Eczema Skincare Journey, part #2
Summer edition, going on a holiday with eczema
Alright! I noticed that a few people were reading my other post, so why not make a second one.
This summer (2023) I went to Egypt to stay relax for 2 weeks. In my other post you could read how I managed to get clear skin while dealing with eczema on a budget and for how long I have managed to not use steroids as a medication.
As you know I went for several weeks without steroid ointment for my eczema and with the cure (Korean skincare) in my suitcase I went on a holiday. I thought that my glass skin would remain and was protected enough to handle some issues in Egypt.
The first problem I faced was chlorine in the water in the bathroom and the shower. I washed my face and body with this water, because I had no choice.
Since I know salt disinfects eczema patches, but also really dries out your skin as well, I had to shower everyday in the chlorine shower. So this is what I did:
I went swimming in the Red Sea and after I dried up I used (perfume free ofcourse) sunscreen to hydrate the skin.
I showered and washed my hair everyday after staying at the beach.
I washed my face with mineral (drinking) water to wash off the chlorine.
I did the whole skincare routine.
I lotioned and oiled (perfume free) my body after showering and used After Sun (also perfume free) on my body and face (!) for extra hydration.
Results: I was very oily as you figured and was shining away. I had the ultimate glow after my skin absorbed everything. The flare ups were minimized.
After two weeks of being back home; I still don't have clear skin just yet. I believe it comes back a bit by bit everyday, so I'll be patience. I haven't used the steroid ointment for three weeks now.
I'll post another one about using too little or too much products in a couple of weeks and a post about my haircare journey. If you have any questions meanwhile, feel free to DM me (also for requested posts).

Eczema skincare journey
Since 2016 I have been struggling with Eczema on my face, body and skull. Basically everywhere you can think of. Whenever I first discovered weird patches of skin on my face I went to the doctor. The doctor gave me steroid ointment. I used it daily in the beginning. I used it as my skincare routine since I never had one.
Since 4 years I have been on a skincare journey. I started with The Body Shop. I thought that worked for my skin, but it didn't. A few products cleared up my face for a few days and came back worse. So I used more and more and more.
I realized, that this brand wasn't for me so I moved on to another brand; Lush. I thought I was there and tried out some products. Some products worked, some didn't. So I was back where I started. I asked for help and told them the product didn't work and if they had any other kind of product I could use. They did. I bought that one as well, but this didn't work as well. They asked me if I was allergic to anything.
Since I'm Asthmatic I have a lot of allergies. I have an allergy for perfume. So I told Lush, Lush suggested me products with natural perfume in it. I tried the products, but this didn't work either.
I went back to The Body Shop and told them I'm allergic to perfume and asked them what I could use. They gave me a few options and I tried them out. Some were the same products as before, but I thought if they advised me to buy them the problem would have been solved anyway. As you can guess, it didn't. I was done with skincare and e-mailed EVERY skincare brand or shop in The Netherlands I could think of.
As you can imagine, I e-mailed about 70 different brands and tried out a few, but there was something missing. With the skincare I currently used I noticed I had to use the steroid ointment once a week. I did some research and ended up with Nøie Skincare while using some other brands as well.
That was my mistake. Nøie is pretty expensive, but really good in its work. They customize it as long as you want and help you out really good. But I used other brands as well and my skin got bad frequently.
I did some research on my skin and not on brands anymore. I looked for skin conditions I could have and noticed a research saying eczema and asthma usually go together. I did my research for eczema and there we go. I got diagnosed with eczema and my allergy perfume made it worse. Also, I recently found out that Eczema skin doesn't work well with Alcohol in skincare products so I have been trying to reduce those products as well.
I searched for perfume free products and ended up doing research to certificates and labels for Asthma and allergy. I ended up with Neutral and started buying products in bulk (6 items for less than what the prices are in the shops).
It really works this time. Recently I got at 1,5 week of not using the ointment. But I was still missing something so I went off and on of doing research and 'accepting my skin as it is'. My research ended with Korean Skincare.
Korean Skincare has been a relieve for my skin, my wallet and for my mental. I have been using Korean Skincare for 2 months now and as I add up some products, the weeks of not using ointment adds up as well. Right now, I'm three weeks in and counting for not using the ointment.
I have been trying out a lot of skincare products and I add a product one by one to see how my skin reacts. If my skin reacts badly I give away the product to my boyfriend. I have been doing that for a year now and his skin is glowing as well!! And since he is with me, he is really interested in skincare and haircare.
I have never been so happy with skincare products. My skin is glowing from the inside and it has been so clear. I can't imagine my life without Korean Skincare anymore.
For the haircare, I'm still figuring stuff out. Mostly it's Neutral (Shampoo and conditioner at least) and I'm going to try some Korean haircare as well (like oils, serums, heat protector, treatment etc.). But since I have a lot of curls, I won't be buying the full hair care routine in Korean Haircare version.
After 8 years I have found:
Products that work well with my skin;
Products that work well with my eczema, asthma and allergy;
Products that think of environmental and sustainability issues;
Products that are low in price and high in quality.
I hope I reach someone that needed this. If anyone has any questions, please let me know. I hope I helped someone with this story.

Sunny mornings, cold afternoons. I'm having too much coffee these days, but the real issue about it is the amount of sugar.
