August Almost Broke Me

dearyoutx, I finally got my geometric arrow as a tribute to you guys. In the song I Am The Arrow, you sing, “Have love in your heart and hold it high above your head. Share with the world what others haven’t found.” Those are some of my favorite words I’ve heard from a band. In the past three years, I’ve seen you guys grow, along with myself, and every time you release something new, I relate to it with all my heart. An arrow with this geometric twist (which in itself has more meaning), is a simple way to show the world that I’m changed and influenced by music. Thank you for always being so kind and for the fight you put in my chest with the noise you make.

Hi, I’m Mae, and I frequently talk about dearyoutx to all my friends. I don’t thinks it’s a problem though. That’s a damn good band, I’m doing my friends a favor.

Please read. This is incredibly important to us. Share if you can. So this album comes out in 1 week. We are so extremely excited to release everything we have been working on the past 6 months. We have done some things with this music that we haven't had a chance to do in our career, and having you guys hear it is so exciting for us. We have an awesome release lined up, and we think you guys are going to be really happy with us and the EP. We poured so, so much into the songs, and we have listened over and over again perfecting and redoing things on this album. We have had a lot of bad things happen to us, and we have decided that with whatever happens in this life to us, we want music to be at the front of our passions and our attention. Bringing music to our fans is so terribly important to us, that we would drag ourselves through hell and back to keep making songs for you all. With how this industry works, the first week of sales is everything. It's something we haven't paid much attention to in the past, but we have to start. If we do well selling the album in the first week through our new label Third String Records, it opens up SO many doors for us. Touring opportunities, the potential to drive to every corner of the world and play our music for all of our fans. We are hoping to do something REALLY big for this release. Wouldn't it be the greatest to see "I Can Only Blame Myself" hit the top 10 rock charts on iTunes? To see little Dear You right next to all of those artists and bands we look up to so much? With your help, we can make this happen. If we can work together and get this album bought by everyone and we can show this label just how much Dear You's fans care. We can shove the album up the charts and get people paying attention. We have 11,775 fans on facebook as I write this, if HALF of you guys bought a copy on iTunes, Google Play, or Amazon in the first week, thats roughly 5,000 copies in the FIRST WEEK. We would be forever in debt to you all, and forever grateful. The chance to see this band succeed is all we ask. 5 years ago, Louis and I started this band with the goal in mind to just write music, to be who we are and to see how far we could take our music, and subsequently, how far it could take us. We’ve had the immense pleasure of touring with some of our favorite bands, recording amazing music with some of our now best friends in the world, and see some fantastic places and experience so many things as Dear You.  We added Mason and Thomas later at different times in our timeline of the band, and grew so closely with the both of them, that we all four just couldn’t imagine playing music with anyone else. The bond that is born through this sort of chemistry and involvement in each others lives really rises above what a normal brotherhood can be. We never really questioned what would happen if and when one of us left, and unfortunately we have had to come to that crossroad.  Mason has chosen to leave Dear You, and pursue his schooling away from music. We have nothing but love and support for Mason, and we have continually wished him the best in this new chapter of his life. When you get so close to these people in your lives, and expand these relationships past what you thought you had, you always want the best above all else for the people you care for. We have always pushed each other to do better, be better, and pursue exactly what we all want in life, and that is exactly the mentality we want Mason to remember as he continues onward. Mason has been a MASSIVE part of this band, and we are terribly sad to see his exit. We came to the point where we weren’t sure if Dear You could even continue without such an important member; whether we could cope with such a significant loss of our dynamic. We can’t lie and say things weren’t a little dark after we all had the talk about him leaving. There was a very serious discussion that was almost the end of this band. We ultimately just could not let that happen. We care too much about you guys, the people that validate EVERYTHING we do with our music, and what we live life for. We owe you all more than you could ever know, and we are pushing harder than ever before to show it.  With all of this being said, we have huge announcements to make. We have signed to Third String Records, and are more than excited to finally be in a position to bring you all the music you want to hear, the content that you really want to see, and tour enough to meet ALL of you. Mike Ziemer and Third String Productions have been an amazing blessing to this band, and believe in us just as much as we believe in ourselves. We are incredibly happy to say we are the first band signed to Third String Records as their relaunch unfolds, and together we are going to bring you so many good things.  August 20th, 2014, we will be premiering a brand new song and lyric video titled “Castles” with our great friends over at idobi Radio.  We are also incredibly pleased to announce that we will be releasing a brand new album in October of 2014, something we have been working tirelessly on for the past 6 months. We will release more information very soon.  Thank you so much, from the bottom of our hearts, for the years of support and love, and the very amazing relationships we have developed through this band. We are here, stronger than ever, and we have an amazing team who believe in us now. We are moving to the next level, and we are so thrilled that we have you all with us.  We love you all. Public Service Announcement

everyone should go listen to dearyoutx because their music rocks and so do they. seriously they are an awesome group of guys and their music is beautiful as are they. that is all.

This is the 3rd song we have done that was ordered from a supporter of our band. Its the first full band song we have gotten, and it was a total challenge and blast to do. Our good friend Janet contacted us, wanting this song. She left a very simple concept she wanted the song to be about, "The beauty of life and the joy that comes with every new day". 

The challenging aspect of this was that it left me very open to write about anything and everything. How could I write about such a positive thing, make it genuine and sincere, and hopefully not hit something off color that didn't offend? I ended with the lyrical concept that became this song. It starts with feeling like you can't accept happiness and the truest form of joy which I think Janet tried to highlight with her concept. The song starts with struggle and ends with positive attitude and an uplifting message, Keep Looking Forward. Janet posted a tumblr entry with her side of the process, and I think it's really interesting to read things from her point of view! Check out what she has to say. Lyrics below.

The Years Aren't Moving Backwards

This song is the second we have recorded for our ditty deli recipients, and this one is appropriately titled "Small Talk", bearing the name of the entire collection.  I connected with this song more than the others so far, recorded or not. It ultimately is about divorce, the struggle between feelings and emotions, happiness and anger, wrapped all up with sadness. The song delves deeply into some personal situations with the person who commissioned us for this song, to which extent I won't go out of respect for her. I will say however, that if you've dealt with parents divorcing, it hurts. It's so confusing. Watching a new family form with other people, watching your parents slowly resent each other, trying to stay strong for everyone because it's all you really can do...its tough on a person. I chased that feeling hard. I wanted to really jump back and forth with hurt and pain, happiness and hope, and a little regret, and I wanted the music to reflect it. This is one of the darker songs Dear You has really written, and I love it for that reason. The point of the song in my eyes is to explain the things that you don't get to say when everyone is talking over you and fighting and in the middle of it all, and to ultimately circle back to hoping everything can be better, realizing that forgiveness is necessary to return to normal, and being okay with the fact that its not great yet, but its good and getting better. Being okay with the small talk for now. 

Small Talk I can't lie and say i havent changed at least a little bit i doubt you could say we've all stayed somewhat the same over the last four years its been around for much longer, all the lights were burnt out but nobody had the heart to knock on the door  and keeping quiet pulled this house apart  sometimes i wonder if we could ever be closer  its hard to shake the feeling that we were easy to replace how is the view from london this year?  if i concentrate enough its like im right there with you i'll do my best to forgive if it brings us together until then im okay with small talk about the weather for awhile it was hard to get over all of this change how can i forgive you if i know who you really are?  does this prove that my heroes exist?  cause it scares me how quickly people can change  i was fast asleep back then but now im wide awake  im doing what i can to be bigger than this i see hatred and hurt and all it does is bring us down if i have to move mountains just to feel at home again, then so be it. im ready.
