Also I’m still on this brainrot: ALL OF VAMPIRE!AMITY’S GREATEST WEAKNESSES ARE THINGS THAT WERE (at some point) BELIEVED TO STAVE OFF DISEASE.
Because truly a part of Vespodoza’s whole thing is pestilence and Amity’s whole vampire subtext is leaning heavily onto the transformation of disease (specifically tuberculosis) into these personified monsters.
Amity is weak to all manner of smoke — but especially burnt herbs do extremely well in forcing her to remain in her humanoid form and being discombobulating her
Vinegar causes severe to minor burns on her skin (in human form) and thus will force her into Swarm Form to escape it
We’ve already gone over her weakness to the cold and the winter period!
Open space and ‘fresh air’ (aka. Just normal ass wind) won’t hurt Amity but it does make it a LOT more difficult for her swarm to move en masse and attack when half of her is trying to be blown away.
Copper is her silver and copper weaponry and tools is especially effective at both dissuading her (the aroma of it makes her nauseous) and in hurting her in both forms
Do I dare get silly on the main and post the frankly horrifying somewhat-vampire AU for Amity?? DO I DARE

OKAY WHO AM I KIDDING I ABSOLUTELY DO DARE
this whole verse can be summed up by this one message from my discord!
Tumblr media
So, the long and the short of Amity's vampire state: I've kind of written it as an in-between state of a complete Vespodoza transformation (Human-to-Pokemon fate worse than death type deal) and a human existence, leaning heavily onto the fact that Vespodoza is known for it's massive swarms of millions of insects described as 'mouths with wings' that run on a hivemind and could darken the sky en masse.
SHE'S A VAMPIRE - BUT IN THE WAY THAT LADY DIMISTRESCU'S DAUGHTERS ARE VAMPIRES FROM A TECHNICAL STANDPOINT, in fact, I draw a lot of inspiration from the Dimistrescu sisters (and the Jorōgumo) when it comes to a vampire!Amity and parts of the way she works! Amity IS the undead; she DID die, HOWEVER, she's not a corpse.
SO THE BASICS:
Amity doesn't go out during the day much, but it's not that she will die if she does; it's just easier to maintain normalcy and to keep people from noticing the slight imperfections in her form under the cover of night.
Amity cannot transform into a bat or a swarm of bats. Instead, she can transform and freely shapeshift between a humanform and MASSIVE (>5000) swarm of insects of an indeterminate species (they're Vespodoza's species, which is a hellish amalgamation of wasps and fleshflies and visually almost has a human-like statue-esc flair ala. those spiders from The Mist also WARNING FOR THE LINK; it's a concept art drawing for the spiders from the film; if you're afraid of spiders or spider-like creatures, I recommend not clicking it!)
Amity doesn't suck blood in the typical fang-on-neck way, but she's carnivorous and only capable of eating/digesting meat through her swarm. Eating with her mouth in human form is pointless and a waste of time. Only her flies can consume energy for the collective. This said, biting her victims allows easy entrances for Amity's flies to burrow deep into the flesh to lay their eggs.
She's not nocturnal or diurnal, but a third secret thing: she never needs to sleep! She is bugs! Rotating bugs, a massive hive-mind of THOUSANDS of bugs that are a machine unto itself. She has no need to sleep, no drive to sleep (mostly, she can be tempted by the humans around her though) and so, she tends simply not to! How does she do so much AND have a good social life? Cause she doesn't sleep baybeee!
THIS BEING SAID THOUGH, now that she is Bugs, she's now susceptible to low temperatures and shorter photoperiods which would force her swarm to begin halting her metabolism and forcing her to undergo seasonal diapause and eventually shut down for hibernation completely (which would obviously leave her very open & very vulnerable, so she has her loved ones put her entire swarm in a large crate with leaves and bury her in vampire fashion until next spring)
Amity CAN'T transform other humans into whatever a person could consider her state of existence to be—however, she DOES rely on humans to maintain her existence, and she propagates using human bodies to host and incubate new generations of flies for her swarm; like a parasitic wasp, and, like wasps, often transforms her victims into a zombified, thrall-like state in the process as she's shut their brain down, (yes, she does need to maintain their numbers! They naturally have a lifespan of 5 years, but there needs to be constant rotation regardless! Some will be squished, some will be killed, some lost, etc. facts of life, that!)
Amity is capable of Vampire-Typical hypnosis—not through staring into the eyes or supernatural charm, but through chemicals produced by her swarm, which she can inject into her prey through bites from both the swarm and her teeth.
Amity can fly! This is mostly through reverting her body into her swarm form!
OH AND THE DEATH THING - yeah, Amity IS dead, but she's not a corpse - let me explain. So, Vespodoza in his Pokemon / interdimensional-demon-thing form was two parts - his body and his swarm, and his swarm was, for the most parts his greatest strength but also his most immense burden because they were so huge. He knew this, so when he'd get beaten back by the legendaries into needing to slink away, what he'd always do is kill off and consume his current swarm and re-lay hundreds of thousands of feet of hive and dormant hidden beneath the Earth's surface in caves. That way, he could slink around incognito and regain his strength slowly until he was ready to emerge as a reborn menace. He would call all of the hives to burst open and the swarm to return to him. But, things changed, Vespodoza took over Amity, Amity took over Vespodoza (this is all the basic canon for most verses, btw), and then Amity was killed, and where Vespodoza used to be was now her spirit. Her body, as in the physical body, is dead, so her consciousness swapped over to the dormant hives Vespodoza had laid, and for the first time in 200+ years, the swarm emerged with her in partial control and flocked to the Tower of Silence, where Amity's (and Vespodoza's) body laid interred. Amity didn't know what tf was going on, but the Swarm came pre-programmed bc drones and consumed her corpse down to dust to regain her former power and to allow her to use them to return to having a body (using her former corpse as a blue print). AKA. weird demon flies learn to shapeshift by eating a corpse Kirby-Style and other perfectly normal concepts executed by Bunny! Haha
She has the usual strength and resilience, and whatever—we know the vampire gist—a lot of that is because of how fluidly she shifts from fly to human and the sheer overwhelming and overpowering number of flies in her swarm.
NOW STORYWISE??? It's still kind of fluid, I'm working on things, twisting things, y'know. cause this is a sort of love child of me wanting to put Amity through new unforeseen hells!
So, the starting point: THE MOB SUCCESSFULLY ASSASSINATED AMITY. The exact gorey details of how things broke down are unnecessary to detail, but she danced too close to the fire. She had enough of the oppression, of the badgering and the fear, and them trying to kidnap her siblings was HER last straw. She joined in the fight against them and was a key reason why her section of the Country felt emboldened enough to fight back. She was a danger and a revolutionary, and though to that point she hadn't hurt more than their social standing, she was ordered dead, and dead she became - a martyr in the face of change.
But Amity didn't stay dead, as I mentioned above, no sir. Life would not allow her to float away into that dark night - things went black, and a new life slowly began. She found herself seeing through a thousand eyes, enough to make her head spin, and with little control - she saw her corpse lying in state, and she'd felt the thousands of mouths eating it. But through that sensory hell, she gained power, little by little, she got control of the swarm, she directed them home - one by one - but the scene of her siblings mourning for her only broke her further and was the coal in the fire that demanded she get ahold of this new existence.
She needed hands to hold them; she needed to show them that she was here and that she was still around - she needed them as much as they needed her. And two weeks after her passing, she was back like a cloud - or a ghastly - her bugs couldn't handle her in a touchable form, but she began knocking on windows, squeezing through and trying to talk. To the Coven, to Noriko, to anyone (but the youngest; she couldn't show herself to them in this form)
The Palace residents couldn't even mourn in peace, it seemed - cause as soon as Amity's remains were taken to be cremated - everyone began reporting seeing her and hearing her voice in the night. Some might chalk that up to grief, but given Amity's love of ghosts, most suspected it was something malicious that was trying to feed off their grief.
They did cleansings and ceremonies, called in specialists that knew more than themselves, but nothing and Noriko was ENRAGED - this was her sister's memory, and the ghost was only getting more emboldened and their form becoming more complex. By the end, Noriko was inviting the supposed spirit - carrying around a purifying stick and hoping it'd emerge just so she could unleash her anger and grief on it. & of course, Amity called out to her - she was now almost a full person, or person-passing at that point. She called for Nori to please, please listen, and Nori.... well, Nori beat her with the purification stick while Amity tried to reason with her and prove she was the real Amity (siblings will sibling). But after confessing details no one else would have known AND that she knew that Noriko had hidden Amity's father's ring in her corpse's fist, a fact which Noriko had told no one and even produced said ring. Noriko believed her, she knew Amity was who she said she is.
Things fell into place after that, Amity was presented in her buggy undead form to the rest of the Coven, and they didn't reject her - in fact, while it was painful, they embraced Amity in her new form and began covering for her and sheltering her.
The assassination? It was a real assassination but it wasn't Amity, it was a different family member that pretended to be her, the real Amity was in witness protection, she was fiiiiine. But the Coven knows AND the Mob knows the truth. They tried to send others to 'finish the job' but somehow after that, their assassins seemed to disappear... funny that and things became a kind of 'happily ever after' if you don't pay attention to the growing number of missing people in the Region.
(ALSO IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING AMITY IS A BIT EXTRA MURDEROUS IN THIS VERSE BECAUSE SHE IS SO ANGRY ABOUT HER ASSASSINATION AND SHE'S NOT LETTING THE MOB GET AWAY WITH IT OR THE PAIN THEY CAUSED HER LOVED ONES (by killing her) )
BONUS POINTS: While no one exactly understands Amity's condition, in an effort to try and find a cure for whatever's happened, they (Coven and Amity) end up reaching out to anyone they think could have the expertise to help— especially cultural leaders and historians! Who come in thinking they're just going to be asked for educated input but really, they're going to come face to face with the being responsible for much of the dangerous reputation that the Mountains have

Amity would really enjoy Orre if I’m being honest with myself — everything about the Region tickles parts of her curiosity. The stern defiance of the Pokémon life that insists on calling the desert home, the hostile environment, the history that’s been buried deep beneath sand. She’d find it so beautiful in the starkest sort of way — like the same beauty you’d find in watching a lion hunting it’s prey or a cadaver being reduced into pearl white bones. It’s atypical, it’s cruel, it’s unforgiving, but it’s life!
THIS BEING SAID THOUGH I FEEL LIKE SHE’D NEARLY GET HERSELF KILLED WITHIN HOURS OF BEING THERE AND HONESTLY?? Love that for her! She may find Orre fascinating and beautiful but she’s still a bit of a fish out of water and she isn’t built for the fear needed to survive down there DJGDND

He comes so close on the self-sabotaged one at least 3 times... Expected result on the real one.
Ah, checking one’s email. A necessary evil, but one Amity loathed bar none. Funny that — they were made to be an innovation after all, to reduce the headache and expand beyond the constraints of the Pelliper post. Mail at your finger tips instantaneously and for free, yet such features are lost behind the endless noise of it all. A modern innovation, a modern annoyance.
Click, click, emails with similar headers scrolled past, — Oh, phishing email pretending to be the League, ugh, looks like she’s gotten a preview of next week’s League meeting will be about — CLICK, right into the trash. She’d almost zoned out when something caught her eye. A human enough sounding email handle, a human sounding topic line and nothing so corporately polished. — CLICK.
Her screen is bathed in the golden and red hues of a familiar setting, a picture of the Gym-portion of the palace in peak fall serving as a backdrop for something filled with text. She made a face in confusion, but blowing up the image she was met with— a bingo card? No, a filled out bingo card. Huh?
Why is she — oh, OH — oh my stars, that stupid thing?! She can't stop the brief noise that escapes her as the dawning recognition crept up like a well-laid punch line — that stupid questionnaire she filled out, what? two weeks ago? She'd never thought it'd amount to anything — but they did it, like the little caterpie that could.
They'd even included the bold and italics — it's a sweet touch and one that makes her chuckle. But, she didn't make two of those, did she? No, no, she definitely didn't; she remembers the Coven giving her a sour, sucked-lemon look when she listed off the characteristics of her ideal person — they'd had an entire conversation about her sky-high standards, and they'd laughed it off. But that was it — she and the others walked away after that, not another thought paid to the matter — huh, funny.
It must've been that Nayuta or Shizue went back after to make her initial answers more 'reasonable.' The reasoning is flimsy, and something about it doesn't sit right at her core — but she'll take it for now and make a note to bring it up with the others later.
Wow, uh, that sort of ruined the playful vibe — shit, and she was kind of having fun! Leaning back in her chair, she breathed a sigh and pulled herself in from the depths of rumination.
Shifting her attention back to the bingo cards at hand, she paused, if only to humor the sender — wow, they uh, they got a lot further than she would’ve expected most people. One bingo isn’t exactly something to write home about, but she wasn’t- she didn’t think anyone could get a full line. Foolish her. And this mystery bingo, shit, that’s nearly a full card. That’s like a grand prize for bingo, right? Amity doesn’t actually know (she’s never played bingo) but she assumes it’s gotta be big.
Amity's finger hovers above the delete button, but— no, it’s impressive right? It’d almost be insulting to get rid of it, and— she wouldn’t admit it, but something about it made her feel… good. She’d hang on to it, for now, earmark it in her memory. You did good, Orre Boy, you’ve piqued her attention.
| meanwhile me @ ali behind the scenes, you're in buddy, you've got your foot in! |

Billie will forever be my number one motivator - so I've realized both Amity's Self-Sabotaging (AKA too niche to Bingo) Card and her ACTUAL bingo card (if she was ever open to actually realizing what she's looking for)

Of note: I do gotta explain the 'Don't be a hero,'
IT DOESN'T MEAN SHE'S ONLY INTERESTED IN THE MORALLY BLACK / VILLAINS, by 'don't be a hero,' I mean, (for your muses) not to see themselves as THE Hero, the great change in the narrative, the person who HAS to embody the saviour complex and sacrifice. Throwing themselves headlong into conflicts, no matter the large or smallness of it. Taking on every bit of responsibility they can find and, ultimately, driving people away because they end up meddling as much as they do helping. Amity is a woman who has so much on her plate already - she can't handle adding the worry and anxiety of her S/O wellbeing when they seem intent on throwing themselves to burn for others on top of it. She NEEDS her S/O to be able to pick their battles, find what's worth fighting and ultimately restrain themselves. Don't be the hero, y'know? For her heart!

I’m having a not too great day, so, in true Bunny fashion: I’m gonna retract deep into my drafts and DMs and do some dyanmic plotting and indulgent drabbles for some comfort ships to cheer myself up!
If anyone wants to join me for drabbles or dynamic plotting, feel free to add me on discord at Bunnighuleh! I find it’s so much easier to dm and talk on there Vs Tumblr!

Personally? I don’t believe non-specifically battle bred Pokémon would be able to level higher than a 70, cause genetically? That’s their limit, that’s the stop off point where their body can maintain its lively functions and it’s mass both in battle and regular function.
This being said though, Amity’s Spiritomb, Enenra is at least 84 and only growing in strength and this SHOULD scare you (it sure as hell scares her)

The dichotomy with Amity and the other Saijikari Mountain Based Gym Leaders a black and white of either: a. She grew up with them or b. They watched her grow up. Saijikari is just that small and it’s knit together, but less in a ‘we’re all so happy and fuzzy’ way and more in a ‘THERE IS NO ESCAPE FROM EACH OTHERS BULLSHIT’ sort of way and Amity loves it ngl

Members of the Joy Family working in Generalized Healthcare, but Pokemon Healthcare specifically is an unspoken, non-concrete tradition that's carried on for centuries. Nurse Joys beget Nurse Joys, child wants to emulate mother or father, and on and on the cycle goes until the Family Name is so tied in to the Healthcare System that they're practically synonymous.
People even assume 'Nurse Joy,' is a title, not a family name. It's become a trope, but WHY. How did this come to arise? Short answer: colonialism.
A slightly longer answer: during the third attempted annexation of Saijikara through the mountain range by members of an early Sinnoh, the ancestor of the modern Joy Family was instrumental in pushing back against the invading forces of the Sinnoah fighters—not through military action exactly—but through medical work.
Legend goes that the Joy family, simple farmers at that time (the highest of the low class for Saijikaran society, not counting the footsoldiers, who were also held in high regard and income during times of conflict) and their land was a far cry from what it is today - what are now manicured gardens were once wilds where animal grazed and where foods were grown and where hidden entrances to caverns carved by time into the rocks lurked. When the war broke out in the Kiyose, The Joys, while not fighters, took up the cause for their emperor and their land.
They invited troops into their home and land to establish their foothold and hold the line; they fed them from their stores, entertained them as any guest, and held their tongues—prepared for the worst when the armies clashed. When fighting inevitably broke, victory seemed hopeless. The Saijikari were starkly outnumbered, and the Sinnoans knew it.
But what the Sinnoah soldiers hadn't anticipated was that, in living on the land for generations, the Joy's knew every hidden cavern and entrance to the underground caves - they had stocked the cold, dark areas with supplies and lanterns, and when the horns blew at the sight of Pokemon flying in the distance, ducted down into them, waiting to play their role. When men and Pokemon fell - the Joys emerged, clutching their lanterns, to bring the fallen into the dark caves to heal and protect them from the war raging above. Fighting raged for weeks, but because of the efforts of the Joy, the invading forces were widdled down, and victory was won - though it cost them their home in the process.
So impressed by the Loyalty and the Ingenuity of the Family and grateful for the changing of the tide, which played an instrumental role in dissuading the invading forces from continuing the efforts (creating legends of soldiers that would fall, only to rise again like an unstoppable army of the dead in Sinnoh) - The Emporer at the time raised their status, making them nobility - the only nobility in that corner of the region, and rewarding them with double their previous land - repayment for the land rendered useless by the battling (which later became the Forgotten Minka)
Then time passed, and more noble marriages and legendary individuals were inspired by the legends of the Joy Healers and the family name. Thus, the Legend was born and subsequently forgotten. Becoming a nurse or doctor became normal, expected even, and eventually, the reason why the clan is marked with the Lantern was lost—the reason the Minka was abandoned—and where the stream met the lake.
