the best/worst thing about the wait for twow is that I‘m pretty sure grrm has all the jaime and brienne stuff locked in ✅ outline for a dream of spring written ✅ their storyline is pretty straightforward lbr. it’s the fuckass dragons being too small and bran looking through time and all the complications that come with it that are throwing him off. probably.
somewhere on his ancient hard drive jaime and brienne are fucking nasty style and we‘ll never get to see it bc of bran. fuck you bran.

ned being held up as the metric for moral goodness in asoiaf is absurd like did you not read bran i, agot in which he beheads a man on the run from the others because he must fulfill his fedual oaths and he carries out the execution through his family's ancestral sword which was definitely forged for the exact opposite purpose, i.e. in defense of the north against the others. and then he uses ice again to behead the direwolf which was meant to protect his daughter. is it any wonder that he also meets his end the same way, through it, after spending the rest of the book in king's landing in service to a failed king, desperately trying to reassure himself that they are not repeating history. bran i is saying ice was already metaphorically broken long before tywin melted it down because the starks have forgotten their magical history yes, but also because ned represents an older, failed generation in service to hollow chivalric ideals. and it is now up to his children, the ones coming of age in a world destroyed by the previous generations—it is up to bran, sansa, arya, and jon to reforge their family legacy, away from contradictory oaths and in service to hollow paradigms. (and in a way ice is already currently being remade through brienne, who is not a knight of the songs but still the closest thing to the idea of a true knight)

I was going through your meta links (I find your meta a really insightful reading of the books and it's made me look at them with fresh eyes which is a lot of fun) and was especially curious about your answer to why Jaime told Brienne about the wildfire and Aerys, but the link is broken and I can't find it by searching your tags or blog :( would you be willing to share your thoughts on it again?
idk what i said but i think it is a culmination of factors. brienne embodies true knighthood/heroism, and is an indisputably good individual and is a person whose approbation part of jaime actually deeply craves (george has expressed this in an interview before) to the point that he will actually justify himself to her and open up to her + jaime was also stripped bare of all of his walls throughout asos, and the bath itself + injuries etc have him in a state where his control is not the best obviously, but still, brienne is his past self’s idealistic mirror. if anybody on earth will listen, and hear him, deep down he knows she is someone who would. one of the most gnawing fears that jaime has as per the asos dream is that his society, including the people who he idealized as the epitome of knighthood and honor, would reject him even with the confession and still believe he was wrong to do the right thing even with the context, and that is something that would snuff that fire out in him permanently. it is a confrontation that would lead to the justification of his extreme cynicism regarding how the world functions and how human beings are like, which is the most heartbreaking thing for an idealist. but by the confession he viscerally knows that brienne would not do such a thing. and she doesnt. because people can be good, and they can understand. there are true heroes! “i dreamed of you.”

What do you think about Jaime killing Ned's men? I think this was even worse than what he did to Bran. At least for bran he had a reason and he did it out of disgust. But this was pure revenge and it was cruel. It was nothing like Jaime in A Feast for Crows.
i don't really feel toooo strongly about this like yes it's basically Jaime's fault that Tyrion was in danger in the first place but also. he's mad protective of his siblings and Ned openly claims he ordered Tyrion's abduction (albeit to protect Cat), so given that's an act of war in itself, Jaime responds in kind. but it's brutal yeah, and I think Jaime in AGOT is in a very violent state of mind: he's discovered he has it in him to (try to) kill a child, and now he thinks he might do anything. it's kind of just as well he was captured by Robb's men, bc guy was spiralling. have to say i think the true low point (and Jaime seems to agree here lol) is that he was willing to hunt down Arya for the incident on the Trident. he looks back on this almost incredulously, like what the fuck was I thinking. and yeah i think that just goes to show how far gone he was between Bran and the Whispering Wood.
but I have also further thoughts about this scene, and how I think the show's version may have been a retcon on GRRM's part?? i'm really interested in the potential parallel here between Ned confronting the KG at the Tower of Joy in his search for Lyanna, and Jaime confronting Ned's men here in his search for Tyrion. the books show Jaime starting out with a great deal of antipathy towards Ned, but i think gradually we're shown that the two had a lot more in common, and that some part of Jaime wants to do right by Ned in the end. Sansa and Arya are like a second chance to save Rhaenys and Aegon to him i think, and Jaime's even gonna be waving half of Ned's sword around by series close, so.
