Oh boy. Well. I can tell you for certain that his primaries are not clipped. 

The only thing I can think is that they mean the ones you can see here:

But those aren’t primaries, those are just primary coverts that are visible because whoever designed these wings didn’t make the feathers wide enough to form a solid wing structure. 

Here’s the thing tho- Crowley and Aziraphale’s wings were based off swan wings, and to ground a swan, you only have to clip a few feathers and only on one side. Here’s a diagram of a swan’s primaries (x):

For swans, you clip numbers 1, 2 and then 4, 6, and 8 (or 5,7,9). This leaves a space that breaks lift in the middle of the wing (where 1 & 2 were) and the gaps in the end of the wing (4,6,8) effectively make getting off the ground in the first place impossible because the wing no longer has enough structural strength to move air when the bird flaps. Here’s a good comparison photo of a clipped swan’s wings:

Crowley’s wings don’t look anything like that. So IF his primaries were clipped rather than, like, just growing in from a moult maybe, then it wasn’t a very good clipping job. Personally I think the primaries/secondaries were just…. not made wide enough, so it looks like gaps where there shouldn’t be.

Now, not to be slightly horrifying here? but there’s a difference between clipped wings and pinioned wings. A pinioned wing is a wing on which the bone the primaries would attach to is clipped off/amputated at a very young age, like SUPER young when their bones are still pretty soft. The alula is usually left intact, so that the alula feathers can cover the open edge of the wing. This, again, is only done on one wing, and it permanently grounds a swan. There is no way for those feathers to ever return.

Now, interestingly? A pinioned wing does look like Crowley’s wings:

Those end secondaries are just big enough to sort of resemble primaries. Now here’s another interesting bit of info: swan primaries are shaped completely different than their secondaries (ok lots of birds are but their wings were specifically modeled after swans so!!). Have a look at the primaries here, on the left (x):

Crowley’s “primaries” aren’t shaped differently at all on either wing, nor are Aziraphale’s. Additionally, a swan’s wing should have, like, 30 some feathers (10 primaries and 20-some secondaries, idk the exact number, but it’s a little more than 20). Crowley’s feathers are spaced such that you can count the feathers pretty easily. There’s 20ish (I think I count like 22). They appear to be missing, on both sides, the exact number of primary feathers they should have in order to have a complete wing.

Now that could be a simple design flaw. Lots of birds have 10 primaries and 10ish secondaries. But swans don’t, and these wings were modeled after swan wings. So if it’s not a design flaw, then that’s, uh. you know. That’s not great. That implies both of them have been, at some point, pinioned as adults.
