Lockwood and Co.
The Screaming Staircase
5/5
Summary: Lucy Carlyle is a talented operative in the ghost pandemic, The Problem, and has left her hometown to go to London. She landed herself a job as an agent at Lockwood and Co. alongside two other kids her age. Anthony Lockwood is the owner of the company and has fantastic style and sight, George Cubbins does the research and has a knack for experiments, and Lucy has Hearing, Touch, and is sensitive to ghosts.
After a botched case, Lockwood and Co. try to solve a murder case and are offered a dangerous job by a well-known member of society.
Trigger Warnings: death, murder, the supernatural, blood, food
Warning!! There are spoilers lurking beyond the "keep reading"!
Favourite Scenes:
Lucy's Interview. Absolutely ICONIC; it's spooky, it's tense, and it's the first time Lucy and the readers meet Lockwood and George. The scene made me so excited to reread the series!
Lockwood asking the burglar if they wanted tea while searching through their things. Everyone is so sassy, and I love it.
Lucy setting Annie Ward's ghost on her murderer, Mr. Fairfax. That's the justice Annie deserved.
Lucy hearing the skull in the jar speak for the first time. Spooky and makes the reader excited for the next book in the series.
Lucy being happy in the end with the company and wants to be in the kitchen celebrating. Ah it made me so happy for her. :)
Times that Make me Believe in Locklyle:
"Lockwood's praise still rang loudly in my ears. I was too elated to go straight to sleep."
"I soon learned that when he smiled at me like that, it was hard not to agree with him."
"I looked away, embarrassed by the intensity of his gaze."
He was badly ghost touched and went to go check on Lucy before he sought medical attention.
Uncomfy Moments:
When Inspector Barnes called Lockwood's collection of ghost catching/chasing instruments from different cultures "foreign mumbo-jumbo" and snorted. Bro. Do you think your way of hunting ghosts is the only way and others are invalid??
When they found the remains of the boy who died at Combe Carey Hall. :( I feel so bad for the little guy.
Quotes:
1. "Can I offer you some tea while you ransack our place?" Lockwood said politely."
2. "I saw that.
What? Nothing happened.
Precisely. Where was his slap in the chops? Where was his firm shaking? There's double standards at work here.
Don't worry. I'll be sure to slap him next time.
Great...Though that means you'll probably kick me awake."
3. "The past is for ghosts. We've all done things we regret. It's ahead of us that counts."
Comments: I loved the sarcasm and the way the characters interact. I read this as a kid from the public library but decided to buy the rest of the series as the books came out. I recently bought the first two and am currently rereading the series. I have to say the books have held up my expectations and love for the characters, author, and plot.

…dang 😔
…y’know I probably should have asked this first, but do you like egg she ran? I don’t want to continue bashing him if you like his music.
Ooo do you cut your own hair? If so how do you do it? Hope you find the length/ style you like :))
Tbh I want to cut my hair again bc when it gets shoulder length, it’s no longer curly. I really want that fluffy, middle part hair that was popular in the 90s but I would look like a medieval boy who gets on the neighbor’s nerves or like bling bling boy from Johnny test but with curly hair.
Have to work tomorrow 😔
GOOD NIGHT AND GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR HAIR!
[…]
You were kidding about egg she ran releasing another song, right?
🧍♂️
How are you today?
my deepest apologies but.... no
im doin okay
contemplating cutting my hair more bc i hate it rn rip </3

😭😭 these are amazing.
Just a bunch of (selected) sketches I’ve done in the past year for the Mirror Visitor saga (if you don’t know the story then; yes, it is as it’s pictured. All flowers and coziness. Trust me.) From newest (september) to the very first sketchpages I’ve ever done

I would make you a cup if I could!!
I'm listening to The Lark Ascending rn with a GORGEOUS sunset in Australia. But it was my playlist on shuffle, so it could be Nicki Minaj to Bach to Willow.
What have you been listening to on repeat lately?
and YAYYY last day of school! That's such a great feeling, the first night of summer break. School was really rough this year, so you deserve some time off. Hope you enjoy it! Are you going on any trips or have any thing planned for the summer?
Have a good night! Hope you have sweet dreams.
>:) I made a hot chai tea latte, listening to music, watching people's windows on WindowSwap, and writing thank you notes. I'm about to go to bed soon and read. However, I left my wood burning candle (which doesn't smell like anything and cost me $40 :l) and now there's smoke everywhere. I wouldn't be surprised if Smokey the Bear came in my room and lectured me on fire safety at this point, it's that shmokey. I digress; how's your night going? Don't forget to be sassy, saucy, and a little bit bossy.
A CHAI LATTE SOUNDS SO GOOD RN
you sound like ur having a great night apart from the smoke kJHDFKHGDFHJG
what music are u listening too?
and my night has been pretty chill!! today was my laast day at school so ive just been so tired and shit JKHFGKJHFG

S.
4.5/5
-I would definitely recommend this book! It was such a fun and immersive read, but it was a bit pricey: $45 from Barnes and Noble.
Summary: Senior college student Jennifer picks up a copy of Ship of Theseus by V.M. Straka from the college library and decides to write to the owner to say how much she loved the story. Eric, an expunged student from the college, writes back which starts a relationship between the two in the margins. Ship of Theseus is about a character named S. who doesn't have a past and is having to learn about himself and the world around him. He gets kidnapped by sailors shortly after meeting a girl named Sola when his journey begins. It's a lovely story about self discovery and love.
The annotations are done by Jen and Eric at different times like the black and blue is done in the beginning, orange and green later, purple and red after that, and finally black ink. There are several clues in the book like Xeroxes, letters, postcards, and a map drawn on a napkin; it's really easy to become immersed in the story.
Trigger Warning: violence, death, blood, fire, needles
Warning! There are spoilers lurking beyond the "keep reading!"
-When Eric wrote that he loved Jen. Bruh go ahead and put that on the list of things to daydream about: a person developing between the margins of a book solving a mystery, and they confess their love for me. We meet up in person for the first time, and I say my feelings for them, not in ink but in spoken words. We then move to Europe and work as scholars.

We meet up in person for the first time, and I say my feelings for them, not in ink but in spoken words. We then move to Europe and work as scholars.
-I loved when S. and Sola finally got to work together and how trippy time was. Like the different versions of themselves and how time went at a different pace on the ship.
Quotes:
-"What begins at the water must end there, and what ends there shall once more begin."
-"It's extremely cool how the words can stay the same but the meanings can change.
Because the reader changes."
-"Words are a gift to the dead, and a warning to the living."
"Of course there is a monkey. There is always a monkey." This is in reference to a monkey consistently showing up in the scenes.
Overall this book was worth the $45. It was a fun and interesting read that made me experience again how fun interactive books are; it kind of reminded me of going to the library when I was in elementary school and looking at the fun pop-up books or the ones with letters and extra post cards. I love the characters- both in the margins and in the text- and how their stories are told.

Dearest Josephine
3.5/5
-I would recommend this book; I loved the plot twists.
Summary: Josephine De Clare moves to Atterbury after her father died and found old letters curiously addressed to a Josephine De Clare that is scarily like herself. Elias Roch wrote these letters 200 years ago, so it's impossible Josie is the De Clare he wrote to, right? But that does not stop her from falling in love, and she becomes obsessed with meeting him one day. She is not the only one though; Roch met her one night and searched for her ever since then. He become infatuated with the idea of this mysterious De Clare and wrote a book/manuscript, too. Both Josie and Elias learn to look around them and see what they already have and the people who love them.
Trigger Warning: death
Warning! There are spoilers after the "keep reading"!!!
Favourite Scenes:
1. When Josie realised Elias was writing about her- it was when we came to the conclusion at the same time.
2. The "My heart belongs to Elias Roch" mug. I kind of want one.
3. When Elias writes to Josephine telling her the manuscript is hers to do whatever she wants with it, and what is his is hers.
4. When Elias proposes to Josephine in the manuscript. (Now I know it was Oliver writing that... omg now I'm in love.)
5. Finding out Oliver wrote the rest of the book.
6. When Josie and Oliver share a kiss.
7. "Dearest Oliver..."
Comments:
1. How did Elias get the details about Josie? Did Josie time travel? Doppelganger? Never discussed.
2. Elias seemed very obsessed with Josephine when they only met once. Reader doesn't find that out until later that she was "different." He also said "I love you" about halfway through the book; I thought it was a little too soon. I know he was going through a lot, but that was fast.
3. The texts would interrupt the story to hint at things/ make comparisons with Elias and Oliver or show the people that care about Josie or the similarities in Josie's and Elias's lives.
4. What was the point of making Elias sick? Tension? to realise later how much Lorelai cares and loves Elias? On that note, you could make a comparison Lorelai and Oliver in how they take care of Elias or Josie.
5. Lorelai confessing her love and was met with denial is similar to Oliver confessing his. Even Elias's reaction is similar to Josie's; they both freeze and don't really respond.
6. "Time doesn't work in our favour." reflects Elias's and Josie's situation; Oliver wrote this because Elias and modern Josie never met. She was not a time traveler and that was exactly how Josie felt.
7. When Elias in the manuscript left the table, it shows his standing with Arthur and Widow De Clare. food=communion
Quotes:
"All pains are equal and valid and deserving of attention."
"Poets use countless words to describe their pain, but I only need three: I love you."
Unexpected Twists:
1. When the reader finds out Arthur and Josephine are engaged in the manuscript.
2. Arthur's death
3. Arthur's and Widow De Clare's affair in the manuscript
Uncomfy Moments:
1. When Elias wrote "Women speak in code, do they not? I try to decipher it, but I cannot manage. They mean what they do not say, and they say far less than what they mean." Bruh. That sounds kinda sexist.
2. When Faith got mad at Josie for asking for more space and brought up her dad's death multiple times. She doesn't even try to understand Josie's point of view of the situation and how grief can take a long time. Grief isn't linear either.
3. Faith brought up Josie's dad again and how the renovations won't bring her dad back. UHM that's extremely rude. Wtf???
4. When Elias got deathly sick. :(((
5. Josie's obsession with Elias was almost difficult to read; she honestly thought she was going to meet him. She was just upset about her father, school, Faith, her mom, so it makes sense. I'm glad things got better for her in the end.
Overall the format was interesting with texts, emails, letters, and a manuscript. I really, really, wish the author would have answered how Elias painted her and described her to a T. I know Oliver finished it, but it's still weird. Especially in the beginning. Doppleganger?

♖ The Queen's Gambit ♗
4.5/5
-I would definitely recommend both the book and tv series on Netflix
Summary: Beth Harmon is an orphan who is sent to Mathuen Home for Girls and learns to play chess from Mr. Shaibel the janitor. She quickly finds out she is an amazing player and trains to compete for World Champion in the USSR. However not everything is picturesque as she deals with death, loneliness, drug addiction, and alcoholism along the way to finding herself and training to become the best chess player in the world.
Trigger Warning: alcholism, death, drug addiction, sexual assault, sex
Warning! There are spoilers past this "keep reading"!
Favourite scenes:
1. the first chess tournament she signs up for and enters despite not having a score
2. Beth's win against Beltik
3. When Beth is upset she is only famous for being a girl in chess and not really getting attention for her accomplishments.
4. Beth beating Benny with ease in his own apartment
5. Beating Borgov
Scenes that made me uncomfy: When Jolene sexually assaulted Beth and how the speaker described Margaret's body. :/
Differences in the series and the book:
1. Beth was not in the car with her mom. I guess the show made her to show trauma?
2. Beth did not talk to the girl she played chess with in the bathroom.
3. She took the pills to help her sleep and help calm her down; I was not this weird acid trip to play chess. I don't know.
4. When studying with Beltik, she didn't know everything/ every book.
5. Beltik didn't warn her about drug use before leaving or at the next year's Kentucky tournament. The reader does not see him again.
6. Jenny didn't say she was a model or in Paris. Nor did she sleep with her.
7. Beth was not late to play Borgov in Paris.
8. Beth searched for Jolene and did not borrow money.
9. The phone call in Russia did not include Beltik.
10. Beth had feelings for Benny.
11. She did not meet Townes in Russia.
12. Beth did not meet Townes' boyfriend. I'm not sure if I missed anything, but is Townes gay?
Comments: The scenes jumped around, so it was a little hard to follow. I had several dreams that I played chess while reading the book. lol I absolutely loved the book and series!

Dangerous Alliance
3/5
-would recommend!
Summary: Jane Austen obsessed Victoria must find a husband and is stuck between two men, a charming rich gentleman and a childhood friend. She also struggles with wanting to become her favourite Pride and Prejudice character, Elizabeth Bennet, and being herself. It's a regency era romance but with mystery, murder, and self discovery.
Trigger Warning: domestic violence, murder, drinking
There are spoilers after the "read more!!"
favourite scenes: first conversation with Mr. Carmichael, teasing Mr. Carmichael at the theatre, Tom's proposal, Tom's profession of love, and when Tom finally uses his communication skills to express his feelings
Comments:
1. I didn't like the beginning; I was confused about who the characters were and why Victoria was upset at Tom. There were a lot of parts that reminded me of Bridgerton that gave me painful flashbacks to Daphne and Tom- except for the whole Daphne tricking Tom- yikes.
2. Vicky kind of gave me "not like other girls" type vibes but only with her horse breeding obsession?
3. I really like how the characters' consent is respected and how Vicky is a little unpredictable because it makes the story a bit less... I don't want to say predictable again but that's what I'm going for. I just hate it when you already know the ending halfway through the book and exactly how the characters would react. I also appreciated Althea's character development because she was not just a side character that made the story more complicated; she improved as a person too.
4. It was easy to follow the point of view shifts.
5. The situations Vicky got in kept getting more and more dangerous to the point where it was ridiculous and unrealistic.
Overall it was a good book to distract your mind with and just read. I would recommend this to Bridgerton and Jane Austen fans. It also had a really pretty dust cover.
I wrote this review back in February and forgot to include specific reasons why I felt certain ways about things, so the points may be vague. I have more coming up!

Hey, Guys!
After a busy school year, I am finally back after a busy senior year! I graduated on Friday and won't start college until mid August, so I have time to review books and write again (though I am rusty.) Thank you so much for your patience as I tried to balance schoolwork, work, senior activities, and reading/writing.
I will start a series on here where I review books on here as well as beginning to write on my other blog.
To a lovely summer!

Ugh I love this so much. Everything about this is perfect 💕💕💕
“I’ll say it every second of every day if need be, I love you."
Warnings: N/A
Pairing: James Potter x Reader
Words: 2.8k
Summary: James Potter is desperately in love with you.
Part One “No, please… Don’t say that. You love her, not me.”
Part Two “James, you’re a right knob head sometimes. She loves you.”
(Hi! This is part three of my James Potter series. Feel free to read those before hand!)
It was odd to see you without James. It seemed that after the Gryffindor party, you had disappeared. It was rare to see you during meal times and you were nothing but a passing figure in the corridors, fleeing before the boys could stop you. It wasn’t just Remus you were dodging, Sirius could barely find you in a crowd and Peter had spoken to you all but once these past few weeks. James, it seemed, was taking your absence the hardest. He frequently turned to his side to tell you a witty or inappropriate joke only to find that you weren’t there. Living without you was torture. Living without the person he loved was torture. And, what made it worse, was that it was his doing that brought this fate upon the Marauders. Remus Lupin, to put kindly, was extremely fed up. He missed his friend and found himself quite lonely studying in the library. And if he were to catch you somewhere, reading or doing homework, you were quiet and reserved, almost fragile to an extent. So, Remus made it his mission, after a grueling day of classes, to find you. He stalked the halls, peering left and right, checked the Astronomy Tower and the Owlery and the kitchens. It was only until he found you, tucked away and unseen, in the back of the library that he let out a sigh of relief.
Remus pulled a chair from the table and sat down, staring at you intently. “Right, Y/N. This has got to stop.”
“What are you on about, Remus?” you asked, raising your eyes from your book that you were barely reading.
“Don’t play dumb!” Remus used his hand to refer to you, “This has got to stop. It’s become ridiculous.”
“Rem-”
“No, just listen to me. I don’t want to raise my voice or become angry, but you’ve beyond frustrated me. Y/N, this has got to stop, you cannot go on like this.”
“Go on like what?” you asked sharply.
“Like this!” you knew exactly what Remus was talking about. You had become quite skinny, almost gaunt like. Your body adorned an old knitted sweater that James had given you after his growth spurt. It engulfed your body and swallowed you whole. Your face has lost its colour, and your paleness reached all over your skin. You looked sick. Lovesick, if you will, and suffering from heartbreak and losing the battle.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” you gazed back at your book, hoping Remus would leave.
“Damn it, Y/N. Stop it.” Remus slammed his hand on the table, making you jump. Remus had never raised his voice at you, but looking in his eyes, you could see how desperate he was. Remus redacted his hand and shook his head, “I’m sorry.” he whispered.
“It’s okay,” you said reassuringly, reaching to place your hand on his.
“I’m worried about you.”
“I know,” you said truthfully, rubbing his knuckles with your thumb, “but I’m alright.”
“No, no you’re not, Y/N. This isn’t you. The person sitting here isn’t you.” Remus trailed off. If this is what love is, Remus thought, then maybe he didn’t want it. He could see how this was tearing you apart, inside and out. “Everyone misses you. James misses you.”
“I miss you too,” your voice quivered a bit, hearing James’ name struck a blade in your throat.
“He’s not the same, y’know? Have you noticed?”
You couldn’t say you had. Every time you had seen him in the corridor or in the common room, you practically ran away. It was utter agony to see the man who you so desperately loved, not love you back. But, if you had lingered, if you stayed for mere seconds, you would have seen how broken James was. He smiled and ran his fingers through his hair as he usually did, but the smile was nearly blank and his hair was pulled nervously.
“Rem-”
“I know,” he sighed, “But at least think about coming back, okay? It’s scaring me to see you like this.”
You nodded, “I love you, Moons.”
Remus squeezed your hand, sending you a worried smile and stood up to leave you alone with your thoughts. As you sat there, you found yourself playing with James’ sweater, fiddling with and pulling out the loose strands. You feared that this was the end of yours and James’ friendship, perhaps even for good. You weren’t sure you could go back to being friends, it simply felt too emotionally difficult to be nothing but mates. You couldn’t do it. A small part of you wanted to be angry with James. In fact, you wanted to be furious at him for toying with your feelings like that. You wanted to scream and send him a jinx that would cause his head to become an octopus. Maybe then he’d see how much he sucked. But, you couldn’t. You couldn’t even be annoyed. The only thing you could feel was the throbbing hurt of your broken heart and helplessly missing a certain James Potter.
