i like how this one turned out the best. but, as much as i love the colours, i'm not sure about settling on them.

so, i'm a noob when it comes to colour (this is probably not news to anyone who has seen my art/followed this blog), and i've only really been experimenting and getting into the game recently, things finally clicking and all that.
anyways, all this to say i wanna talk about the paints i mixed for mergo's skin in those most recent images.
i had colours from 2 different paint brands: a sky-turquoise-y blue blob stuck to a palette i have yet to fully use up, and some peachy and warm oranges from a chalky-ish palette set with rad colours i just got in december. together, they made a greenish slop that looked neat, but looks neater on the paper i used, because the paints didn't fully mix:

there's shifting and layering there and it's beautiful and i love it!
it doesn't look like the greenish paint i mixed, but instead looks like... steely dusty cold corroded metal-y-ness.
(oh and you can also see other paint and marker and pencil crayon splorch-testings there too)
#art is a process#boy howdy is it ever#look... i put all my artist-self-taught points into anatomy linework#perspective all that stuff#i'm only now really evening out my stat-allocation alright?#i would have liked to go darker with the various mergo sketches#but i'd worked the paper too much already and i forced myself to stop touching things

experimenting with watercolours and pencil crayons.
first head is how i normally approach colouring my art. pencil sketch, watercolours, get frustrated with waiting for paint to dry, forget about it until later and layer a little more paint in hair, then finish up with pencil crayons on top for detailing, emphasis, and colour variance.
second head i decided to use pencil crayons instead for the face, building up lightly with minimal pencil markings showing through. then the hair (+ eyebrows) are undetailed watercolour wash with in a slightly shifted more stylized shade than her standard orangey hair colour.
third head i was going over in just watercolours and lost track of what i was doing.

artfight attack for TheNerdCommander ( @thenerdcommander ) on artfight. His character Danaelwen.
i just think she's neat ouo
started with pencil, watercolours, pencil crayons, lots of regret and frustration at my lack of colour knowledge. then went in to fiddle with lighting levels in photoshop, and also add my blog's name. I'm still not completely satisfied with it, buuuuuut I think that's the perfectionism and impatience talking.

the worst part of not drawing for a while is re-training your muscles and mind to work together as well as they used to.
it's like riding a bike: your brain remembers but your body completely forgets.
