Took a nap this morning and had a fairly realistic dream that I was traveling internationally - to China, I think. Midway through the journey, one that involved several legs of take offs and landings, I realized I'd looked in on my parents sleeping before I left, but I hadn't told them good-bye. I worried as I disembarked the plane that I should call them, and started a bus journey, thinking except for the signage with different text, this didn't look too different from California. And then worrying how my phone was going to work, to call them from another country.

And then my bladder woke me up, and I thought oh, it was a dream, I'm still home and don't have to worry about it.

It wasn't until I finished my business that I remembered I can't call my parents. My dad's been gone for almost 15 years, my mom for almost twice that. I know grief never goes completely away, but I haven't shed tears in a very long time.

I've outlived my mom by six years. It's weird to think of.
