News: SnK x ATTACK Laundry Detergent Collaboration

Original Release Date: December 2018 Retail Price: TBA

Japanese Laundry Detergent brand “Attack” (Attaku) is collaborating with SnK, under the pun “ATTACK on Titan!”

The collaboration will consist of a “official Survey Corps Detergent” product whose name and slogan will be determined by fans on social media. Levi is currently the first visual reveal (Based on his season 3 group visual look), with two more on the way.

I do have a tendency to, not lie about although I do have a tendency to think of it that way XDD, but seriously downplay what I do.

Like, the quality of the Frau magazine images that I'm linking and reading off actually looks like this:

Some of it I've extrapolated by figuring what the characters should be based on context and through reverse translation (not completely trustworthy here because I think OP was working off chinese translations), and some of it I did go out and do a search and hope that someone would actually have transcribed the text so that I can confirm it (for copyright infringement reasons Japanese people will actually give very little of this verbatim)

Which is also why in spite of the source being so apparently available you'll find that very few (if any?) people have taken a crack at re-translating it. It's literally a Wall of blurry Text that you'll actually have to reverse engineer, which means you have to understand enough and also have enough of a proficiency in the language to have some candidates lined up to have a crack at what those blurry blurry pictograms could be.

The smartpass Goodnight. Sweet dreams, dear. Act II: Levi text too is frankly the hardest text I've ever had to translate, like seriously, what the hell is the writer trying to say at all at all. Again, the source page when the site was up was freely available for anyone to browse, and again, I don't think there's any other fan translations that I'm aware of, and I know I've said that it's difficult, but I don't think I've expressed properly that it's that difficult.

(I'm afraid I didn't know the ways of archiving webpages at the time, but I still have the source text, and if anyone is interested in it I could put it up)

And finally? Isayama's writing is also just straight up off the wall, unconventional at best, making up completely new ways to say things at worst. It's not actually standard or correct japanese in places. Anecdotally I've heard and I've also seen on the net japanese persons declining to interpret what Isayama actually means because hell if they know either. And like, I've translated what Isayama has said like his Himeanole blog post and his favourite chapters and it genuinely has been a ride. This makes the smugness of some people arguing over the correctness of various translations and the certainty of what they think is the correct interpretation (with what qualification, dare I add, for some) even funnier. Don't know how many people if any are even aware of this one.

But, it's like one of those posts or videos or something where somebody does something and somebody else follows up with a detailed explanation of why this normal to incredible-looking thing that this person is doing is actually even more insane than it looks to the plebeian’s eye because of x, y and z, and coming from someone in the same field who knows the whats and how-tos about it, what's the "anybody with some skill in the field can do this" and what's the "holey moley how" parts of it.

But in this game of "who can bullshit their ability more", maybe I should just toot my own horn a little better sometimes XDD

I watched fully the 2 Attack on Titan Live-Action movies again past 2 days and still I LOVE CAPTAIN SHIKISHIMA! (ᗒᗨᗕ)

One of my Attack on Titan Cosplay Dream, is still to have a cosplay group where someone cosplay as Shikishima and another as Levi, while I’m (Main Storyline) Hange! (≖ ‿ ≖)

Can do a short skit of Hange drooling over Shikishima especially knowing he’s a Titan Shifter, and Levi go all jealous, trying to pull Hange away (by her ponytail!) while declaring she already have a Titan at hand! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Okay, back to trying to write out those stories from Attack on Titan Short Stories Booklets! ༼༼;; ;°;ਊ°;༽

The two heroes of SC finally speak. The SC Commander, Erwin Smith rests his tall stature deep into the sofa, with expectant blue eyes awaiting the start of the interview. The color of his eyes resemble the blue hue of the vast skies, symbolizing the desire for freedom shared by humanity.

The other SC member, Captain Levi, is seated, with both his legs propped up on another chair. At first look, he seems bored. However, the sharp glint in his eyes radiates an unapproachable aura. At last, the time to interview these two most vital personnel in SC has finally arrived.

Journalist (J) : Thanks to both of you for sparing the time for this interview, despite your busy schedules.

Levi (L): Cut the crap and ask what you want to ask already.

Erwin (E): This is a way to promote us. As long as this can contribute to the SC, I will answer any kind of question.

J: Thank you very much, Commander.

L: Did you know? This boring interaction was all planned by Erwin in the first place!

E: That’s right. After all, even the MP would wish for more understanding between average citizens and soldiers. I am really glad that everyone accomplished their part in making this happen. This has increased the support for the military.

In the previous part of this interview, we were able to learn more about the SC commander’s and captain’s responsibilities and private lives.

In this latter part, they will be placed in two different rooms and interviewed individually. We’ll try to obtain information on their impressions towards each other and listen to their true feelings in a private setting…

Journalist (J): Well then, Captain Levi, I invite you to do your individual interview first.

Levi (L): …Do you think by doing this, I’ll give out information on SC activities that will be useful to our image?

J: As someone bearing the moniker “Humanity’s Strongest,” you already give enough hope to humanity on your own.

L: So you want to ask about how to kill a titan? Many people in this world would say that this is useless knowledge.

J: What kind of training did you undergo to become so strong? Are there things one must remember while on the battlefield? Perhaps this kind of information will be useful for future recruits to study.

Then Eren appeared, our most important task has become to return to the District Shiganshina. [Hanji has repeatedly emphasized the word “survey”, in other words, “exploration”. What do other soldiers think about that——

——I see. Everyone thinks so and follows her like this. Moblit:Yes. The superior,  no matter how weird their action is, no, I think it should be, because she’s weird, we need to support her.

[On the other hand, for the hero ,contrary to Hanji, who is good at killing titans, what does he see about that?]

——We heard you and Hanji fought together for a long time, didn’t you?

Levi: Just a troublesome but inescapable relationship.  Each other just…survived with good luck. For experienced survey veterans, maybe everyone is like this.

——What kind of person?

Levi: you’ll see, shitty glasses. Talking long, and with thought suddenly flying to the direction of three days after. An abnormal

——That sounds sharp.

Levi:… But if we want to change something, that kind is indispensable. Keen mind indeed, so is Erwin… But that guy has kindness which Erwin doesn’t have.

——Kindness?

Levi: Talking about her love for titans, that kind of things. People in the world said she was crazy…　Since guys like Eren appeared,  what she did would be seen as reasonable.

[“Communicating with someone who have ate comrades, I can’t do such things. With these words, Levi finished his talk. From his tone, we can see the division of labor in the Corps between the two is clear]

Hanji: Ah! This time I really want to take you with me! But secrets are secrets. I’m so sorry!

Among today’s survey soldiers, there are someone who said that if wanting to change, one need to  give up something. If you want to defeat monsters, you must first be incarnated as monsters and abandon human nature.

So did Hanji abandon their human nature? From what we see, it’s not the case.

What Hanji gave up, was other’s recognition, or the desire to be seen as a hero, which is nature for people who  fight with their life. Those soldiers who gambled their lives would naturally aspire to pursue. In exchange, she hold the intense will to explore the truth of the world, which will indeed be a breakthrough for change After hearing the titans appeared, Hanji immediately set out with Eren. The “wings of freedom” on her back , bathed in the light,  came into view like expanded wings in the sun.

PS1: What Levi said about he and Hange: a troublesome but inescapable relationship, its Japanese original is 腐れ縁, suggesting some annoying “fatal bond”. It seems to be often used in some puppy love manga. I find it cute of Levi to be so childish. O(∩_∩)O It also make me smile that he felt her kindness through her love to titans which he dislikes so much.

PS2: Moblit is really like mom. And the journalist’s comment at the end about Hanji seems like a contrast to what Armin said~~~///(^_^).

I finished the translation anyway. In the translation, I call Hanji “she” or “they” freely, hoping that will not confuse Hanji with the survey soldiers. Since I’m not familiar with English, any suggestions for revisions are welcomed.

guess who got to meet Hajime Isayama :)

here’s what we talked about:

he was so kind and humble! he asked why I loved Hanji this much and said he’s glad he drew a character that people can love to that extent (I told him Hanji is like my 3rd parent…) - he said in the beginning, he thought it would be fun to add a weird character to the story, but as events proceeded, Hanji became more and more duty-focused, serious and reliable. i said one of my favorite scenes is when hanji is very tired and shakes in stress in the military hq, he said he’s really surprised i like it and the other Hanji in the sign also liked this scene. i told him i wanted to hug Hanji during that scene and he understood. i believe he really got what Hanji meant to me and that’s why Hanji’s smile is different in the illustration he made me compared to the one he made for the other Hanji fan.i asked if Hanji’s death was planned from the beginning, he said no, he only planned for Armin, Mikasa and Eren’s ending, but the role of the adults in SnK was to guide those three, tell them about the world and transmit their mission onto them. basically Hanji was meant to give out their duty to the next generation. which was why Hanji had to end up that way. i think it’s beautiful and very much like them, believing in their values and something greater than themselves until the very end
