Twine notes in Harlowe: Choosing names and pronouns

So, this was something really cool I ran across doing some research and I thought I’d share it. There are, of course, multiple languages you can write in for Twine. I’m doing Harlowe, as it’s most beginner-friendly and really seems to have everything I need. (One day, when I finish my Javascript/CSS studies, I may play with SugarCube or even Snowman but today is not that day XD)

Anyway, my current project is setting up what is basically a dating sim featuring one of my favorite romantics - Genesis. I am… roughly a fourth of the way through, if things go the way I think they will, so I’m only sharing the WIP with my betas but suffice to say I’m really excited.

And I wanted to share the coding for letting the player choose their own name (pretty easy to look up, but worth putting out there) as well as one way to set things up for choosing their own pronouns. Under the cut, because it’s long.

I feel really bad, my mental health has really deteriorated lately, and well, a terrible thing happened in my family today. I won't be blogging, but I will be writing At the Mercy of Hatred and I will finish it one day.

Changed the prologue a little bit. Added a new character and RO for Butcher's story. (it is Sarah). Added choose of gender for Butcher in prologue.

I am not sure whether I have improved the text or not. I tried my best.

Organisation in At the Mercy of Hatred World

That's U12. This is so far a small list of important organizations and beyond that will be involved in At the Mercy of Hatred. Everything will change as I write, as I'm just a co-author and a simple helper. There are a couple of things we haven't mentioned yet, as we'll return to them later.

The World Organization of Superheroes is a global alliance that unites multiple superhero organizations from various countries. It coordinates the collective activities of superheroes from around the world.

The Federation's Superhero Organization is one of the main organizations within the Federation.

The Superpowers Regulatory Agency is a government agency that monitors and regulates the activities of superheroes in the East Federation, requiring them to register and comply with its rules.

The Order of the Fang is a mercenary organization. It includes both superpowered and non-superpowered individuals as mercenaries.

Not an organization, but also plays a big role in the universe.

Dark Web is a group of people who fight against the regime by exposing its misdeeds by hacking into various government computers.

This is not an official release of the demo. It's a very small piece of the prologue of the Butcher's story. Since my (DarkRose) comp broke and I lost all my data and right now I'm writing from my brother's computer, I'll be releasing small portions of demos until the December and official release.

I just have my doubts about this story. I'm going back and forth about whether or not to write it. I won't be writing on the blog as I don't have the energy to blog yet.

At the Mercy of Hatred (WIP)

At the Mercy of Hatred is a standalone work-in-progress interactive superhero novel by DarkRose and U12.

You will play as a vigilante seeking revenge for the deaths of their family and friends, while also uncovering the identity and motive of the murderer, and also as an antihero, a former agent of the Superpowers Regulatory Agency, who was accused of murder they did not commit, and who has returned to take revenge against their former friends and employer.

Synopsis:

The Butcher Story: I’m the most wanted person in the East Federation. They want me for a murder I didn’t commit. Everyone I considered close friends betrayed me. They thought I was going to disappear, but here I am. I’m back in the High City, and this time I’m here to get revenge on those who have wronged me.

The Vigilante Story: I have nothing left. My old life, my family, my friends - all gone. Agents from the Superpowers Regulatory Agency took them away from me, right infront my eyes, and there was nothing I could do. I couldn’t save them. All that’s left is a burning hatred and a desire for revenge, and I will find the truth about why they were taken away and for what reason.

 Features:

play as male, female, or nonbinary as well as trans;

full character customization;

choose your power for Butcher or power/powers for vigilante;

play as chaotic neutral or chaotic evil characters;

Butcher’s ROs:

Jester (cis female/male): ex-assassin, joined the Butcher after they defeated her/him in battle;

Noise (transmasc nonbinary / transfemme nonbinary): hacker of the Butcher team; they’re helping Butcher because Butcher saved their parents;

Poison (cis female/male; trans man/woman): ex-superhero. Seeing as the superhero community isn’t so perfect, they decided to join Butcher;

Baron / Arthur Weeks (cis male): equips the team with money, transportation and weapons.

The Vigilante RO’s:

Frost (cis female/male, nonbinary): thief and leader of a thieving gang;

Abigail Day / Firestar (cis female): novice superhero, looking for her mom, who’s missing

Neo (cis male/female, trans man/woman, nonbinary,transmasc nonbinary / transfemme nonbinary): a hacker who continues the work of their parents, who are in prison;

Psyche (cis female): agent of the Superpowers Regulatory Agency and leader of Unit Zero;

Secret ROs: Dragon and Frostfire: secret weapons in the hands of the government;

Jester — ex-assassin and killer of Butcher's team: RO's Info

She/He joined the Butcher's team after multiple failed assassination attempts. She/He was influenced by Butcher's ideas and, as a result, left the Order.

Jester was one of the best assasin in the history of the Order. Got her/his nickname because she/he was always making jokes.

Age: 35 years old

Gender: cis female or cis male

Sexual/Romantic Orientation: bisexul // aromantic

Appearance: Jester is a tall woman/man (185 cm / 6' 0.8") with tanned skin that has many freckles on it. Her/his wavy brown hair is dyed a dark purple and short-cropped. Wears sportswear with sneakers on a regular basis.

Likes: her/his knives, home-cooked food, training

Dislikes: injustice and dishonesty, being bored, isolation

MC2 is male. This is not the final version, just an outline and first version. It's MC1's encounter with a supporting character

Butcher knocked a child down to the ground. He didn't think a little brat like that would fight so hard. It was admirable to see that.

He walked over to the child still lying on the ground and bent down to look into his blue eyes. Something about the child evoked Alan's memory of her. About a girl who fought with the same ferocity.

"You're a pretty good fighter, given your size." Alan said with a smirk on his face. "And where did you learn to fight like that?"

Writing Update #0.2

We apologize for not blogging anything. We've been very busy. So it's U12 with you today.

We finished the first part of the prologue today. It's now at 10,000 words. And we were left with the dilemma of whether to do a romance between the two main characters. I want to, but Dark is against it.
