Scorched Doves in Spring
Roseus skies, daffodils sleeping, we roll like thunder.
Down into the pond, you dance until you burn.
Until the fire engulfed us both, sheltered into flames-as if it’s july forever.
Winter bells still calling, frostbite kissing our skin.
Stare into the fog, we could almost spell it out
An alphabet of doubts
Can we face the pallid pit- a burial of scorched doves?
You are safe.
You are sound.
You hold crumbling lava in your bare hands.
Far from our ashed dust, we will hide
Soon, we will rupture, our lust the only warmth left.

POETRY NEVER DIES- TOP THREE BOOKS
Some people crave to connect to their inner solace through books, a common theme is poetry. Modern day poetry is accessible for anyone to make, a pencil and a purpose is all that is required to make something so powerful. Poetry nowadays can mean anything but here are poetry books that strike me with a certain rawness, book’s you can’t put down because they feel far too real.
#1. Crush By Richard Silken,
A book about love and all its twisted secrets. Crush - “Let's say you’ve swallowed a bad thing and now it’s got its hands inside you. This is the essence of love and failure.”
If you want a romance, well this isn’t it. If you want something that challenges your mind, to create a place where you relate back to all the injustices you’ve faced. This is it, a powerful literary piece, dancing between the line of gut wrenching and too realistic. Crush is a poetic rollercoaster that challenges your perspective on love.
#2. Night Sky with Exit Wounds by Ocean Vuong,
Ocean Vuong is a generational talent, mainly known for his book “On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous”, a heartbreaking story, carrying the weight of one's culture and accepting identity. His poetry collection takes a different route, along with identity he explores war and love. He points out all the roughness and hurt that makes up each one of us. Poetry is created for us to feel entirely. Night Sky with Exit Wounds is felt at the bottom of your heart, seeping down and settling in the quiet corner. It is a poetry book that leaves you aching, for something just like it. No other poetry book in this age compares to the feeling of melancholy and rawness.
#3. Devotions: The Selected Poems of Mary Oliver
This collection of poems explores nature and its connections to humans. Over 200 poems filled with spiritual stories, celebrating the beauty of nature. Mary Oliver’s writing is outstanding, the Pulitzer Prize-winning poet knows how to evoke a sense of reflection. When you put down the book, it shares a different view of the world. A view with new gratitude and respect for the nature surrounding us.
