Esaka (Arrange)

The King of Fighters '94

Happy 30th anniversary to the King of Fighters series, one of my all time favorites.

This is the arranged version of the very first Esaka, the theme of the then newcomers Kyo Kusanagi, Benimaru Nikaido, and Goro Daimon, also known as the Japan team.

I don't adore the OST version but the AST makes this song sound simply magical.

Yappari ESAKA

The King of Fighters XIV

Happy anniversary to KOF 14! Not the most beloved KOF game but it did give us an amazing soundtrack. My personal favorite is this game's version of Esaka, which is a reimagining of Esaka? from KOF '96. It goes incredibly hard with the guitar, synths, and references to the original. This is the most recent game to have the Japan team, so it's the theme of not only Kyo, but also Benimaru and Daimon.

This song starts out almost incoherently, but Ramlethal what it means to be human, and as the song goes on it turns into a ballad about what it means to be alive.

Player Select

Capcom VS. SNK 2: Millionaire Fighting 2001

Composed (and with commentary) by Satoshi Ise.

I haven't done a character select screen yet. This one is truly unique. CVS2 presents itself as a television broadcast of a massive fighting tournament, and the CSS theme plays into that more than any other. The commentary is hardcore and exaggerated and gets you absolutely pumped.

Jez Corden from Windows Central has reported that #Microsoft is working to address the MT Framework issue impacting #Capcom games on #Xbox.

According to Corden, Capcom's decision to forgo Xbox releases because of technical challenges has shed light on Microsoft's struggle to maintain a strong presence in the Fighting Game Community, especially after the launch of #StreetFighter V.

Corden has noted that Microsoft is actively collaborating with Capcom to resolve these issues. Microsoft understands that the absence of Capcom's back catalog on Xbox due to technical reasons is problematic. Reportedly, Microsoft is working to find a solution and improve the situation.

Golden Meadow

Tekken 8

First time Tekken posting, sorry it took so long! This is the theme of the Ortiz Farm stage in Peru, and probably considered by most as the theme of Azucena Milagro Ortiz Castillo. Also know simply as Azucena, the Coffee Queen. She's also a dancer, model, and MMA fighter.

Most of the Tekken trailers used the default music, so when this played in Azucena's trailer the music was immediately striking. The energetic quena and zampoña combining with the background vocals, percussion, and techno beat drops makes this track go so. Fucking. Hard. I'm gonna go get some coffee.

Inferno (Cinder's Theme)

Killer Instinct (2013)

Composed by Mick Gordon.

Killer Instinct has a reputation for having some of the best music in fighting game history. Portraying this is difficult because this reputation comes not only from the composition and instrumentation, but also because the music changes during the moment to moment gameplay and coincides with the most suspenseful and exciting moments of combat.

Knowing this, Mick Gordon arranged specific versions of these soundtracks into tracks that are meant to be listened to outside of the context of gameplay.

And the one for Cinder is an absolute masterpiece. The action rises over the course of the song as the music gets more intense, with a slow guitar echoing the KI theme song in the middle, and then finally crescendos with the loud metal version of Cinder's classic theme that he's been teasing the whole song. Absolute gold.

Udon Studios is preparing to release "Team #Darkstalkers" by #TimSeeley and #AlbertoAlburquerque as part of their October 2024 lineup.

The announcement was made during their Diamond Retailer Lunch presentation. The comic will feature the Night Warriors and World Warriors teaming up to fight against the threat the newly resurrected Shadow Lady Jedah poses.

Characters such as B.B. Hood, Felicia, Morrigan, Cammy, Rose, and Gill will join forces to protect their worlds. The comic will be released with various cover versions, including ones by Hanzo Steinbach and Alburquerque, and will be available in stores on October 2, 2024.

This is True Love Makin'

Capcom VS. SNK 2: Millionaire Fighting 2001

Yesterday was the 23rd anniversary of CVS2, so there's no better track to post than one of the best in the entire genre.

True Love Makin plays for the London Stage, which, like most stages in CVS2, has multiple cameos in the background, including Elena, Dudley, Billy and Lily Kane, and a relatively obscure character; Karman Cole from Art of Fighting 3. At night you can also see Rose, as well as Rogue from Power Stone.

This track is beyond iconic, and epitomizes the whole soundtrack and vibe of CVS2. Give it a listen, and let's all hope this game gets re-released soon.

Demitri Stage (Romania)

Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors

Known as Vampire: The Night Warriors in Japan, this is Demitri's first theme for his first game. Demitri Maximoff is the evil male protagonist of the Darkstalkers series, and archrival to the not evil but still not heroic female protagonist Morrigan.

This track is composed by Hideki Okugawa, and would later be remixed for Vampire Savior.

Unlike that remix, this track has a slow melancholic atmosphere. This game's commitment to the macabre and melancholy contrasts the increasing whimsy and fast pace of combat in later entries. This reflects in the soundtrack, especially this track, which is absolutely my favorite in the first game.

Theme of Spider-Man

Happy late Spider-Man day!

Spider-Man's theme was my gateway to fighting game music. I loved Marvel 2's soundtrack and wanted to know what the then new Marvel 3 soundtrack was like, and I was surprised to learn the game had character themes instead of stage themes.

The composition and instrumentation immediately perplexed and hooked me. It not only sounded unique and unlike anything I'd heard before, but it sounded like the concept of Spider-Man as a superhero.

Anyway, MSH VS SF has my favorite Spider-Man theme. The composition has all of the beats you want, the instrumentation is still mysterious and buglike, and it's still heroic. His theme and animation reflect his jittery personality, stealthy wall crawling, Spider-inspired martial arts, and fast acrobatic prowess.

Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike

Happy 20th anniversary to the most important moment in competitive fighting game history. Were is not for Daigo parrying Justin's super and then landing the kill combo, 3rd Strike wouldn't be as popular, EVO wouldn't be as huge, and fighting game esports wouldn't have thrived the way they do now. This was the first domino.

Fighting games is something so great.

Anyway, Jazzy NYC is one of the fighting game GOATs, and is a bop for all three rounds.

A remix of The Sun Rises from Okami, originally composed by Masami Ueda, and arranged for Marvel 3 by Hideyuki Fukasawa.

A dance / dubstep remix of traditional Japanese music is definitely a choice, but in my opinion it pays off. It's epic, beautiful, and perfectly encapsulates the character. Also, puppy!
