Activity 2: design a simple survey
Hi everyone! Here I am again, advancing the course...
The challenge here is to design a simple survey. So here I go...
The survey I have designed aims to evaluate the relevance and design of a project by the perspective of the implementing team.
1. In your opinion, what was the relevance of the project considering the needs and priorities of the project target group?
( ) very low; ( ) low; ( ) average; ( ) high; ( ) very high; ( ) not sure
2. How was the project's performance in meeting the needs of its beneficiaries?
( ) very low; ( ) low; ( ) average; ( ) high; ( ) very high; ( ) not sure
3. How do you rate stakeholder support in project design?
( ) very low; ( ) low; ( ) average; ( ) high; ( ) very high; ( ) not sure
4. Were the design and logical concept of the project appropriate to achieve its objectives?
( ) very appropriate ( ) appropriate ( ) average ( ) not appropriate

Exploring Methods: Surveys - Week 2 and 3
Activity1 improve these survey questions
Hi everyone!
The idea here is to point out some of the problems with the questions presented. I´ve chosed 3 questions (out of 10) to focuse my analysis.
1. Which subject did you enjoy the most at school?
[ ] mathematics [ ] sciences [ ] English [ ] foreign languages [ ] history [ ] social studies
[ ] art / music
[ ] after school clubs
[ ] sports practice
[ ] Other
The problem with these question is that it is not clear if the respodents are expected to indicate one answer which most applies, or indicate all that apply?
3. How familiar are most of the students and tutors on your course with the use of social networking systems?
[ ] very familiar
[ ] somewhat familiar
[ ] fairly unfamiliar
[ ] very unfamiliar
How should the respondents focuse their anwer to: students or tutors? It can be very difficult to ether respond to as well as to analyse the responses when you design a question with more than one variable, in this case, students and tutors familiarity with the use of social networking systems.
10. Please indicate your age.
[ ] 18 – 25 years
[ ] 25 – 35 years
[ ] 35 – 45 years
[ ] 45 years and over
Here, the responses can generate bias when you have duplicity of age in two different answers. For example: a 25 years old can choose ether the first or the secons alternative. The data generated is not valid.

Introduction to Social Research Methods - Week 1
Hello everyone! This is my first Blog experience and it cames with the task to share thoughts and impressions about a edX course that I am attending on Social Research Methods.
I am a consultant and I work with monitoring and evaluation of Social and Economic Projects and Programmes. So, I am constantly designing and implementing research methods.
Currently I am interested in research what are the main variables that affects the success/unsuccess of resourse mobilization initiatives from the Private Sector perspective, or the donnor perspective.
I would like to research people and organizations.
I still dont know exactly what kind of methods that might help me to gather useful knowledge in this area of interest. But it was suggested that I should consider using qualitative methods such as interviews and focus groups as well as ethnographic approaches and survey research.
I have used those methods before, so I am very familiar with them. I don´t have any initial questions about things I don´t understand yet.
The challenges that I forsee at this point is how to gain access to relevant people from big companies (how to identify and access the right people, those who are the decision makers of sponsor/donnations) and understand how they make those decisions.
