Things that the dark academia community should acknowledge more:

The kind of universities that the community tends to admire (Ivy League, Oxbridge) are very difficult to get into, even if you are very good at your subject you could still be rejected. These universities are prestigious and while they are working to have a more diverse student and staff body they are still largely white, middle/upper class and from privileged backgrounds. While these universities historical buildings are beautiful and the research they do is often very important it is also important to remember that these universities used to be mainly male and that some of them have a problematic history with slavery. People who go to these universities have to work very hard often and while it is an achievement we should not consider all other universities as bad, this is a form of snobbism and it reflects on those who have it as ignorant and the opposite of intellectual which I assume is what most people in the community want to be.

Dark academia should be what we think it is. I’ve seen some reading lists for dark academia and a bit like university I don’t think books are more than you make of them , what I mean is that you could read the Iliad and all of Shakespeare’s works and not really gain anything from them and that’s fine , we don’t have to enjoy the same books and forcing ourselves to read books because we consider them highly intellectual is fairly pointless if we don’t actually find them interesting, saying you’ve read a book is not the same as saying you’ve read a book and being able to explain why it really interested you. I’m not saying that these very classic and respected books can’t interest you but if they don’t that’s not unusual and you should read something else.

Remember to be yourself.

Honestly I hate my university, it is modern and boring and I worked too hard to find out that my university accepted people who didn’t even know the basics of the subject.
