I love how Mateo's character grew and matured. As a neurodivergent and dyslexic person, I haven't experienced much significant change in my own life, but seeing a character who represents your struggles in a TV show is nice.

Actually, I have multiple representations of my life in this series—being Middle Eastern Iranian, being trans, being gay, being neurodivergent and dyslexic. It's interesting.

I'm struggling hard internally to love Marjan.

Look, I was born and live in a country where people are forced to follow Islamic laws. I was born into a Muslim family. Marjan, as a character, is really badass, but everything about the Islamic ideology she represents is nonsense. The hijab in Islam is mandatory, not a choice. Her attire is not considered proper by Islamic standards.

I don’t know how much you know about the Mahsa Amini revolution, but in my country, women and AFAB individuals are forced to wear the hijab, and if they don’t choose to wear it, they are murdered by the Islamic regime. In Islam, women’s bodies (not just their hair, but their entire bodies and beauty) must be covered. Women are not allowed to touch men. Islam has a problem with queers. There is a long passage in Islam’s holy book describing how queers are punished by divine wrath.

I understand that representation and diversity matter, but this isn’t reality. Every time I look at Marjan (which is an Iranian name, so I assume she’s supposed to be Iranian), I experience religious trauma.
