"The best thing we can do with power is give it away" - On the leftist critique of superhero narratives as authoritarian power fantasies:
The ongoing "Jason Todd is a cop" debate has reminded me of a brilliant brief image essay by Joey deVilla. So here it is, images first and the full essay text below:

"A common leftist critique of superhero comics is that they are inherently anti-collectivist, being about small groups of individuals who hold all the power, and the wisdom to wield that power. I don’t disagree with this reading. I don’t think it’s inaccurate. Superheroes are their own ruling class, the concept of the übermensch writ large. But it’s a sterile reading. It examines superhero comics as a cold text, and ignores something that I believe in fundamental, especially to superhero storytelling: the way people engage with text. Not what it says, but how it is read. The average comic reader doesn’t fantasize about being a civilian in a world of superheroes, they fantasize about being a superhero. One could charitably chalk this up to a lust for power, except for one fact… The fantasy is almost always the act of helping people. Helping the vulnerable, with no reward promised in return. Being a century into the genre, we’ve seen countless subversions and deconstructions of the story. But at its core, the superhero myth is about using the gifts you’ve been given to enrich the people around you, never asking for payment, never advancing an ulterior motive. We should (and do) spend time nitpicking these fantasies, examining their unintended consequences, their hypocrisies. But it’s worth acknowledging that the most eduring childhood fantasy of the last hundred years hasn’t been to become rich. Superheroes come from every class (don’t let the MCU fool you). The most enduring fantasy is to become powerful enough to take the weak under your own wing. To give, without needing to take. So yes, the superhero myth, as a text, isn’t collectivist. But that’s not why we keep coming back to it. That’s not why children read it. We keep coming back to it to learn one simple lesson… The best thing we can do with power IS GIVE IT AWAY." - Joey deVilla, 2021 https://www.joeydevilla.com/2021/07/04/happy-independence-day-superhero-style/

As I grow older I feel my capacity to understand that Miss Piggy is not a real person reached a peak in my adolescence and is now on a steady decline. I watched a Wendy Williams interview and there's this part that's like "can we get a ring cam!" and Miss Piggy shows her bling and I'm just like fuck she's so iconic. Miss Piggy who are you wearing? Miss Piggy have you ever considered running for office??

Building JARVIS: Some Assembly Required
The next part of my Building JARVIS series is now up!
Now that we had our network cabinet in place, I turned my attention to JARVIS’s hardware. While I want to keep this relatively budget friendly, I also want to make sure JARVIS will be robust and durable enough to be reliable 24/7 for us. If we’re going to have a locally hosted solution for our files and services, JARVIS needs to be up to the task. While I’ve been building my own PCs since the…

Building JARVIS: Get This Man A Really Big PC Case...
Okay so for those of you new to the blog, when we left off (before the last post about my website woes), I was talking about how we decided on building a server to handle anything I could throw at it. Now before I go any further, I just want to establish that this is not going to be a “how to” so much as “what we’re doing.” Now where we’re going to go in a slightly different direction than most…

Sometimes we have to shift our way of thinking from being happy when we reach X to finding pieces of happiness now. It's not always possible, as sometimes that big goal can help us reach a more stable environment, and in those cases, it's okay to stay more focused on it. As much as we can, let's remember that life is filled with all the little moments we make of it, and let's spend it with things that fill our hearts!

Non-witchy life tip: get a dvd player and a library card. Streaming services are so wishy-washy and half the time you need an extra subscription to get the good movies and shows anyways.
You can usually find some dvd players in pretty damn good condition at your local thrift stores. You can also find good movies there :>
My library has movies you can check out, and as far as I know most other libraries do.
So go get a dvd player.
And a library card.

My favorite thing to do before executing a risky maneuver is to loudly proclaim to anyone nearby that "I'm young, I'm fantastic, and I'm never gonna die". This is firstly to pump myself up, secondly because if I succeed I'll be proven right in front of an audience, and thirdly because it is the funniest possible thing to say immediately before being horrifically mangled in a completely dumbfuck sort of way
