alien abduction
oh my god wait i forgot. at my lab we have two emperor scorpions (confirmed male and female) that we’re cohabiting and trying to breed and their names are mulder and scully. how could i have forgotten to share this

mulder is the one “loafing” with his claws and tail all tucked in. every time we check in on them they’re right next to each other

i’ve been at an invertebrate conference this week (because somehow i am even bigger a nerd than thought possible) and it’s got me thinking: if mulder and scully were bugs, what would they be? because surely nobody has asked this question before and someone has to. and that someone is me <3
for scully i am thinking either velvet ant or centipede (i’m using bug loosely)! velvet ants are a type of wingless wasp that come in all sorts of fun colors and they’re very fuzzy. most known for their powerful sting! and they’re orange.
centipedes are also venomous and very cool but i say this because they have fun curly antennae but ALSO are really great moms and exhibit parental care which is pretty uncommon in the insect world.

for mulder my first instinct is stag beetle, somehow?? maybe because of their competitive behavior and size, but i almost want to assign him some species of mantis, just because the males are so silly and FLIGHTY. they love to run and fly and escape all over the place. there’s also the part about them being consumed by the female after mating (but male mantids are still super formidable hunters!) which i think is kind of funny for him.

or maybe a male pepsis wasp, or a gigas millipede? to give some kind of contrast to centipede scully. of course there’s always the moth/mothman route…
#txf meta#txf#bugs#this is silly but i’m an entomologist I CAN’T HELP ITTTT#does anyone care. can anyone hear me. hello

Life moves pretty fast. One minute, I’m just hanging on the couch watching Wheel of Fortune with a nice older lady and then I’m being picked up by a cute red-haired woman. She had this tall guy with her. Low-key surprised he left after we got home. Could’ve sworn they were an item. They probably are, the denial with those two is far stronger than my love of a fine Milkbone.

one of my favorite personal headcanons is that mulder spent his youth looking for any surviving heath hens, a bird that lived on martha's vineyard until it went extinct in 1932.
i think it is an early introduction into the truth being out there that fits him nicely, but also: who is fox mulder if not a little boy hoping to rediscover what everyone tells him is dead and lost?
#what if i threw up.#YEAH. YEAH.#mulder’s too large shirt you understand me (was also recently on the wikipedia page for recently extinct species)
