Ace shrugged. “It’s alright. I’ll figure something out.” She looked around to see if she could find anything that looked like what she was looking for. She looked back to her and smiled. “I’ll try that and if it doesn’t work then I’ll see if the grocery store has it.” She didn’t remember grocery stores having good selections of those but it wouldn’t hurt to check. “Thank you.”

“I can walk with you if you like?” Danika offered. “Two heads are better than one and all that?” she said with a smile.

                    He tries not to let it show but the mention of Summerdale sends a soft pang of guilt through his gut. “I, uhm…” for the first time in a long while he doesn’t know what to say. “Well, there’re lots of nice shops around town,” he settles on. “I’m sure you’re gonna find some good stuff. Are you staying anywhere?”

Danika can feel that she’s disconcerted him, and feels bad for it. She’s not trying to create sympathy for herself. She still mourns the loss of family and friends she had there but she doesn’t allow herself to dwell on it. The horror of it all threatens to overwhelm her sometimes. She can practically feel what they all felt when they died. And every time she or someone else brings it up, she can sense the inherent sadness in the other person, magnified in her own soul. 

She smiles, glad that he recovers quickly enough. “I’ll manage,” she nods. “And yes, I’m rooming with another witch...Avery?” she says. She’s not quite sure of who knows who around here yet.

“Sorry, I don’t,” Danika said, making an apologetic face towards the redhead. She had been in town a couple months already, but Danika hadn’t done much exploring. She frequented the same places for the most part: grocery store, work, pub, cafe.... “I’m pretty sure there is a flower shop around.” The brunette looked around as if she could magically spot it. “And if it comes down to it, the grocery store might have flowers and/or candles?” 

She was glad she had gotten her key to her room and that the storm had calmed down. It had been crazy. She still didn’t know about this place but she had nowhere else to go so she had to figure this all out. So many supernatural creatures here it was hard to get used to. She had figured out where a few things were. She looked around the streets. “Do you know where I can get some flowers?” That might help with all the strange scents. “Or maybe candles?”

“We… we do.” He nodded slowly, though that was usually left to the other detectives, like Dean, for example, who he personally found to be much more approachable than he was. “Hey, I know I’m a witch and all but I can’t jinx anything, it’s just me being realistic.” He shrugged, but there was a smile there. “Fall asleep? Not a romance movie sort of person then, huh?”

Danika shrugged. “I mean, if they have it set up as nicely as they have everything else set up, that room is gonna be pretty comfy,” she pointed out. “Cozy seating, lights off, alcohol, and the late hour? I’m not a resident anymore, I don’t have to avoid sleep.”

alexasawyer:

“Thank you. I like it too. It’s more original than my first name. Though, Danika is very beautiful, much like you,” she complimented. “So, what do you normally do at parties like this? Because I’ve seen you smile and I actually want to make it happen again, so we have to do something to keep it on your face.”

“Oh? What’s your first name?” Danika asked, cocking her head to the side quizzically.  “And thank you,” she smiled, accepting the compliment. The smile turned into a blush, spreading over her cheeks as Alexa continued. “I don’t know, I’ve never really been to a party like this,” she said, shrugging. “Though that’s very nice of you to say.”

Sierra blushed and smiled.  “So are you!  You’re gorgeous,” she told her before glancing around the room. “Is there some kind of rule that you have to be gorgeous if you’re going to be supernatural?”

“Thank you!” Danika exclaimed. “It would seem that way. Or is it the being supernatural that makes people gorgeous?” Danika asked, turning the question back to the other woman with a playful raise of her eyebrows.

“No thank you.” she replied, and she thought about Elias who she’d rather go after instead. “Who needs them anyway, right?” she replied with a grin, “How about we drink and eat sweets?”

Danika caught a hint of affection flash through Livia’s person, and it definitely caught her interest. She couldn’t be sure of what she had felt, though, so she kept her questions to herself. Instead, she nodded. “Those sound like wonderful ideas. And honestly what I would have been doing if I stayed home anyway,” she admitted.

Looking up at the newcomer he chuckled softly, “Why not stay? The more the merrier.”

“I think you look far too cozy to be disturbed,” Danika demurred with a shake of her head.

“Nah, it’s no problem. You owe me nothing.” Waving off the idea that Danika owed her anything for the drink. Mara had definitely had her fair share of drinks and missing one wouldn’t kill her. “Plus think of how awkward our first meeting was if anything just count this as payback.” Trying to make light of the situation and she smiled brightly. “That is true. Everything around here looks mighty fine if I do say so myself.” Winking playfully at some people passing by before turning back to Danika. “In all seriousness though this is one of the most lit memorials I’ve ever been to and that’s saying a lot. Usually they’re all pretty dark and depressing, but this one is just alive. It’s a little odd if we’re being honest.” 

She smiled again, indicating her gratitude with another sip. “Thank you anyway,” she said. “And remember, I told you that was by far not the most awkward meeting I’ve had. You were tame in comparison,” Danika teased. Though from what Danika could feel, the episode wasn’t weighing on Mara too heavily. “Yeah, dark and depressing was clearly not what they were going for here,” she commented. Danika had felt a few emotions that were decidedly not happy, but for the most part, people seemed to be enjoying themselves. “I didn’t know the woman who died. Maybe something like this is what she would have wanted?” The details Danika had heard about the story were rather fuzzy.

“Snow storms in Hollow Grove? Not really,” Amy admitted. “We get snow, but–” She looked out the window again, inches of snow piling up on the windowsill. “–not like this.” The lights flickered again and Amy looked up. “The snow and the wind might mess with the power lines. We should look for candles and flashlights.”

Danika nodded. She still couldn’t help but wonder if the power lines were often affected. Amy had suggested going for the candles and flashlights mighty quick, after all. “It’s February,” she remarked, throwing a look out the window again. She was half speaking to herself. “Maybe the kitchen might have some?” she suggested.

“No time, I was working.” Callie said with a shrug of her shoulders. Truth be told, this wasn’t so much of a priority for her, but maybe that was because she didn’t have much intent on coming. Now that she was here, however, it was a different story, “At least it’s better than it just straight up falling off.”

"Oh what do you do?” Danika asked, trying to be friendly. And also trying to steer the conversation away from the dress. There wasn’t anything obviously wrong with it. It was the girl’s discomfort that drew the attention, or at least Danika’s attention anyway.

When the song had come on, Danika had been unable to remain still. She liked to dance in the privacy of her own home, or even sometimes in her lab. Here, though, the beat entered her, and she didn’t even try to resist. She allowed herself to get lost in the beat, feeling the bass thrumming inside her like a heartbeat. 

When she bumped into someone, her mouth opened automatically to apologize, but the words died in her throat as someone else’s lips landed on hers. A very female someone. Face trapped between two hands, Danika stood frozen for a moment, processing what was happening. When she realized that she had started kissing the other woman back--when had that happened?--Danika reared back with a start. “I-I’m sorry!” she stammered absurdly. Because what was she apologizing for? The other woman had kissed her! Blinking, she recognized Alex. 

The alcohol created the perfect foggy haze on the dance floor as strobes of neon lights flittered from wall to wall. The DJ was playing something with a heavy bass drop and bodies collided with each other. Alex felt the blissful numbness she always looked for during Valentine’s Day, and today, couldn’t even feel her heart beating.

She collided with someone and as she turned to apologize, she thought to herself fuck it, and cupped their face in her hands. She didn’t care if they pushed away or pulled into it, she just needed to feel connected to another person for a moment.

Danika shivered involuntarily. She nodded at the blonde. “That seems like a good idea. Is that likely to happen? Is this something that...happens often?” 

“I…Hate this.” Amy said, looking out the window as the lights flickered again. The snowfall was rapidly increasing and sticking to the ground. It looked to be several inches high already and she sighed. “Should we go find some candles in case the power goes out?”

alexasawyer:

“I’m glad that I can read those social cues then.” She smiled when she asked what her name was. “I’m Alexa, What about you? I’m pretty sure it’s a much more beautiful name than the one we were discussing.”

“Well Alexa certainly is,” Danika replied. She didn’t joke that just about anything was better than Ty. “A lovely name for a lovely girl. I’m Danika.”

sierra-rider:

“Right?” Sierra laughed.  “Everyone in this town looks like they just stepped off the Oscars red carpet or something.”  That was one of the things she’d noticed when she first moved to Hollow Grove, but after a few months at least she didn’t feel like she was being assaulted by attractive people everywhere she went.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if some of them had at one point,” Danika remarked. People as beautiful as this didn’t just spend their whole lives in places like Hollow Grove or Summerdale. “You are more than a match for them, though,” she added, giving the woman next to her a smile.

tejsatinder:

“I’m not being difficult, I’m being realistic.” He scoffed, glancing at the girl beside him since at least he knew who she was. “No, not really my scene but everyone down at the station pushed me to go, so… here I am.” He sighed, “Sure, I mean, how bad could it possibly be?”

“Well it’s a good opportunity to get to know people. Don’t policemen have to build ties with the community and all that?” she pointed out. “I feel like you’re going to jinx things if you start talking like that,” she teased. How bad could it possibly be? Danika had learned at the hospital that that was one of the worst things that you could say, as it almost always predicated a big emergency. “I heard they have movies somewhere. That might be a tame place to start. Though it might make me fall asleep,” she laughed.

“But look at him.” she replied with a grin, “That could be your soul mate right there.” she teased with a chuckle as she watched the man dancing across the room, doing some kind of shimmy into a limbo. “I mean, flexible.”

“If you think he’s so wonderful, you go after him,” Danika replied, folding her arms firmly over her chest. “I am looking at him, and I can say with almost absolute certainly that he is not my soulmate.” She wasn’t sure she really believed in those anymore anyway.
