Quietly, he followed her through the extravagant halls of the academy, bustling with loud and rich students -- even though class was currently in session.

I guess rich kids do what they want. I should keep my grades high if I want to stay here...

Attempting to make conversation during the walk, Megumi spoke up.

        “... How long have you been attending this school, Miss?”

based around the aftermath of this ask because i am deeply in love with how angsty it turned out.

⦓🔮⦔⇀⇀ “Come on, Megumi. Just call her and apologise and offer to do something in repayment.”

The curse-giver sat in his room, phone in hand, thumb poised over the “dial” button, Asa’s contact on the screen. It wasn’t that hard to at least just leave a message if she didn’t answer. But what if she did? What if she was angry? What if she didn’t want to talk to Megumi anymore because of what he did?

The events were foggy in his memory. He remembered a messy kitchen and yelling something at Asa... Something horrible. He wouldn’t be surprised if she didn’t forgive him.

But he had to at least try, right? Easier to hear first-hand that Asa no longer wanted to be around him than spend several months wondering in vain.

Without further thought, Megumi pressed “CALL” and put the phone to his ear, waiting for Asa to send it to voicemail or pick up. He didn’t know which he wanted to happen.

⦓🔮⦔⇀⇀ It wasn’t the first time that Megumi had a meltdown like this, but it was the first time that it was happening in front of Asa.

Megumi didn’t even seem aware of the existence of the world around him. His hands shook, blood staining his ragged fingernails from being dug into his palms. The kitchen lay a mess of broken glass and fallen plates, curtains torn from the wall, and papers scribbled with writings that had been torn from his notebook and discarded on the floor. Megumi stood in the center of the mess, hair askew, still as a statue – aside from the intense trembling of his entire body, as if the room was cold. In reality, the room was almost stiflingly hot.

He heard footsteps approaching. Familiar, light, hesitating. A voice – Asa’s voice, detached and soft. He couldn’t hear what she was saying, but it only caused the rage and sadness to boil over even more. Why was he angry? Why was he sad? He couldn’t pinpoint one specific factor. It felt like something had built up over time, and with no way to release it… He’d been reduced to an explosive state.

Moments after the words halted, Megumi wheeled around and threw the empty book cover in his hand at full force. “Shut up! Stop talking!” he yelled, voice cracking from the strain. He never raised his voice, and now that he was, it hurt. It scratched his throat and left it sore.

“Get out! Get out now!”

In the back of his mind, the only bit of reason that could escape murmured, Please, don’t go. I love you so much. Don’t leave.

“I hate you! Leave me alone! Go! J-just… Just go! I don’t want to see you anymore!”
