Yes. That's why he was so angry at the Inquisitor. He was enraged/disgusted because he still has PTSD from his most trusted friend coercing him into SLAVERY (why is no one talking about how VILE that was of Mythal to do to him).

AND I think, to my very soul, this is the crux on why "he can't see reason." Because until Mythal herself said "I release you from my service" he could not stop fighting. He imprisoned the Evanuris out of vengance for Mythal (who he outright rebelled against). But the imprisoning ritual went haywire. And he not complete his 'duty to his mistress.' He HAD to set the record right. But it kept not GOING right. And he wanted to be stopped, because subconciously, he knew his drive to 'fix his mistake' was not of his own will. It was the will of that ancient enslavement he couldn't truly sunder.

And then... she released him. And Solas - his mind reeling, his soul fragmenting at the agony of that past and his current actions - tries one last time to fix his mistake. The Veil coming down WOULD BE CATASTROPHIC to this weak, broken world. And... its time he took TRUE accountability for his actions. Justice for the world he destroyed. And willingly chained himself to the Veil.

ThIIIIIIISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS I always say Dorian is my favorite DAI character, but I have not combed through tumblr posts discussing him, his motivations, his story, the lore surrounding him, screeching at analysis posts. But I sure as hell am doing that for Solas because ITS FREAKING NUTS BRO.

And also, that last line??? Its giving that infamous Spy Kids 2 line: "Do you think that the reason God stays up in heaven... is because he too, lives in fear of his creations?"

Q: 'Why did you create the world?' - Solas: "It was a mistake and a wrong I have been trying to correct."

hate solas or not romance him or not whatever like. i dont understand how he doesnt drive everyone CRAZY as a character.

like. have you ever just sat and thought about. what it must be like. the trauma. the shakespearean sadness of being the only person that remembers DEATH not being a thing.

and you feel so insane because youre going around telling people “no you dont understand the world as it exists now is fucking horrible people used to not DIE.” and theyre like “its fine as it is just let it be and let us live and die as we are”, desperate for you to acknowledge their personhood. Meanwhile your entire race is the victim of genocide and slavery and cultural erasure, what little magic remains in the world is shunned and mages are systematically imprisoned for being fucking born and people die of old age and its because of you. and now its your cross to bear to atone for ALL of that and justify to people that the world could be better but no one else knows anything different so they dont get it and just know they dont want to die.

And so the only way you can cope with the trauma of that is by treating the world and everyone in it like it’s a bad dream.

Its just so existential. It’s like what if you could talk to God and ask him why he made the world but he was just some vaguely pathetic dude and his answer was “it was a mistake and i regret it every day”.

But also, that's just such a fun rule to write for a character. A character who mirrors, but is fundementally unable to NOT bristle at your own ego and will be unable to resist snarking at you. XD

things i learned today:

solas could've avoided this whole mess and probably had enough free time to take lavellan on a nice little date if he just took up archdemon hunting instead of all the rituals and the other dastardly deeds

lucanis won't romance rook if they go to minrathous but will romance neve because despite saying he's cool, he's not cool

everyone's nice and no one has slaves or anything because *checks forearm* the blight

all your companions get along with you and each other because also the blight

even though he's like, really manipulative and uses people all the time, solas accumulated but then gave up an entire army's worth of spies and agents because he decided he wasn't ready for a management position

red lyrium isn't really around because—and you are not gonna believe this—the blight

solas just lies. all the time, outright, to everyone. so I guess he was actually only super careful to not ever actively lie in Inquisition as like a fun little challenge to himself

tying the veil to his life force (you know, the guy who couldn't even take down an archdemon on his own and actually just got his ass beat so is not in great shape in the best ending) fully repaired the veil! \o/ don't ask how you wouldn't understand it it's not a big—

everyone near minrathous is cured of the blight! but @ everyone else you may be entitled to compensation 🥀

the only ritual solas has ever gotten or will ever get right is cleansing the idol into the ritual dagger. good thing too bc it was way more dangerous than this one. other than that, wrong about everything ever

"veilguard is dark!!" they say and then their only examples are dmetas crossing, ghilannain, the blight, and the final battle gore. like girl? dark is going down into the deep roads and encountering a mad woman reciting a poem about watching her fellow dwarves be eaten and fed flesh and forcibly mutated into broodmothers. dark is learning the keeper zathrian's son was tortured to death & his daughter raped before she took her own life in shame and so he bound a spirit to a wolf to slaughter the humans responsible and infect more with lycanthropy in vengeance. dark is being told the only way for you and the love of your life to survive the battle with the archdemon is to make him impregnate your companion so the fetus can absorb the archdemon's soul(and lets not even get into how this can actually be alistair's first ever sexual experience if you DONT romance him). dark is returning to orzammar and learning your best friend could not escape fate like you did and so he becomes just another dead duster. having your entire family murdered before your very eyes and yet you must keep living. being kidnapped and nearly assaulted & killed and having to fight your way out of a mansion full of humans on your wedding day. coming face to face with the missing friend that got sucked into an eluvian and came out twisted and wrong. dark is watching duncan speak calmly and clearly even as he coldly slaughters the coward that refuses to drink from the goblet of darkspawn blood. veilguard is literally dragon age for babies. shut up

Which leaves the emblem of the Inquisiton... the symbol that is so similar to the Seekers. Cassandra Pentaghast. The one who truly was the heart of the Inquisition, and the one who started it all. 🥹 I'm sobbbiiing that the design team gave that to her!
