From light-hearted backstories, to daring adventures across Thedas, to epic, spicy smut, our writers have been hard at work getting ready to share their works with you.

We are looking for a variety of artists to join our Big Bang and create one illustration per fic, tangibly inspired by that story. There is a story to suit every taste!

Artist Participation in Brief

Work Time: August 11 - October 31.

You will produce a polished illustration tangibly inspired by the fanfiction you're paired with.

You are not required to be a professional or experienced artist to join.

We'll need artists interested in illustrating a wide variety of topics, including characters and events from all three Dragon Age games. We will also need artists comfortable being associated with NSFW fics, including darkfics.

👉You can choose to depict the featured characters, a specific scene, or something broader, like the kind of image that might be used for a book cover. This is up to your discretion, and you're encouraged to talk to your writer for inspiration - but this is not a commission, so you are encouraged to follow your imagination!

Choose Fics & Sign Up August 2nd - 8th

On August 2nd, artists will be able to read every single story pitch from the Bang and sign up with their top 3 choices. Pitches will be anonymous (you will not know the author). You can find an example of what information writers will provide you with here.

The stories pitched to us range from Teen to Explicit ratings. There are many different relationships represented, including platonic and crossover ships, and we have writers focusing on both canon characters as well as OCs.

In just a few short weeks, you will be able to read the enticing summaries of these Dragon Age fanfics—and decide to make an illustration for one of your choice.

What is a Big Bang?

A fandom Big Bang encourages writers to produce a new, long piece of fanfiction, with the challenge of a deadline. Each fic will be paired with an artist, who will work with the author to create a new illustration based off of the themes and vibes of that work. Each pair of participants in this event will produce: One (1) new Dragon Age Fanfic of at least 25,000 words, and one (1) art piece inspired by that fic. What does artist participation in the Bang look like?

Artists will sign up by ranking their preference of fanfictions based on detailed idea pitches (example) presented by the writers. Artists commit to illustrating a new, polished artwork that is tangibly inspired by their assigned fanfiction written during the event. During the collaboration process, artists stay in regular contact with their writer and work collaboratively on their projects

What does "tangibly inspired by the fanfiction" mean?

▸ The artwork includes characterts as represented in the fanfiction, OR ▸ The artwork depicts an interpretation of a scene from the fanfiction, OR ▸ The artwork represents a high-level view of the fanfiction in entirety (ex: the kind of image that might be for a book cover)

👉Even if a fic is a modern AU Professor Solas fic, you do not have to depict a modern setting, modern clothes, or even Solas at all. Even if a fic features OCs, you are not required to depict those OCs. You can find a broader view of artistic representation, if you desire.

What does "polished artwork" mean?

▸ Must meet the standard set by the artist's general portfolio of previous artworks ▸ Your work should match the level of effort of a 25k+ word fic ▸ You are not required to be a professional or experienced artist, but you are asked to put in an effort that you would be proud to attach your name to in a public forum. ▸ Polished does not necessarily mean "highly rendered" or "full color"; if the artist primarily works in pen and ink, for example, then a black and white artwork is acceptable.

Okay. Forgive me for reposting. But I figured out how to get less compression out of the program, and that jpeg was just so bad. Please be patient with me while I learn how to use digital, I’m old and slow and used to watching paint dry.

So, here’s Da’mi again, plus a few details because I spent too much time on those small areas to lose them completely.

Another collaboration in the books! It was so fun to make this piece for @ahufflepuffhobbit's beautiful fic, Bruises on the Heart (Link to AO3). It's so tender and sweet and FUNNY – great comedic timing in this one, pals. I hope you read it :)

And some traditional media! This is a colored pencil drawing of a rather anatomical-looking red crystal, in my new black paper sketchbook. It was way goddamn harder than I expected, and I almost gave up, but I’m glad I stuck with it. Things went better once I relaxed. 

Maybe someday I’ll try to get a photo without glare, but for now I’m not too bothered about it.

i have a few resources i look to consistently but i'm gonna plug anatomy for sculptors as One Of The Most Useful. great if you're a 3D artist, INVALUABLE if you're a 2D artist. gives you turnarounds of specific limbs/fiddly body parts like ears. great especially if you're referencing a photo and start looking at an individual part like 'wait, what the hell is going on in there'
