Reflections on how to manipulate twitter data
The twitter community recycles and produces information that remains within the group of followers or becomes only affordable amongst the twitter users.
Thinking of a public installation place situated, the live stream twitter data as a source of driving force in making the installation interactive proved to be rather limited and inconvenient. Having observed the patterns of the twitting information in terms of hashtags, they show that do not maintain longitivtiy and their life-span is limited to a designated time specific event. If to think user's twitting strength ability, it usually limits to a few tweets in a day, a fact that if put into perspective cannot form a forcing power that amends an installation within the time specific visual field of a public domain.
Thinking of a strategy how twitter data can formulate a more robust source that triggers immediate representations, the answer may come from looking into other related information which sits within the tweets rather the context of the tweet. This may be the frequency of tweets coming from a specific location, geotags. It could be a day analysis on the peak time that tweets appear from a specific user and possibly another way of looking at it, is to run a comparison exercise between the timelines of public figures and activate an installation that becomes meaningful within people that do not have access of the twitter as a social media.
The analysis of the twitter data then gains another dimension that becomes broadly displayed and manifested in a form, sound colour and physical interaction. The next stage of the study will focus therefore will aim to explore space, time and user filter in order to draw further conclusions on how the twitter data availability can give meaning to public space and indulge people in meaningful interaction.

Datagrove by Future Cities Lab Datagrove aggregates local trending Twitter feeds from San Jose and then whispers these back through speakers and LCDs displays. It functions as a social media "whispering wall" that harnesses data that is normally nested and hidden in smart phones, and amplifies this discourse into the public realm.

"tele-present water" David Bowen's Tele-Present Water installation draws information from the movement and intensity of the water in real-time from National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) data buoy station 46075 in the Shumagin Islands, Alaska. It then displays this information on the mechanical grid structure in the gallery through the use of an Arduino mega running servo firmata and using an 11 x 24 volt dc motor with drivers.
