But that was actually the point! He needed everyone to see him so they could follow him outside of HQ and leave the "GoHome" Machine unattended!
He run all across HQ making sure that the SpiderMob all followed him outside so he could sneak back again inside but invisible to have enough time to turn on the machine. Because everyone chased him outside there was no one to stop him in time, Miguel barely made it there to see him go.
If he hadn't turn invisible, maybe Miguel and a couple more Spiders would have gone after him but not that far away from HQ and the hallways would have been so full of Spiders that someone could have noticed the machine running.
So yeah, it wasn't a mistake on Miles! He wasn't panicking and just running, he had a plan! And it worked!
