anyway just a reminder for the myth lovers out there
king arthur was welsh. merlin was welsh. camelot was in wales. the lady and the lake she pops out of; welsh. excalibur; magic inanimate welsh object. etc.
on the way to see family, i drive past a lake that in which is welsh legend, is the last resting place of excalibur.
i’m just saying in my experience a lot of these legends had been so anglo-fied in the past and its like, all this cool shit is celtic welsh legend.

December 13 - St. Lucia’s Day
Hi guys! Could you even imagine my initial plan was to post something everyday of December? I’m literally drowning in studying. I have to hand in a paper before tomorrow night and I still have to write about 3000 words. Anyway, Happy St. Lucia’s Day!
youtube
Today is Saint Lucy’s day in Scandinavia! The fest is also known as ‘Lucia Day’ or ‘the feast of Saint Lucy’ and in Swedish simply as ‘Lucia’. This day, the Swedes celebrate the light in the dark days of winter. Lucia was an ancient mythical figure with an abiding role as bearer of light in the dark Swedish winters.
The video and song are by youtuber Jonna Jinton, a swedish photographer and artist living in Grundtjärn. She makes videos about living in a remote part of Sweden, old Swedish songs and travel vlogs. Most of her videos are Swedish with English subtitles available. All credit goes to her.

Natten går tunga fjät runt gård och stuva.
Kring jord som sol'n förlät, skuggorna ruva.
Drömmar med vingesus under oss sia,
tänd dina vita ljus, Sankta Lucia.
Trollsejd och mörkermakt ljust du betvingar,
signade lågors vakt skydd åt oss bringar.
Drömmar med vingesus, under oss sia,
tänd dina vita ljus, Sankta Lucia.
Stjärnor som leda oss, vägen att finna,
bli dina klara bloss, fagra prästinna.
//Drömmar med vingesus, under oss sia,
tänd dina vita ljus, Sankta Lucia.//
Night walks with a heavy step
Round yard and house,
As the sun departs from earth,
Shadows are brooding.
Dreams of wings rustling over us in prophesy,
Light your white candles, Saint Lucia.
Spells and dark powers, with light you subject.
Guard of the blessed flames, protection for us brings.
Dreams of wings rustling over us in prophesy,
Light your white candles, Saint Lucia.
Stars that lead us, the way to find,
become your clear flares, fair priestess.
Dreams of wings rustling over us in prophesy,
Light your white candles, Saint Lucia.

Bedridden witch: Ocean edition
For the bedridden witches who hear the call of the seas.
Burn sea/beach scented candles.
Listen to background sounds like waves or the wind.
Make macrame strands that have glass beads or sea glass in them.
SEA. SALT. Just keep a jar of sea salt around for any of your needs and to feel connected!
Make a simple salt water spray to cleanse your space.
Create an altar/shelf dedicated to the sea.
Keep beach and ocean themed pictures, paintings and postcards around your room.
Make a sand garden.
Hold a glass of water on your hands, and focus on how the water is/has been connected to the ocean.
Create a sideblog for all your ocean needs. Can double as an altar!
Keep a collection of sea shells and invest in a shell field guide!
Watch ocean documentaries.
Keep crystals like opal, quartz, selenite, blue calcite, ocean jasper, and labradorite around.
Create a bottle filled with things that remind you of the ocean. Here’s mine.
Write/read poetry about the sea.
I really like using ocean waves as a way to clear my mind when I need to calm down/start meditating. Use meditation to connect to the ocean!
Hang flowing curtains from the ceiling - light turquoise and white.
Learn about the lore and mythology related around the ocean.
Whisper sweet nothing towards the sea - it doesn’t matter how far away it is!
The moon phases directly interact with the ocean. Keep track of them!
Draw sigils designed to connect you to the ocean.
Get a little fish tank (only if this feels manageable to you of course!) and keep it in your room.
Do seashell divination
Decorate with beach/seaside decor - rustic wood, shells, blown glass, etc.
Connect with any deities of the ocean/sea (for me that includes Amphitrite, Poseidon and Ceto).
Make/wear seashell or pearl jewelry.
Listen to music that makes you feel like you’re standing in front of the ocean.
When it’s windy or downpour rain, allow it to take you to the sea. Feel the raw energy. Open the window a crack if you can!
This is a great resource for some sea witching ideas!

Northern Spirits: RAN
Origin: Norse
Rán, a primordial Norse sea spirit lives in a golden hall in the deepest depths of the sea where those who drown spend eternity. Rán is not a benevolent sea goddess, although she is allegedly a wonderful hostess. She is a death goddess, blamed for shipwrecks, drownings, and disappearances at sea. Rán’s signature possession is a special fishing net, which she uses to catch ships and drag them down to her home. (Loki borrowed Rán’s net to capture Andvari.) Rán casts her net to fish for permanent guests at her luxurious hall. Once upon a time, Rán was allegedly offered human sacrifices. She was fed, so she wouldn’t serve herself. Saxon pirates tithed to Rán, allegedly casting one in ten captives overboard in hopes of ensuring safe passage. Rán and her husband, Aegir, are the proud parents of nine daughters who manifest as beautiful women and as waves. Sometimes they help their mom capture ships. Rán’s hall on the ocean floor is among the Norse realms of death. She receives those who drown, whether or not she is responsible for their deaths. Aegis, Lord of the Sea, is her husband and brother. They are primordial spirits, older than the Norse pantheon. They predate and defy classification and thus are neither Aesir nor Vanir, although they socialize with both. Rán is an oracular spirit. It is safer to request her assistance on land. Iconography: Despite her fierce reputation, Rán is often visualized as being very beautiful. Her portrait on a 2004 Faeroe Island postage stamp depicts her as a sexy sea goddess clad in nothing but her net.
Attribute:Net
Element: Water
Sacred site: The seven seas; in Old Norse kennings (wordplay), Rán’s Road is another name for the sea.
