My hand hurts a lot for something that is going to be ruined the second someone spills a cool refreshing glass of Gamer Fuel, but I’m very proud nonetheless.

You know what? We all like to hee haw about Homestuck being bad and everything, but I legitimately was never as happy and enthralled with a work of fiction as I was when Homestuck was consistently updating

So story time and I guess the backstory of this comic, I might get a few of the details wrong so correct me if I mess anything up @partyhatjigglypuff.
Anywho, @partyhatjigglypuff and I were playing mario party 2 in his basement making our way through all the maps. I was annoying him, as usual, through winning every single map through some bullshit dumb luck. We were on Mystery Land (the board cut into like 4 circles and you more or less need happening spaces to traverse them) and at the second to last turn I was down 3 stars sitting in last place. I roll and make my way to the boo space where I get to choose to steal stars or coins. I had plenty of coins so the obvious option is to steal a star but i opted for coins instead from Wario, who currently had the most. I made this decision for two reasons. 1) without fail @partyhatjigglypuff goes for the coin star every game and even if I lost, taking that is a good way to annoy him and 2) if I stole his star he'd probably punch me in the arm again which, you know, I generally deserve for my shenanigans. But anyway back to the story. Last turn rolls around and I do have a toad genie lamp to carry me to the star so I use it, because why not. +1 star. After I get the star I roll my dice and get a 10. The next star is on the opposite side of the board but I can pay the UFO bob-oms 10 coins to carry me there and I have enough movement to pick up the star. +2 stars. I now have 3 stars while @partyhatjigglypuff is in the lead with 4. I finish my movement and land on a plain blue space but surprise, a hidden block with a star. +3 stars. I am now tied for first and its coming down to bonus stars. Good thing I stole coins instead of stars because I take the coin star and @partyhatjigglypuff takes the happening star tying us up at 5 stars a piece. And how are ties broken in Mario Party? By who has the most coins, and good thing I stole coins from Wario placing me in first. Needless to say I once again prevailed through bullshit dumb luck and got punched. It was a pretty good time.

What Pumpkin Games is going through a transition period, which has involved restructuring the company, the way we develop games, and the types of projects we focus on. First, the most important thing to address is, Hiveswap’s development absolutely will continue. The approach to its development will evolve as this transition goes forward, but ensuring the release of the full Hiveswap series remains our priority. We should have more specific information about what exactly this means for Hiveswap in coming weeks.
In the more immediate future, WPG is shifting focus to making smaller, fun, lightweight games that can be produced more quickly. The type of content we can release along the way between acts, continuing to build upon the Hiveswap world, and give fans things they can enjoy while they wait. These games are somewhat in the vein of what we did with the Troll Call, but more engaging, providing more depth and background to the characters that were previewed.
The first such game will be available very soon. The format is a “Friendship Simulator”, much like dating sims or visual novels you may have played before. The idea is, instead of trying to date a character, you just try to befriend them, and in the process, you get to know them better, and ridiculous things happen along the way. The first volume features two trolls from the Troll Call, and was written by Andrew Hussie.
We hope you enjoy this type of game! If it’s well received by the fans, then there should be more of these to play in the future. We appreciate your patience and support as WPG makes this transition.

One thing I think is useful to conceptualize when thinking about the severity of depression is figuring out what counts as a ‘task’ to your brain
for example, healthy people outlining the tasks they need to do that day might be something like
- class - work - homework
if a healthy person is having a low energy day, maybe it becomes
- make breakfast - go to class - class - go to work - work - come home from work - work on an essay - do 2 readings
a depressed person, on a high energy day will probably see that same day as
- make breakfast - eat breakfast - take meds - shower - get dressed - walk to bus - take bus … etc
a depressed person, on a low energy day will see that same day as
- wake up - get out of bed - walk to bathroom - use bathroom - stand back up - walk to kitchen - open fridge - take out juice - set on counter - go to cabinet - reach up arm - take down glass - unscrew lid of juice carton - pour juice - drink the juice - finish the juice …etc
the sort of chronic exhaustion manifests in how each ‘task’ takes a certain amount of energy and when you have depression, what begins to take that amount of energy- and thus, cognitively count as a ‘task’- are smaller and smaller subdivisions of what other people consider tasks.
And the more ‘tasks’ you do, the less energy you have, and the smaller the subdivisions must be to take equivalent amounts of energy. And the longer that “to do” list of tasks is, the more exhausting and overwhelming and hopeless it feels, which creates a feedback loop of dysfunction.
So say our depressed person on a low energy day gets all the way to finishing their glass of juice. They’ve actually gotten through a lot of tasks! They’ve tried really hard.
But to a healthy person, even on a low energy day, that probably looks like not having done anything- not having gotten through any tasks. And when our depressed person is surrounded by healthy people, they will likely internalize that they haven’t done anything, and further that they can’t complete any tasks no matter how hard they try. And that feeds worthlessness and suicidal ideation
That, I think, is why it’s so important to encourage your depressed and chronically low-energy friends when they accomplish tasks, even if they’re operating at a level of subdivision that you don’t recognize. It is an accomplishment to get water and actually drink it for some folks. It is an accomplishment to get to class or to work.
And acknowledging how hard someone is trying and how much energy they’re putting towards accomplishing those tasks can make a huge difference in whether they feel worthless and hopeless or whether they feel like it’s worth it to keep doing what they can.

some of you have been saying to me, “Hey, you’re a heathen who fears neither God nor death, right? Nuke The Sound Of Silence.”
so, after a lot of stalling, here is “The Sound Of Silence, But The Instruments Are The Vocals And The Vocals Are The Instruments.” What does that mean, you ask?
You are about to find out. Enjoy the ride.
