dessert.

Sometimes the cat leaves her tongue sticking out, just like this.
