I think without question women who aspire to be athletes, who want to play sports, are better off today than they were thirty years ago. I think it really encouraged young girls to go out there and aspire to their dreams and try to reach their goals. 

But despite Title IX, women have really gained very little at the professional sports level over time. 

It’s a cultural issue. It’s not just a women in sport issue. As a culture we have to look at all of the messages we send out on a daily basis about what we think is important. I think we’ve made a lot of progress. But I think we have a lot of progress to make.

I brought myself to watch it. I thought it was a well made, mostly balanced depiction of the gist of her life and career, but deeply sad at the same time. I have not seen the other stories in this Netflix series, but I do recommend watching it for new or old fans, it does explain quite a bit; things already known and some things Hope doesn’t seem to share with many people. I think part of the problem that has always been the public perception of who she is - is that a lot of people only scratch the surface of things she says and how she is portrayed. There is a long history and a deep background that must be understood about her life and the history of the ussf that comes into play with Hope’s story, and I hope this helps some to at least see part of that.

I am left feeling immense heartbreak for Hope and what she has been through, but also immensely proud. One thing I do know about Hope is that she does not give up. I think she is a deeply flawed human being who has tried to make it through life the only way she knows how. And she is also an exceptional generational talent we will never see again. What happened to her career will never be right. And after all of it, all of these years, I can still truly say I do believe she is a good person at heart, and I can only hope her journey forward is peace.
