Posting AI-generated content to a platform intended to be an archive for writers is not appropriate use of the platform. On a platform intended for human creation, it is rude and inappropriate to clog search results with AI-produced content which often plagiarizes the work of human authors.

Use of generative AI is also horrible for our environment, leading to massive waste of fossil fuel energy and water. We should not be doing damage to our planet for the sake of generating (robot-produced, often plagiarized) fiction, especially when the joy of fiction comes from the creation and emotion of real people.

Rather than giving a prompt to a generative AI, people should consider attempting to write their own work, or asking another writer from the fandom if they would be interested in writing it. Anyone who is capable of typing a prompt into ChatGPT is capable of writing a story. The first attempts may not be amazing, but that is true of any skill, and anyone can improve with time and practice - and while ChatGPT may give you big returns in your time, it doesn't give you practice, growth, or creativity, which is where the joy of writing should come from.

Kinda disheartening tbh when you search for people talking about something on tumblr and you find only a single post with like 10 notes. Anyway, I learned about this from Facebook just today and decided I'm going to abuse my follower count to spread the word.

You'll have a hard time finding this in the news because it's being covered up, but from February 4-present the RCMP have been conducting raids on multiple Mi'kmaw reserves part of Acadia First Nation. Their excuse is that they are searching for illegal cannabis.

During the raids, so far they:

Stole a number of truck houses

Stole money from an 8-yo boy's piggy-bank that he had been saving for two years

Invaded homes and destroyed personal property, including basketwork and carvings

Broke the door down of a bathroom occupied by a 14-yo boy as he was using it - the boy has been traumatized by this

Assaulted a man for questioning why they were searching his property without providing a warrant, pinning him into the snow

Cut power of security cameras to hide these actions

I cannot stress enough that the RCMP coming down this hard on our people over motherfucking cannabis is nothing but a racist excuse. There are countless, countless, countless white-owned massive grow-ops making big money without cops lifting a single finger.

Really Big Coin Skrekkøgle

This is our Really Big Coin. It is big because it makes other things look small when photographed next to it. Actually, it is a 20:1 replica of the EUR 50-cent, you see it being milled out here. We needed to do quite a bit of sanding, lacquering and smudging to obtain the desired look and some climbing to get into required shooting position (you need to get up real high to take good pictures). The result is a short series of photographs, attempting to visually scale down real-sized objects.

In the UK, phones used to be provided by the phone company. And the phone company was the nationalised British Telecom (once it branched off from the General Post Office). No other options.

You didn't just say, "My phone's a bit old and clunky and I can't get that stain off. I'll buy a new one." The phone was wired into the wall - no detachable socket - so you had to get a BT engineer to come out and wire in the new phone.

This meant that, if you moved house, you got the previous owner's phone. In the mid-1980s, we moved into a house that had been owned by a heavy smoker. That phone was VILE.

We were so thankful when we got a BT engineer out to check an issue on the line, and he gave us a new phone. A PUSH BUTTON phone. We were FANCY.

Now I wish I had a rotary phone. That lovely clunk and the feel of the dial around your finger.

Incidentally, the rotary phone is part of the reason 999 is the UK's emergency number. The 9 was right next to the rotary stop, so made it easy to find in the dark, smoke, or if you were visually impaired.

(Part of the reason. It was also easier to modify payphones for the numbers at the end to be free of charge.)
