Hiccup vanishes after Berk turns its back against dragons one too many times. In his travels, he runs into Viggo Grimborn, a man who not only appreciates his genius but also sees dragons as more than violent beasts. It’s easy to fall for his silky words, to be drawn into his mind and allow the man to impress his ideas upon him. Of course, it helps that Viggo can get Hiccup all the supplies he needs for his projects and all the man asks in return is favors. A day’s work in the forge. An escort to keep dragons calm during transport. Information from the reclusive Defenders of the Wing and Wingmaidens. A night in his bed. By the time Hiccup runs into his old peers, he’s far outgrown them and their mission. He’d rather defend the man that encouraged his nature than side with those that failed to stand by his side.

Do you think Viggo ever cried himself to sleep holding one of Ryker's belongings after his death? I keep picturing post redemption Viggo doing a lot of self reflection, and that would totally include his relationship with Ryker.

Sure they weren't in the best of terms towards the end, but, they were still brothers. I like to think that the bad blood between them didn't start with a conscious choice or act, rather the turmoil started as kids, when Viggo accidentally kept annoying Ryker by doing things better. In reality he just wanted to be like his big brother: big, strong, good with weapons... Who wouldn't look up to a man like him? Viggo was so proud of his big brother, that when Ryker did something, Viggo copied it hoping he'd be proud of him. But as luck would have it the younger Grimborn just proved to be better at some things, which brought the attention Ryker was enjoying away from him and onto his younger brother. Viggo saw it as a game, but the resentment Ryker felt was very much real, and it only worsened with time, which soured his relationship with Viggo since young. For Ryker it became a competition, and when Viggo expected to get praised by his big brother after doing something right, he'd be met by silence or angry words. Tiny Viggo didn't know what was wrong, but people kept praising him, so he continued. Eventually the praise got to his head as he grew up and he stopped caring that much about Ryker's approval, seeing his reactions as just plain and simple jealousy.

External factors made things even worse between the two, I definitely think whoever their guardian was nurtured that rivalry and more, but even then, they still cared for each other in some deep corner of their heart.

So when Viggo finds Ryker's old axe, one of his vests, or maybe just an item his older brother had gifted him when they were still kids, Viggo can't help but cry and mourn the loss of his brother in silence. He blames himself, of course he does, and he detests how things ended between the two; but he also mourns their relationship, how, in other circumstances, they could have just been regular siblings that loved each other. Maybe if he hadn't been so proud and cocky, maybe if Ryker hadn't let the jealousy blind him... It'd be easier to think they were always doomed to finish one another, no matter what. But his lips tremble when he speaks his name, his throat closes when he remembers his voice, his eyes tear up when he sees his brother in his dreams. Viggo knows deep down he loved his brother just as much as when they were kids, and he knows Ryker cared for him too.

So he lays in bed at night, remembering the faint memories where they'd laugh together playing hunters and dragons with wooden swords around the meadow back home, and hopes he'll get to hug his big brother again in Valhalla.

I know we are all used to hear bad news from the USA or UK when it comes to trans rights but this time Germany wants to play in the same league.

Our idiots at home ministry came up with the fucking idea to start a register for all transgender and nonbinary people which would mean every person working at some public position could always at any given time see your assigned gender at birth, your deadname, your address and who knows what else.

We had been there in the past. Hitler Germany called it the "Travestite Law" back then. Our politicians didn't learn.

I ship them! I, however, also think that they shouldn't really be considered a 'proship'- they more easily fall under the line of comship (complicated ship) because their age gap- while weird in a modern society, is,, perfectly fine, for the time period (as far as I'm aware) and plot. It's basically irrelevant.

19 and 30 sounds weird until you remember that the first movie, where hiccup is 15, he goes through his coming of age (the trial of flame/training to kill dragons. This is LITERALLY referred to as the coming of age in Berk society in the movie (the live action, at least. I haven't rewatched the original recently).

Coming of age... As in, when he ages up and becomes a part of the older/adult society of his Village. He literally fought an eldritch horror and won. He's incredibly intelligent and mature by the time Rtte takes place, literally on the same line as Viggo is- the main plot through most of rtte is that their intelligence is on nearly exactly the same level and they struggle to outsmart each other.

Therefore Hiccup could give informed consent,, it's not only legal in modern times (if not a little weird in some cases) but more than likely perfectly fucking fine in the LITERAL VIKING AGE. I cannot stress that enough, I feel like people forget that somehow. We can't judge ships based in completely different time periods on modern morals??
