i wish we could expand the definition of characters having a "parent/child relationship" (platonic connotation) to the nastier parts of parenting: the projection, the control, the invasions of privacy, the entitlement, the codependency that sours into mutual bitterness because the relationship is unbreakable and fragile at once. I want to see two unrelated characters have the kind of perversely needy animosity generally reserved for a lonely, angry mother and her kids... i want to see two characters who never once knew each other as kids play out the dynamics of an inheritance of misfortune otherwise reserved by fathers for their children

there’s an old post of mine where i made a joke about sasuke not knowing the answers in the chunin exams and you know, it was not meant to be serious but after the post kept doing rounds i noticed how many people actually think that sasuke is not smart because of that scene alone. which is very silly but also shows how people take one line at face value and ignore the context and every action afterwards..
like first of all my post was an obvious joke because if anything that scene actually ends up proving how out of the three in team 7 sasuke is the one that actually has the deduction skills that the test was evaluating
being book smart might be good sure but that’s not required to be a shinobi.
of course, this is just one of the many examples of sasuke displaying how intelligent and insightful he can be, especially when it comes to fights. sasuke is probably one of the best characters at strategy due to his sharpness
for example, he’s the only one able to realize the fake naruto in the fod and also comes up with a plan that will reveal the enemy’s identity
he’s also the only one out of the three that can tell something is off about kabuto
during his fights with deidara and danzo he develops a strategy against both and the reason he’s able to win against them despite deidara being a whole akatsuki member that took down a jinchuriki and danzo having a whole arsenal of sharingan eyes is because he outsmarts both of them with his skills
sasuke is even praised a lot by his intelligence by many characters and even madara is impressed and almost wishes sasuke had been born earlier so he could’ve used him instead of obito
and also yk what i said being book smart is not really all that? well it’s not lol but sasuke is also booksmart, so much so that he was at the top of his class during their academy era
i think a big part people don’t view sasuke as a smart character (bias aside) is because his arc has older figures manipulating him but it’s ignored that these manipulations never happen because sasuke is dumb or ignorant and there’s always a bigger context on why they work on him
