James worked hard to create a palette he is proud of with colors, names, and ingredients that he supports. On the street of the Los Angeles Fashion District he found his palette. He will not be getting any credit or funds from the project he created. In fact his name is targeted on something he did not give his consent for...
Los Angeles Police Department task force seized $700,000 worth of counterfeit cosmetics after raiding 21 locations in downtown Fashion District. Police Captain Marc Reina announced, “Fake cosmetics were found to contain bacteria and human waste.” Santee Alley netted makeup to look like popular brands such as Urban Decay, NARS, MAC, Kylie Cosmetics, and many others. Detective Rick Ishitani said, “The price tells you if it’s counterfeit or not.” Most makeup there is under twenty dollars, things that usually costs over fifty retailing for almost 75 percent off. It is crazy to believe that people purchasing these products then complain about the bumps or rashes they get then blaming the original company. Since the packaging can be identical to some of brands, the real way to tell is opening the product, which is not allowed at the businesses in Santee Alley.

Big Break for Social Media Stars
Social media influencers like Jeffree Star, MannyMUA, James Charles, NikkieTutorials, Nicole Guerrero, Jaclyn Hill, and Karen Sarahi Gonzalez to name a few. They are big “beauty gurus” on Youtube and Instagram. They started off just as just makeup artists and now make a living off of providing videos for their millions of subscribers. Some videos they are doing are natural look, makeup in reverse, using art supplies, opposite hand, blindfolded, under five minutes, and much more. Youtubers are going out of their way and putting out crazy ways to do makeup to make it entertaining for the viewer. In one challenge they do drug store makeup making it possibly for viewers who cannot afford high end makeup a way of showing them what is worth it to buy. It is important to take caution and make sure it is safe for the skin. It is important to include this one because although crazy it can be very informative for the viewers to see what is safe and what isn’t.

The “Fake” Truth
Fake makeup is extremely dangerous to people’s health. So many companies are putting out so called “fake makeup” recreating artists work and selling it cheaper. When things come cheap it comes with a cost. It is cleverly disguised with special makeup mask. It makes it visually hard to distinguish between masked faces and real faces. Main things people are able to point out if it is fake is the reflectance, infrared light, and mostly comparing the two matrices.

People back then were putting white lead, chalk, henna, lead paint, egg whites, etc. It was important to take care and know what your makeup consisted of because white lead and mercury became dangerous. It ruined people’s skin, caused hair loss, stomach problems, shakes, and sometimes even death.
