DEVELOPMENT PROJECT 1 Blog #1
I exported the sculpted meshes from 3D Coat to Blender for further development. First, I had to remesh the models because sculpting cause a mix of triangles and quads vertices in the surfaces. Then I decimated the mesh so, I can get reasonable amount of geometry to work with. Then I sculpted further finishing scratches and holes to make the model look part of ancient Roman Architecture.

After, modelling was complete. I proceeded for texturing.

DEVELOPMENT PROJECT 1 Blog #2
My first mistake, I didn’t unwrap the models. Obviously, there was an error in Substance Painter. Usually, I take textures from “Polyhaven” and “Texture3D” but now I decided to learn new softwares for my career path. I have yet to learn the process of baking high poly models features on low poly that’s why I am using low poly models directly.

This is one of the model, that I textures in Substance Painter. One good thing about Painter is that, its layer texturing method is similar to Photoshop. Now, I have somewhat textured the models. It is time for rendering.

DEVELOPMENT PROJECT 1 Blog #3
Now, the main task is rendering. I have Blender and Unreal Engine to render. I exported the models as FBX in Unreal and set up a cine camera and sequencer for rendering with normal lighting. I also took render from Blender as well. Though this isn’t enough I have learnt a new workflow with Blender,3D Coat, Substance Painter and Unreal Engine. This project is my stepping stone to improve this field.

Development Project -2 Blog #1
In continuation of applying textures on the landscape, I added Post Process Volume to add detail to lighting in the scene. I may tinker with it later as well because in most tutorials it is applied in later stages. I sculpted landscape as well so I can create an illusion that there is more landscape beyond this one.

Development Project -2 Blog #2
After previous blog, I spent time on adding and scattering different foliage and  assets on the landscape. Sometimes assets looked too much and other times it felt that there were still some details remaining. Now, I think this is my final setup and I am going to render it in Unreal.

Development Project -2 Blog #3
Now, For the final blog I placed cine camera actor and created level sequencer to render my final result. I tweaked the settings in cine camera to add focus and blur. Added some decals on the ground to add realism. This is the final result.

3D Printing Blog #21
After selecting the ‘Sword of the Slayer’ for 3D modelling, I plan to model and sculpt this sword entirely in 3D Coat. At first, it was a bit hectic process from not using Blender to create basic shape but after spending sometime, I got accustomed to this new workflow.

Though the model is ready, I haven’t printed it yet.

3D Printing Blog #20
For this assignment, I chose to 3D model a prop from my favourite manhwa ‘Leviathan’. A Manhwa is essentially Korean comics or print cartoons. It is directly inspired from Japanese comics known as Manga. A brief description of the webtoon Leviathan:
“In the world where the sea level has risen, the sea has already covered the continent. In the world where the land can not be found anymore, the family of the boy, ‘Bota’, lives in a small boat and wanders around. " I am looking for another ‘man’ somewhere and I am safe in the rules that my father has set.”

3D Printing Blog #19
About 3D Printing, 3D printing is a fabrication process in which three-dimensional objects are made from digital models in layer-by-layer fashion. It incorporates the use of plastics, metals, and ceramics through the use of FDM or SLA printers, among others, for rapid prototyping, customized manufacturing, and even the creation of complex designs that could not be achieved with traditional means. Applications are within medical devices and automotive parts but also cover fashion and art. STL Files: STL stands for Stereolithography. It is the most common file format in 3D printing. The STL file format describes only the surface geometry of a three-dimensional model along with its mesh of interconnecting triangles and doesn't contain any information about colors, textures, and materials. Accuracy in STL files ensures precision in 3D printing.

Using a “bit” of 3D Blog #18
As I continued learning 3D Coat, I started to use it in my development project: 1. Creating base pillar, walls etc in Blender, I exported them in 3D Coat and started sculpting on them. There is too much detail that has to be added as below is my reference that I created in Photoshop.

Using a “bit” of 3D Blog #17
Continuing learning 3D Coat as it serves many purpose. For instance one can create an entire city by just using black and white image which serves as height map.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Using that image as stencil, helps in creating different shapes for buildings. This can be used to fast model certain objects.

Using a “bit” of 3D Blog #16
For this assignment, I thought of practicing a new software ‘3D Coat’. For creating complicated assets which require sculpting, I decided 3D Coat is the software that will help create those models. So, I started to watch tutorials on youtube and started modelling stuff. Additionally, in many tutorials the creators model basic outline of their asset in either Blender or software of their choice and then export it in 3D Coat to further refine it.

Pushing Boundaries, Student Competitions in Game Arts and Design Blog #15
I decided to pursue this assignment for my Development-2 project as I came to realisation that there are many concepts in Unreal Engine that I just came to know and it is for the best that I learn those concepts with it. Here I learnt about mesh painting and mixing different textures. The ground tiling is here an issue but in tutorials, many methods have been given to tackle it; One solution is by adding different assets or populate the scene so the pattern becomes unrecognisable.

Pushing Boundaries, Student Competitions in Game Arts and Design Blog #14
As I practiced in Unreal Engine, I decided to make a desert scene with the use of foliage and some assets from Megascans. I watched tutorials of how different textures can be merged through this, I came to know about Quixel Mixer which helps to create realistic textures. Additionally, I started downloading assets from Quixel and started to placing for practice.

Pushing Boundaries, Student Competitions in Game Arts and Design Blog #13
For this assignment, I started to look on Youtube about various competitions that took place related to environment art. I watched “125 Artists Create Unique Renders From a Simple Prompt | PARALLEL DIMENSIONS” and many others to get an idea about how these competitions work. Then I decided that” The Bi-Monthly Environment Art Challenge | September – October: Polycount ” fits my path. So, I decided to create a small environment scene like a games’s introductory scene. This scene, I decided that I will make it in Unreal Engine as it would help me in getting familiar with the software.

LIGHT and SHADOWS Blog #12
For the final scene, I exported everthing from model to textures to Unreal Engine. In UE, I experimented on the light i.e Atmospheric Light, Height Fog and Volumetric Cloud etc.

LIGHT and SHADOWS Blog #11
To continue on the Landscape, I decided to add textures on the landscape and for that I had to prepare certain masks. Masks will help me add layers of sediment, dirt and water etc to a single Landscape. These masks will enable me to create a realistic environment.

These are some of the Masks , I used to texture the Landscape in Substance Painter.
