1st two photos: I chose those two photos to show how all youth aren't trouble makers and how society makes them seem. These two (my little cousins) made it through high school despite all of the struggles and stereotypes they are faced with.
3rd photo:It just shows a day of fun for they youth. they are came together for an open house and they are playing basketball from the bounce house place. They don't need to be out in the streets to have fun.
4th photo: shows even if they can't get out of the house to play basketball and do anything they'll sit in the house and play the game. It shows how they are gamers, like to play basketball and aren't a product of their society.
5th photo: I chose that picture because I went through a lot to finally graduate from college. It was so many times I wanted to give up but I wouldn't let myself do it. I paved the way for my younger siblings to make it and I feel I'm a big reason why they do it. I'm doing everything for them and I WILL NOT let them fall short of anything! It's still good kids out here

The purpose of this organization is to show that students are against violence (SAVE) They focus on the crime convention, conflict management and service projects. They also provide positive peer influence in violence prevention efforts. It originated in North Carolina and they are offered to elementary, middle and high school students. It's also for college students. There are many youth involved and they do many different activities and service projects such as non violence pledge drives, fundraisers, child abuse awareness and adopting a family!

Family and Friends
The topic was Family and Friends and we focused on what influences the family has and what influence the friends had. The person I interviewed was 24 years old. So in the interview he gave his view on the youth now and the difference between how they were when he was growing up and how they are now. I thought that he would say the things he did about the youth now because it seems that everybody has the same outlook on the youth now. It was an interesting topic and I learned some things from the person I interviewed. We are three years apart, so we kind of was in the same era but we weren't.

The article is focused on a young man named Rodney Stallworth and he's telling about the juvenile center and the things that happened inside and also his story. He used to get in trouble on purpose because he knew that if he did he would be able to stay in there and out of the streets. He knew if he went back to the streets he'd be more likely to start back selling drugs. "The number of incident reports filed rose 25 percent from 2010 to 2011 across the state's juvenile justice system to nearly 8,000, while some of the more violent categories of incidents increased even more." That was a big increase and it wasn't good at all. In that detention center over the years so many incidents happened because the youth were just out of control. The handcuffs were last resort and they had to use them over 40 times. It would be thematic because episodic framing tends to elicit individualistic rather than societal attributions of responsibilities and in this article it is doing the exact opposite. I would reframe the narrative by actually talking about what positive things are happening in the detention center. Are they kids actually getting help? For the most part are they doing what they need to do to get better as a person. Instead of focusing on the negative things i'd focus on the positive things.

Is there something missing from US Education? What can we do to make kids more aware of the world and prepare them for the global competition that awaits them.
"Governing-through-crime policies also remind us that we live in an era that breaks young people, corrupts the notion of justice, and saturates the minute details of everyday life with the threat if not yet the reality of violence." I know this doesn't match with what my article says but I think that because of the lack of education is one reason why it is so much violence in the world. I do think that it is symbolic of the youths relationship with society.

Job Prospects shrink for Michigan teens, Youth Adults
The main point of the article was let people know how the unemployment rate was for the youth. I think they really did a good job at getting their point across. I chose this article because the news actually wrote about it so it was put out to the world. I agreed on a lot of things that the article said. One thing that stood out to me was "With fewer jobs in our state and so many experienced workers searching for jobs, the opportunities for youth are diminished." That is so true because we the youth are inexperienced we won't get the job because most companies don't want to train someone when they can always hire someone that already know how to do that same job. I'm actually experiencing that now. I recently graduated in May and I am having the hardest time trying to find employment. I'm 22 years with a bachelors degree and it's hard. I've worked on campus so of course I don't have the experience the real jobs want and it's becoming more and more frustrating everyday. I also agree with when they said "The lack of so called starter jobs means darker horizons for Michigan's young people who lack training and education." If people aren't willing to train the youth then how are they suppose to get the experience to actually work?

The article is talking about the unemployment rates from the 1970's up to now and it's also talking about how it's not just about age but it's about race and gender also. Younger workers always experience higher unemployment rates which I feel is unfair. The message I got from the article was just to let others know about the unemployment rate and it actually shows how much a difference it is between youths and adults. They range the ages from 16-24 (which has the highest unemployment rates) then it goes to show how much of a difference it is between different races and same ages. The article goes in depth about a lot of stages where people were unemployed including the recession. It was very informal. It's applicable to the youth as a group and also as a sub-group. The authors breaks it down a lot. Very informative article.

This picture is old, I wanted to get a picture of the kids playing basketball outside but because of the weather and rain I couldn't get the picture. But this is a picture of my little brothers best friend #11 playing basketball for his high school team. He goes to Renaissance and they were playing Cass Tech (My old school)! But this picture just shows that the youths aren't always out in the street they actually have good enough grades to join a basketball team for your school. These were freshman playing so these youth are between the ages of 14-16. It just shows that they spend their time doing productive things that'll help them out in the future!

Quote
"Our generation is supposed to be known as a wild one anyway. Its been the wildest one yet"
For some reason this stood out to me the most because this quote just makes it seems like since everybody else is being wild or having casual sex then I can too. That is what I thought while reading this. Just because the generation and known for being wild doesn't mean that you have to be wild also and participate in the activities that others are participating in.
I got this from Twenge GenMe- Prude meets Crude and I think this answers Are casual sexual experiences becoming normalized in some way.

I chose this article because it actually shows that youth aren't all "bad" or don't do things with their life. Also because it's from my school. lol But it shows that these young men worked hard from a young age to succeed and not just make it to college but also play college basketball.

"2012 Big Ten Conference & Tournament Champions"
The guys in this picture all attend Michigan State University. The age ranges between 18-24 (Freshman - Senior). This pictures shows many different races. To name a few they’re African Americans, Caucasians, Bi Racial , Asian, Hispanic and Lantino.

The reason why I chose this picture is because it shows that not all youth or “millenials" just sit around on twitter and facebook ,and be lazy. This pictures goes againt what Joel Sein was saying about today’s youth.

Now a days the youth are heavy "GAMERS" the first thing they usually want to do is play the game. As soon as they get out of school, wake up, before they go to bed. My brother is 14 years old and he lives for his xbox and playstation. I chose this picture because it's one of the most anticipated games. The things that makes them a subculture is because they stick together. Even though they may argue over xbox live. lol (i've witnessed it and it's hilarious) they are one almost. Then they have conventions and things like that. The subculture is located at different events around the world and online. Participants are all races, genders, and ages starting from around 8 or 9 years old and don't really have a specific cut off age.

This is one quote that stood out to me from Emerging Adulthood. “To be a young American today is to experience both excitement and uncertainty, wide-open possibility and confusion, new freedoms and new fears".

Youth and Unemployment
This chart shows how youth's unemployment has risen over the pass years. It's higher than regular unemployment. It's harder for youth to find jobs now a days!
