this can Technically technically technically hypothetically technically be interpreted two different ways, considering he is supposedly The black silence during the game and then the artbook is like NO LOL IT'S ANGELICA. like there is actually one true answer as to how this should be interpreted (because he does not believe himself to be The black silence. because that was his wife.) but the thing is it works BOTH WAYS:

he is the black silence, and he's lying about whether there was any moment whatsoever in which he could say such a thing about himself (which would obviously be false, if he were the black silence he had multiple opportunities in which he was outright pressed on his origins and could have said so, including that time he confessed to previously being a "kickass grade 1 fixer")

he is not the black silence, and he's trying his hardest to roll with her assuming he is because he REALLY doesnt want to admit literally anything whatsoever about his wife (he even calls HER a grade 1, previously! again with technically true but omitting crucial context information!) which results in him lying his ass off with "y... Yuppp i'm... totalllyyyy the black silence (trying not to throw up)"

less of a roland post and more of a floor of gen works post. oddly specific headcanon: it's dead fucking silent. not that all sounds made are muffled or something, but that there's no background noise at all. no wind, no idle humming or buzzing, no nothing. and even more eerie than that is a complete lack of echo; surely you'd expect such a wide open cavernous space to have echo, but there fucking isnt. if you were to yell into the empty space, it never bounces back.

i saw a take not too long ago more or less saying that people judge Ayin more than Roland despite roland having done more bad things (or smth along those lines, dont recall exactly but it was about Roland doing more messed up things than Ayin yet viewed as better) which is kinda funny to me, because even if we were to say that Roland did more bad stuff (a subjective thing) that really doesnt matter Roland has a redemption arc, Ayin does not

it's just that simple, Ayin's story simply isn't about redemption, which is fine, but that makes Rolands actions seem far more sympathetic

Last night i was thinking about roland being super chatty and a huge gossip. like iirc his personality traits in his artbook profile are "amiable" "talkative" and some third thing. for a guy who hates talking about himself, he sure does love to yap about whatever the Tea is

he'll often bring up random shit he heard about one time just to talk about it. he does this with angela basically every pre-reception but another notable example is like, that one small stories on hokma's floor where he's like "dude dont talk about angela behind her back. cus yknow i heard she can hear us all the time whenever she wants. she could be listening right now" and the other librarians are like Arent you. Doing that. Talking about her. he's so absurd and i wanna know what other bullshit he chats about. does he have an actual gossip buddy and who would it be.
