it’s amazing to me that after years people still find my lore posts and my shitposts and like/reblog them. like it’s a trip. also kinda amazing. and there’s even those who send me messages to rp with me and I appreciate all of you guys and your perseverance even if I haven’t posted in years and even though I’m probably not coming back to this blog. Feanor has been an amazing character to rp but I can’t do so anymore in a sustainable way 24/7. the voice is strong and intensely draining and takes me so much focus, which I don’t have quite anymore.
I have zero idea how many people from the heydays are still around and active and will read this but I’ve had an incredible time rping here and I also made amazing friends and started relationships that are still going strong many years later. it’s really been a blast, even if I’m not picking up the blog again.
anyway that’s to say I actually do log in occasionally and if someone wants to keep in touch they can message me for my discord.
as always, don’t kill anything without me.

DAY 02: favorite portrayals of a character in another fandom
Someone who will always stand out for me is @shieldarmed because Katie really made Éowyn her own and gave me a deeper appreciation of the character and her complex inner workings than Tolkien had ever been able to.
The same holds true for @tofindthesun‘s Legolas. He was among my favorite characters when I discovered Lord of the Rings and then kind of vanished into obscurity for me. Rediscovering him through Krissy a few years ago has been nothing but delightful. Like Katie does with Éowyn, Krissy fleshed a multifaceted, memorable portrayal out of Legolas’ canon writing.
Then there is @curufinwefeanaro because Gaia will never not awe me with her insight into one of Tolkien’s arguably most intricate and complicated characters. Feanor is someone who commands respect even through the layers of fiction and reading, and Gaia manages to wrangle the character’s authority into her writing of him.

RPC POSITIVITY: DAY 1 + 2 MASHED TOGETHER BECAUSE I AM MULTI AF
I write in tons of fandoms here, so it would only seem like a good thing to mash together day 1 and 2 of RPC POSITIVITY WEEK, which is a lovely project and I encourage you all to participate as a way for us role players to show that this community hasn’t gone downhill entirely, to show that we can still be friends and create stories together, regardless of the fandom we belong to.
Anyway, this is a day for canon muses writers. My dudes, you rock! Like taking up a canon muse and adding up your own interpretations, making them alive, sometimes even adding more depth to them than canon writers did. You are all amazing.
I will try to sort it out by fandoms I write in. Some of the people named here are my friends. Others I haven’t talked to or we scarcely talk, but I love you all nonetheless. If I forget someone, please forgive me! There’s so many of you here and my brain is a slippery slope sometimes. So, let’s try to get this party going.

Like I always see lots of commentary about this passage and some of it resurfaced on my dash, so I felt like logging in to add soemthing. A lot of the conversation revolves around Fëanor, Indis, with a dash of Fingolfin thrown in, but I think the one (1) thing this quote actually and solely sheds some light on is Finwë himself. Honestly, in my opinion there’s really nothing else to talk about.
Not only it’s him speaking in first person (basically coloring anything in here with his own bias and feelings --- though I don’t even think such feelings are all that mistaken) but it’s also a quote that is opened by a dichotomy and ends with one. Finwë begins with talking about his two wives (also highlighting how terribly cultural the concept of marriage is, and not at all “biological” like some dogmatic readings of LaCE would like us to believe), his love for his two wives, how one doesn’t diminish another. Then he proceeds to talk about his sons (it’s worth pointing out that Ingoldo at this stage is Fingolfin and not Finarfin), which I think is a really easy parallel: the way he talks about his wives here might easily be applied to the way he may well talk about his sons.
But what I think is really relevant and remarkable is how Finwë himself divides his own identity in two. He says his role is divided in the eyes of Indis, sure, but the fact that he’s talking about himself shows a huge level of self-awareness. He’s likely talking with the benefit of hindsight here, but whether this self-awareness came after death or not, it still points out that, when looking at his past actions and self, he can see how he was two different people for different members of his family. Indis may miss the man she loved and married and who was father of Fingolfin, but the man who said nothing when Fëanor threatened Fingolfin and afterwards chose to follow Fëanor in exile and renounced to his crown until exile was revoked, she cannot possibly miss that man too.
Problem is, Finwë is and always has been both, and he’s been pulled apart by a dichotomy for a long time, whether that was his wives, his children, his two families. The only thing I can legitimately read in that quote is Finwë acknowledging his role in the family feud. Perhaps not acknowledging what he could have done differently or whether there was a chance to do it differently to begin with, but acknowledging the part he played in the whole thing.
If this says anything about Indis’ feelings on Fëanor, well, he threatened to kill Fingolfin, I don’t think there’s any reason why she should feel that charitable after that.
Hmm, trouble in paradise? “[Ingoldo’s] father she may miss; but not the father of Feanaro!”
Morgoth’s Ring 249
#lore.#meta.#Finwë was to him both father and mother and there was a double bond of love upon them.#finwe

“[...] and the deeds that we shall do shall be the matter of song until the last days of Arda.” And the doom of Fëanor was true-spoken also.

the funny thing about having played this guy for so long is that at this point I almost don’t even care anymore if people have differing headcanons about his character. Most of the time I just ignore the post/fic and move on. The one exception (*) that still riles me up is also the dumbest one, aka my headcanon about the heights of the three brothers: Fëanor and Fingolfin are the same height and Finarfin is taller than the two of them. I cannot escape that. My reaction to anything else is consistently like “you’re wrong”. I am cursed.
(*) with the exception of the general idea that Fëanor was overall an abusive/toxic/bad parent to his sons throughout their life always. When that specific headcanon is brought up I am, and always have been, willing to fight.
#ooc.#[idk why I gotta pick out THAT thing out of everything#but at this point I'm almost amused#also forgive me the radio silence I am under exams]

I've seen a post about the glowiest glowy pigment available, and it gives me so many Fëanor vibes. It's called "Lit" and it's sold by CultureHustle. It charges with light AND heat, glows in ambient light instead of only shining in absolute darkness, and has an afterglow of up to 12 hours. I imagine Fëanor would find out about things that naturally glow in the dark and research a way to make them more potent somehow, and come up with something like this.
anon, this is beautiful and I approve. I mean, paintings with afterglow in Valinor? ever-shining mural decorations and frescoes? I’m sold.
also if anyone wants to buy it for like £10.

another year has flown by —— and whilst i can’t say that it’s been an easy one, it has most certainly been a fun one. i’ve been writing amaterasu for about 6+ years now, which means i’m slowly but surely becoming an old maid but ! that won’t stop me from having fun and continuing to write essays about everyone’s favourite divine doggo. this journey wouldn’t nearly be as memorable without you all. i want you all to know that wherever i am in the next few years, know that i’ll always be rooting for you and your future endeavours.
this year has been a year of growth for me, i’ve officially dinged at adulthood and am at the budding stages of my career. it’s been emotionally draining, it’s been a constant stage of fatigue and sleep deprivation but it’s been worth it at the end, knowing that i have come out of that tunnel. remember if you have a heavy heart today it will heal in time. things will get better, i promise you that.
you are all so creative and talented. don’t ever forget that. every one of my mutuals and followers have been a part of this experience and i want to take the time to truly appreciate you all. i’ve made a lot of friends in 2017 and i hope we can all move forward together through 2018 and onward. thank you so very much and i love you all 💖

A headcanon I’m totally cribbing from DA:O lore is that Lake Saroni has its own plethora of legends and little folktales attached to it. A favorite with children involves the one about Master Feanor, the smith of Arthur Eld’s court and, as legend would have it, an elf.
When Arthur Eld needed a hauberk made that would keep away even the strongest weapons of his enemies, Master Feanor traveled to Kingstown-upon-the-lake where he rented a work-shoppe just outside of town, and each night he would go down to the lake, dip a bowl into the water, and carry it back to his shoppe. The king’s magis would appear to him in a mirror and speak words of power over the bowl, transforming water into steel more malleable than any other, and yet sturdier as well. Out of each bowl of water, Feanor formed one ring of metal. Each night, he wove the ring into the shirt that slowly started to come together –– ring by ring.
Thousands of rings meant thousands of nights. The people of Kingstown carried on with their daily lives around Feanor, and he blended into the background –– sleeping by day, working by night –– so much so that they forgot he was there. Only on a sleepless night they would hear him: When the wind blew softly and the lake was quiet, the hammering from Feanor’s shoppe resounded in the nighty lull of the town.
Time passed, and yet did not; some versions of the tale say that the world moved on again during the long years of Feanor’s work; but in the end, ka is a wheel, its one purpose to turn – and in the end, it always comes back to the place where it started.
Feanor returned to court with the finished hauberk, showing signs of age at last: after long, long years in which his elven blood kept him immortal, his skin had started to sag and wrinkle, his hair had receded and turned gray. But he found the Eld, and indeed the entire court, untouched by age; and when he asked the king how long he had been gone, Arthur said it had been nine days and nights, no more. He wore the hauberk to the rest of his days.
