I never really cared a whole lot about the elves in LOTR because they all seemed kind of distant and ~wise~

But in the Silmarillion they discover what murder is and proceed to just do that a whole lot and then they try to murder Satan and let me tell you, that’s a page turner

Akallabêth really did require that I go through an hour of internal screeching over tree death, irrecoverable Meneltarma above the waves, and the final demise of Númenor, Land of Gift and of the Star.

the silmarillion is a story where the smartest people get punished by the narrative because of things outside of their control and the dumbest people get rewarded because the author has decided to give them the most insane plot armor that would never fly in any other universe unless your name is John Ronald Reuel Tolkien

Currently reading The Silmarillion by J. R. R. Tolkien and I am at the, uh. The sad part. There are a lot of sad parts, actually, and it seems to be getting progressively worse—
